Thanks, Drago. It's been a few days and I haven't seen a red response to that thread, so I don't know. I know it'd take some time to address, since they'd have to patch it in the JP version and in the US version, but I'm not even sure if this is the best way to communicate these issues with Atlus.
I don't speak a word of Spanish but I know lucre. It shares roots with "lucrative."
"Filthy lucre" has been in use in the English language for centuries, mostly by rogues and ruffians but in the last century it's been used by and about capitalists. The phrase persists not because of any Spanish meaning but because lucre is a Latin word and "filthy lucre" itself is right out of the King James version of the Bible. That's not to say that rogues, ruffians, and capitalists are religious-- the former, at least, enjoy a sense of style and irony.
Awesome explanation, thanks! The more you know. I googled "lucre" and got the general gist of it, but your explanation is perfect. It fits Rainie like a glove, so half-sardonic.
And yeah, perhaps my initial wording was confusing, it's me who is Spanish. Not helped by the fact that, indeed, the word comes from latin (which Spanish is derived from); we have similar words, including "lucro", which pretty much means "profit" (often used in "sin ánimo de lucro", which just means "non-profit"). ,
Should I take that as a sign that my written English is good enough to pass for a native now?
(if only my spoken English was nearly on that level...).
Also, damn, I hope your ban is a short one.
Still, I love when Rannie says "filthy lucre". It fits well with the character and the setting, and he just sounds so excited as he exclaims it. It's one of the few times where a character will continue to say the same thing repeatedly and I still smile every time.
Yeah, ever since I "got" it, it's just so awesome and in-character.
I was juggling several threads and at first I though this was an actual, original, unrelated game, and my first instinct was "I need this game". It's still awesome, and I'd buy that version in a heartbeat. I'm a sucker for pixel art.
I feel like I don't quite "get" Sorceress. My girlfriend is constantly doing most of the work as an Amazon, and unless I've using a lightning wand for jump + hold circle I feel like I'm not really pulling my weight.
I'm still in the middle of Normal, but I killed all the female vampires with ease, using a lightning wand, with square x5, then up + circle. The square hits refill almost all of the mana you use with up + circle, and the entire thing stunlocks them in a combo. it's also pretty useful for other enemies. I think the magic users are intended to be most effective up close, unintuitively enough, by mixing square and circle attacks. It's much faster than holding square.
I have, when I got a hacked item in my inventory after burying some bones.
Which reminds me, I figured out a way to safely get rid of a hacked player's bones without risking a crash (since most of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, see this post:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=75866003&postcount=4409).
Obviously you should save before attempting this, and NEVER save if you have a hacked item already in your inventory. Basically, you can change the equipped bag of the bones before you bury them. This means that if you were guaranteed a drop of a hacked item, changing the bag means a completely separate chance of even getting an item, and a separate set of items to have a chance of dropping. So if you had a set of bones that dropped a hacked item after every file reload, you can change to a bag that has no hacked items. If for some reason every single bag has hacked items, just switch to any other bag, and chances are you won't get a drop at all.
If you happen to get a hacked item drop, DO NOT access your inventory, just quit out of the game and reload your file immediately.
Obviously they still need to patch this somehow to get rid of this problem altogether. And if you happen to save with a hacked item in your inventory you are probably screwed at the moment. But at least there is something of a fix for my specific situation. If anyone else runs into this issue, at least there is an option to resolve it.
OK, this is awesome. This needs to be added to the OP as soon as possible. Thanks a lot for the tip! Now I won't be paranoid to pick up bones online.
I'd also want to add that the "upload to server" function might also work as a safer backup in case something goes horribly wrong. I'm assuming this function is available to everyone, not justPS+ subscribers (I got myself a 3-month subscription recently) since it's the only way to get your save data from PS3 to Vita, right?
