Yes, you'll get to see more of their story later. Is there any way too see the Callaway and Lavender thing to a close? I explored the future and saw their resting place so I was confused.

As much as I'd like to replay IX one day, I dare not wipe my file which has all the DLC quest downloaded on it.
You can backup save files through several different means.
Taking a half day break from DQVII today. Trying not to burn myself out too much.
Yeah, I've ruined some games for myself by doing that! Definitely won't be continuing at this rate. After Alltrades I'll hit the brakes and just casually grind jobs for a while!
I'm an unemployed loser who has the luxury of being able to play ten hours a day, so don't judge by me. Even within the last few pages, we've had other newcomers posting their "time to first battle" and people are generally good at tagging spoilers, so I hope you won't get discouraged and quit a great game before it really begins.I barely played over the weekend, I feel like the discussion in this thread has already passed me by.
I only just reached the first battle.

The sidekicks do have finite HP, but yeah it's brutal.Huh, they changed the first unwinnable fight I think. The sidekicks no longer seem finite HP and the main guy uses desperate attacks immediately instead of when he is alone. I guess they wanted to make sure people knew you couldn't win.

I've spent the morning doing some backtracking for Mini Medals I missed, which others may have missed also - Emberdale (Present):and Alltrades Abbey (Past):Button Exchange for the little boy beside the ChurchYou don't want to have to backtrack on that second one, it is a pain in the rear, so read it if you're at the point where something happened in the Abbey that let you down.Examine behind the Northeast Grave in the Graveyard in the Cliffside Town halfway back to the Abbey.
Every other Medal has been in a Location You're Going To Look (Barrel, Pot, Chest, Dresser, etcetera), those two I missed out on for some reason and was checking against a list from the PSOne version.

Are you familiar with the concept of tsundere?I adore Maribel as I'm reading her party chats. Thought she was annoying at first but immediately warmed up to her, if you dont read the party chats you miss out on a lot of her charm.
Does she like the MC? She treats the dude like total trash but at the same time gives off this feeling like she depends on him.
Use Medicinal Herbs/Salvation Stone/Staff of Salvation to heal and MP for Offensive Spells if you want to go that way.how do you prevent dazzle ?
Unwinnable fights because of this. Wasted 4 hours trying that shitty boss fight.
I just end up using offensive magic or items that cast spells (maybe some abilities may ignore dazzle but definitely not before classes open up). I haven't yet found any equipment, magic, or abilities to prevent or cure dazzle status.how do you prevent dazzle ?

Sorry if this has already been asked but am I the only one who feels their Hero is leveling up kind of slow? Last night I completed Bally Molloy (what a wonderful and beautifully melancholy little story) and after defeating Crabble Rouser Kiefer and Maribel leveled up to 9 but my hero is still at level 8 and Nintendo's quick start guide recommended being at level 10 before leaving the tower, guess I'm not grinding enough? Plus after beating the tower the monsters all disappeared so guess I'll have to level up at the start of the next mission.
He does start leveling slower. But they aren't steady. I had ruff at 6-7 or so iirc and then suddenly he was within a couple levels of everyone.

Please help me with the dazzle situation.
Tired of redoing the shitty dungeon over and over.
It's the dungeon of descent. Eustace and Fingers are with me.
They're useless.
Pls halp.
Not yet, is it good? I still have 4-6 on my to do listHave you played IX? It's pretty similar, maybe even more depressing.
Really? Been having so much fun that I'm planning on replaying VIII after this, maybe I'll add IX to that list too.
(Vague Statement) Well...Kiefer might be one of my favorite DQ characters. He felt like the actual protagonist of the game and I got pissed when he left the group. But finding his tomb immediately after was heartbreaking. I hope there is a twist and that he is not dead.
Is therelike is the PS1 version? Wondering how I should set my party up if so.a point of no return until you complete the Egypt area
That section is way longer than it needs to be in my opinion. Good luck and make use of the salvation rock or whatever the hell it's called to get free heals.Well here's my problem.
Little Spoiler for the abbey regarding why I can't win.
My abilities have been taken away so I'm just a glorified punching bag.
I can't heal enough, I can't do any damage, and it's been going on for 4 hours.
:/
Some classes are slower than others.
There's info here for the JP version, (try google translate) column 4 has the cumulative battles needed to reach each level... for example Thief :
So you need 80 battles to master Mage but only 69 to do Thief.
Edit: and Sailor takes 83 battles.
Unfortunately the rates have been changed since the PS1 version so you can't use those. Most of the basic classes have had their requirements cut in half.
Oh, so leveling a job is only dependent on the number of battles and not related to exp? So I could cheese the system by going to a starting area and just blast through the low level enemies?
Yes and no. It's entirely dependent on battles won, but areas have level caps, so after your character reaches that certain level you won't gain class exp there any more. The slime forest tablet has a cap of 20, so if your characters are under 20 - which they very likely are if you're around the abbey part of the story - you could grind classes there for almost as long as you like since slimes only give 2exp each.
Haven't got nearly as far as some of you. Man the draw distance and pop up in the overworld is straight up shit in this game.
Finally got some time in last night. I am only a few hours in and just did the green crystal thing. I asked this a long time ago, but is there any point where I can possibly miss anything? Or will I always be able to go and collect everything in the world?
E: Oh and I have to say, I love that I can grind one handed. The L-button being an action button is amazingly useful.
I haven't really been able to fully enjoy a jrpg for a very long time now. The two last times I tried this was with Ni no kuni & Bravely Default. I played them for a couple of hours at first but then got tired and lost interest. I think it is often due to the not so engaging gameplay mechanics, and not so much an issue with the story.
I haven't really played a Dragon Quest game before, as I guess Heroes does not count, but everyone here seems to praise them highly. So I am wondering if it would be worth giving this game a chance in hope that it won't end like the others, or if I should just admit to myself that jrpg's might not be my thing anymore (used to love the old FF games on SNES & PS1)?
Oh yeah, that sucks. I stocked up on medicinal herbs (plus a ygg leaf in case) and just played defense and healing, taking shots when I could with whoever was free to do so. It also helps to have the boomerang (since you have a chance to hit maybe one of them when dazzled) and the wizard's rod if you played the matching game at the casino.Well here's my problem.

DQ is more about story than gameplay mechanics. You have to keep that in mind. You might be better off with something like SMT:Nocturne.
But then again the FF series had lousy gameplay mechanics (everything is very easy and doesn't require much strategy) and you say you loved them.
