Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Been reading this thread here and there, so I figured I'd post at last.

Completed the game on Normal yesterday and now I'm on NG+.

My main is an Assassin and my pawn is Fighter.

I just started BBI today and got up to the eye boss, who is posing quite a challenge. I'm on level 50, and was wondering if I'm too low level to even bother advancing or do I have a chance to beat it? Any tactics?

And regarding this Ur-dragon? Where can I find it and will I be able to beat it with my current status?

Also, there's been something bugging me since I beat Grigori. When you get to the open area at the end to fight him, he had FULL HEALTH (as I expected). But here's the problem: It literally took me less than a minute (around 40 seconds) to beat him, as in all health completely gone. Is this normal? I mean, I was only on Level 39 at the time, and my highest pawn was Level 40.
You can definitely get through it on those levels, assuming you fight the enemies and continue to gain levels rather than running from everything. I took my old DD save starting at lvl 50~ and made it through till the end on hard mode so its definitely doable.

For the eye boss - this one annoyed me quite a bit to begin with, I personally ignore the tentacles and leap from the upper ledge towards the eye itself, you should easily be able to grab the upper eyelid (make sure it's facing you first). Scale down the creature a short way until you're in front of its iris then unleash hell. It'll get upset and close its eye ever now and then, nudging you off the prime position, so just reposition yourself once this happens. If it starts casting its super spell you can run back the top of the stairs and hide behind the pillar and wait for it to finish casting, it can't hit you there. The other alternative is to hang around underneath it until it summons a larger tentacle, which will knock the main eyeball out of the sky, however you will have to fight off a large number of small tentacles while you wait it out, whereas climbing on the eye itself ensures that nothing can reach you.

And as mentioned above, Ur-Dragon shortcut is on the beach in Cassardis.

Use the knowledge chairs every so often and your secondary inclination will not randomly change.

I've never used Nexus for any pawn, but most say it sucks.
And it's kinda terrible when comboed with a Pioneer pawn and presumably any with wandering tendencies, as there seems to be a solid chance that Nexus pawn will wander off with that pawn and leave you alone. Not the greatest idea in BBI given the trap chests.

So far I'm enjoying bbi more than what I've seen from everfall. The atmosphere is more towards dark souls. All the corpses and blood and that chained pinhead cyclops are awesome.

Also forgot to mention, I got a Trophy Jacket and Trophy Bracers last night. Goddamn that armor looks awesome. Threw on a Linen Shirt underneath it, a Farewell Cloak, White Hawk's Leggings and Fine Over-Knee Boots. Looks boss as fuck.

It also has higher defense than Golden Lion stuff, gives you a ton of bonus effects (restores Stamina per kill, debilitation time lowered) and magic attack power, so I'd wager a Magick Archer would love it.

Alpha didn't you see my post earlier, I have that dagger for you:p

(also I just found trophy boots, they look neat indeed, the extra carry weight bonus is nice too as is the sleep resist)

BBI story time!

Like my brother, I went in solo at about level 45, sword Assassin (unlike my bro who rolls dagger). Whomped the first area pretty easy with Griffith's sword and the ol' Dire Gouge; a lot of mobs on BBI are in-between large and normal, so the beauty is you can do full damage Clairvoyance AND climb em' for Dire Gouge.

So I own the Gazer, get to the second zone and boom, first damn thing is an Elder Ogre. Here we go, I'm thinking. Start fighting the guy, climb up for Dire Gouge and he tries to backdrop me. I jump off and over the edge, nearly into the drink but I grab the ledge. Stupid ogre tries to nip up and dropkick me...and goes over the side. Thanks for the free levels, Mr. Ogre.

I get down to the Fighter/MK combo after owning the pawn army with Clairvoyance, Fighter (predictably) Blink Strikes. Clairvoyance puts him on his ass and a Full Moon Slash seals it. Unlucky for the MK, my brother's been here so I know to chuck a Throwblast and repeat until dead (seriously guys, carry Throwblast/Dragon's Spit).

Get to the dragon/bishop at about 52. Throw a Shattered Earth Tome to one-shot Mr. Dragon, and unload Blast Arrows into the bishop. He's on two bars when he possesses the damn dragon. Then, I proceed to run my ass off from two tornadoes, High Exequys and lightning, using Clairvoyance to stuff the melee attacks. Finally the split and I finish off the bishop surrounded by black wind and lightning. My shiny new Carnation I found in the room before Dragon Forges, so no Everfall farming.

Hit the third zone solo before even hitting 60, feels good man.

Okay, I've spent the past couple of days trying to get the stupid Fortress of Remembrance macabre statue with strigois. I'm really frustrated and slowly losing my mind.

Not only do you have to clear out enemies each time you restart, you have to make sure you don't get hit off the edge of the bridge and that you don't get too close to the tower (otherwise the strigoi will poof back to its spawn point). When you actually do manage to grab on, you have to pray you did so close enough to the tower. You can't jump off and levitate--you have to wait until the precise moment you lose your grip, otherwise you will let go too early (and be stuck in falling animation) or let go too late (where levitating won't be high enough to reach).

I'm about to see if double jump works better than levitation because it's been borderline impossible attempting it my way. The person who wrote on the wiki that it may only take "several tries" is either a god, full of it, or wasn't using a sorc.

If you haven't killed the boss of BBI yet and are interested in eventually collecting all 30 statues in one go, please grab a harpy and get the stupid macabre statue on top of the tower your first time through. No one deserves this hell. Stupid fuckers are giving me Cliff Racer flashbacks.

EDIT: THE MOMENT I COMPLAIN, I GET IT TO WORK

What are the odds for the bait bringing in a carrion feeding monster? I've tried twice now trying to something to show up but nothing happens. :(

You actually use the consumable items? you'll have to give me some tips on how to use those properly, as well as some advice on how to skill swords and how to play it.

The skill descriptions are never very good

Also damn I need to stop changing my pawns, searched for ages to find the ones with the right spells and then they ALL had guardian, 20 in a row...

Okay, someone just send me a Moonshimmer Pelt. I cannot get those saurian sages to ever show up. I need to max my Dragon Glaze until I get Revenant Wail. I can trade something if I have it.

I can make a forgery and send it to you. Just give me 15 minutes because I'm not playing right now.

For the vast majority of the game, yes, you'll barely notice the spike in difficulty unless you're playing a squishy class like mage or sorcerer. If you you're playing a class with a shield you may never notice any difference.

That said, even if you started over you'd only have that difficulty sweet-spot until about lv.25, so it's up to you if you want to scrap all your progress for something so fleeting. I think it's worth it, personally.

Worth it in regards to what? Starting over fresh on hard, or doing NG+ on hard?

Also, does the very fact that it's NG+ increase difficulty? I ask that because what did you guys playing vanilla dragon's dogma do when there wasn't a hard mode. NG+ all over again on normal mode? How boring was that...

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
All I get is total shit from BBI drops. Like jesus christ. Am I going to have to actually play as fucking Fighter to manipulate the damn drops to some sword skills and sword drops? There is only so many times I can get a fucking staff drop because I play as Mystic Knight or staff skill rings before I lose my mind.

Daimon down once, havent killed Death yet, havent faced any super drakes and so forth.

I can see it being a bit of a grind to do any more of the stuff in the game, and not sure if I can be arsed. I enjoyed it, but it dials shit up to SUPER-CHEAP a little too often towards the end.

Fucking cunt of a drake, stop fleeing. I've had a drake fly away on me three times in the past hour, every fucking time I had whittled it's hp down to two bars. Thanks to the trees and the camera, I have no idea where it goes.

It practically disappears and it's fucking pissing me off

I actually just got a Doom Blade with my Ranger Arisen and got the Shield for Mystic Knight earlier today. Also got the Warrior weapon. I can't seem to get my bow though. Got the Strider and Mystic Archer bow though. Daimon is where I get the weapon and armor drops (the Bitterblack Isle set of 13).

Killed the Super EvilEye. And now facing an Undead Dragon and it seems like I can't get enough damage on him. Lifebar is barely moving. Welp, better off to Everfall I guess.

I have a sneaking suspicion that BBI scales to the highest level pawn in your party to a degree. Yesterday I was blowing through it now I'm not doing any damage and I have Milky in my party today mean while yesterday I didn't.

That or everything changed once I hit level 103

Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm not playing right now either.

You don't need to play as Fighter to get sword drops. You can continue playing as a Mystic Knight.

Save before you "request purification", change vocation to fighter or warrior (arisen and pawn) and then request purification.

Caxton would punch you back.

He'd sell your teeth back to you and you'd thank him for it.
He seems to be one of the only two NPCs that is
completely nonplussed that half the city fell out right in front of their eyes, the other NPC likely being "special" with how often he waxes on about man being a "truly marvelous creature".
I don't think I'd want to fuck with him, he'd have probably been the Arisen if the dragon bothered to stop at the capital first instead of some fishing village.

I have just used Dragon's Dogma and Dragon's Faith the whole game, other than when I switch to Assassin occasionally and use a Stalwart Bow and Dragon's Roost. All I get is blue shit over and over again. I don't understand.

Next time I purify, will change to Fighter then on both me and my mage pawn. Shit just seems to skew towards her and goddam SHE HAS THAT STUFF ALREADY.

I don't get it, I have a lvl2 armor item and no matter what I always get the same piece.
If my pawn and me are ranger or scather or assassin or any combination it's ALWAYS the trophy jacket, if we are fighter or war it's ALWAYS the sabatons.

Are those the only 2 parts you can get from lv. 2 armors? I want the chestpiece for plate and any other part for leather.

I also have 2 lv1 armor pieces and they always give patterned gamberson no matter what.

Yeah bro, Throwblasts are awesome. They destroy anything skeletal with extreme prejudice, and can be used when you get possessed by a specter monster. Run against a wall while possessed, then throw the item at the wall and it will more often than not OHKO them. No magic required.

My brother and I play solo runs most often so we had to find some inventive ways to get past certain things. XD

I'll try them out, throwblasts etc weigh a lot so I've always just put them in my stash.

Those spectres annoy the shit out of me my pawns take forever to kill them, 'ill carry some to kill them then.

........... well fuck. That's a great idea. Yoink.

Still waiting for any hellfire gear to drop. You need to be warrior/fighter for that stuff to pop correct? I keep getting Grave gear bs and I realize now that while my pawn is swimming with the brine while i'm doing Daimon runs perhaps the game is still counting that when I purify my gear? Frustrating.

I would like some clarification on what vocations pop what armor tho .. if someone could repost or PM a list that would be much appreciated.

And ... somehow... i've run out of rift crystals. I had like.. almost 2 mil when i started BBI. I ... kind of don't know what to think. Perhaps i play this game too much :p

No, I've gotten the Hellfire body piece, the boots and mantle so far.

Worth it to start over entirely on hard to experience the perfectly balanced difficulty, but that's just me.

And no, NG+ doesn't increase difficulty in the slightest. I've never understood the point of it outside opening up the Ur-Dragon rift stone in Cassardis. I never completed a NG+ playthrough, I just restarted over and over again. Might be fun if you decide to do a solo run on NG+ or something.

Some armor drops are not affected by vocation changes, and the sequence with which you receive your items will never change. For example if I have 5 lvl 3 armors and i purify them as a mage/mage I might get armors in this sequence:
grave veil
carrion greaves
hellfire cloak
grave veil
grave mantle

However if I used strider/strider it will give me these in sequence as well:
hood of shadow
boots of oblivion
hellfire cloak
hood of shadow
coat of shadow

So lets say you've already collected hood of shadow and carrion greaves but not grave veil and boots of oblivion, set to mage/mage, purify 1 lvl 3 armor, then set to strider/strider and purify another item to get them. The sequence of items will never change.

In addition, lets say your friend wants you to gift a lvl 3 cursed armor out of the 5 that you have. The item that you lose is the last out of the five, meaning the grave mantle/coat of shadow in this case. But your friend will not get the same item, because he also has a fixed sequence of armors that he can get from purification. Also, when you obtain the next lvl 3 armor and purify that, you will receive the item that you "lost" through gifting.
Why can't I get a Revenant Wail? Shouldn't I get that being a Ranger? Or does it need to be a different color drop?

And thanks again.

Setting the arisen and pawn as strider/strider or ranger/ranger or any combination of both can give either the blackwing bow, revenant wail or darkening storm. Just keep farming for lvl 3 weapons and eventually you will get it.

Yeah , I figured it out, you are locked to a certain item when it drops , you can change the class by changing vocation but for each vocation the drop is fixed the moment it drops.
Bummer, so many doubles.

At least I found a 1000str 2h sword

Anyone know how many days you need to sleep in grand soren to get BBI chests to spawn? 7 or 1 or?

Found a lvl 106 sorc pawn with 3000 magic attack, perfect inclinations and great spell setup as well as augments :D score, gona stick with this one I'll never luck out like this again. It's always guardians

Btw how do you fight death... I mean fighting him is (pathetically) dull and easy, but he kills my pawns:( I hate having to rehire them every time I meet him

Update time - here is where I last left off

So I respawn back at Gran Soren. Lo and behold - the escort is still following me around.

I decide that my pawns are underleveled (a few levels behind me now) and my gear is rubbish. I still need cash for the Magic Bow though... So I head to the Pawn Guild.
Speak to the main dude before heading to the stone - he tells me something weird's happening in Everfall(?) and I should go investigate. I check the stone, grab a fighter and a strider my level and head down.

Easy at first - bats, spiders etc. Walking through it. Check the levers on the staircase and work out the doors a bit. Undead and stuff start appearing - slightly more difficult but easy enough.

Get to the bottom - investigate the light and tentacles everywhere. I start fighting and ignoring my pawns (who are telling me that it's neverending). I die twice. I respawn again, fight for a bit - and then decide that I'm over being one-shotted by spells - and start to run. Tentacles everywhere. I'm bashing the 'come' command to keep my pawns close - only stopping to fight small tentacles and skeletons.

I forget that I have locked the doors in front of me - I run back for the lever. My escort gets trapped behind the newly closed gate... I consider going back for him - a tentacle grabs him by the head and starts chewing/throwing him.

Nope.jpg

Run back to the doors and get out.
I'll never forget you - but you got what you deserved for writing the original job board ad that got me horribly, horribly ambushed.

Do I need to release a pawn for the owner to get rift crystals or will it accumulate as I play and every time the person rests, they'll get what they've accumlated with me?

I have 50 dollars on PSN and was thinking about buying this game. If I like RPGs and I loved Demon Souls will I like Dragons Dogma? I never played the first one. Its between this game and Ni No Kuni
