Is it just me, or is easy kill/masterful kill supposed to be this crazy good? Really easy to pull off and does very good damage. I really need more stamina but I don't want to give up assassin for ranger!

Is there anything else to do with rift crystals other than rent pawns and buy from that guy at the encampment? He doesn't seem to sell anything useful other than cosmetic goods.

Purify cursed items. It's quite expensive. One lvl 3 cursed item costs from 25 to 28k RC to purify.

Lol I just bought this game and I have no idea what anyone in here is talking about. Any tips for beginners? I started as a Warrior, good choice?

Considering you can't start as a warrior, that's a pretty baller choice! Jump on a wiki and read some of the basics, at the very least about pawn behavior and the stats/leveling up system. The rest is just enjoy a great game.

If your pawn ends up a guardian, fix that. Check out the wiki how to do it.

Other than that, no tips! I personally think the game is a LOT more fun when you don't know what to expect. Oh how I remember that first time I ran into a group of bandits when I bought the game...

You mean you started as a fighter. Warrior is an advanced class that you can get later. Fighter is the safest choice for a beginner.
Tips:
- Make your pawn as visually attractive as you can if you want people to hire HER. Everybody hires female pawns.
- Keep your eyes open, lots of secrets everywhere in the game.
- Save manually often, never EVER rely on the autosave.
- There is no shame in running away from combat.

That's really all you will need to not break your experience with too much info.

Anyone have any suggestions on what the best way to grab lvl. 3 weapon items is? Is it to do Daimon runs or...? I would say I'm still too weak to be able to tackle his second form in any good way :(

Daimon is the only creature that drops lvl 3 cursed weapons. His chest is also the only chest that drops lvl 3 cursed weapons. If you still can't do it, get someone to gift you a cursed weapon. I could do so if you're on xbl.

As somebody totally new to this game, it's fucking hard. Those bandits! Any advice for a low level Strider?

I think I bit off more than I can chew by accepting some random escort mission from Gran Soren. The dude wants to be delivered way out in the middle of nowhere and it gets dark way too fast.

Yeah, I stopped last night since I do Jack and Shit damage on his second form. Can kill his first in like a minute though.

I may try to swith my Assassin to Ranger and load up on blast arrows and use tenfold shots going by what people have said so far in this thread.

Wow lucky you, death is the one guy I haven't been able to kill, is he immune to most magick damage or something? My holy magick cannon literally doesn't phase him.

I shot him like three times with mighty bend and got a ton of experience. Downside is I couldn't loot him.

Jump a lot. Dodge. Striders have bad defenses, and it won't get any better later so you gotta start dodging a lot. A fighter or a warrior pawn would make your life a lot easier, though I don't really know how it would be with a mage pawn since I've never tried it.

Bandits are generally really hard, the warrior and fighter bandits can one shot you for a long time.

avoid the long escort quests if you feel too weak. you can avoid some bandits by traveling at night.

Thanks for the advice guys, my pawn is a Mage that I'm trying to teach to heal me more often. I might try to cancel this quest and hope it comes up again.

I've killed him as a MA with ninefold bolt and as a sorc with holy focused bolt/grand seism.

Maybe I'll try other vocations just for the sake of trying to beat him with all of them.

edit: ah shit dp, my bad.

Death is weak to fire, not holy.

Well that's hilariously not intuitive at all. But when I say phased by holy cannon I mean he literally takes no damage, does he have 100% immunity to that? I don't think my cannon is necessarily weak either I have like close to 2800 combined stats before casting it.

I can damage him considerably using holy focused bolt, my magick is about 3000. So yeah I guess he's not immune. However when I switch to fire spells I can wreck him pretty quick, he still calls it quits and leaves after 1 health bar is lost though.

After getting messed up with the games poor checkpoint save system, I basically save after each fight. Might do it less if I know I'm moving through a weakling area.

Makes me wish the manual save was not so cumbersome and slow.
On the xbox you can quick save by pressing start to pause, then the back button to save. I suppose the ps3 is the same?

Decided to take the 45/45 sorcerer and assassin level route for magic archer.
So decided to change vocation to Assassin daggers are quiet cool :p

Mao is this true about female pawns? That would explain why mine never gets hired:(
My pawn has nice inclinations and as fighter he does his job well so I figure he'd get hired more often.

Also how do you accomodate a ranger party in your group? Without mage you waste of lot of consumables, without sorc you lack damage on certain enemies and his affinities and voidspell come in handy, without fighter or warrior you simply don't have a tank (unless you're playing one yourself)

As magic archer, strider, or assassin it seems I have no room for one

I don't know if it's hilarious or pathetic. WAY too many little girls. I opted for male though, I don't want a hulking warrior woman following me everywhere, big black guy is a lot more fun lol

He has not been rented a single time.

My male warrior was only rented once at level 25 :(

Well I get why people want female pawns in vanilla (to not have to deal with the robes in the bandit camp) ,but in post game a male fighter pawn seems like the better choice because ogres go after males in post game. I have lots of lvl 2 armor and a few weapon items to purifybut too RC starved to do it

Also random but did you know that the skyward slash or w/e it's called (idk the exact name the one that throws them into the air) warriors have actually works on the annihilators?

And that the skewer ability fromfighters (again don't know the name:p ) works on the big geo saurians.

Greatsword oneshotting any skeletons is funny as well but totally useless in BBI since skellies aren't a threat anyhow

Also the exp to skillpoints ratio is broken in BBI... I've gone from level 88 or so to 115 playing warrior to get the lvl 9 augment and am still only level 7 :\ Would it take long to get rank 9 if I do the wall thing in grand soren?

@ mao what class do you suggest is best for farming death? Do blast arrows work on him? I want to farm him a few times at the bloodless stockades before I finish the game

It's all well and good until you rent the female pawn that has the chipmunk voice. You think that you've learned to block out most of the incessant chatter and then that comes along...

Using a Magick Archer with Explosive Volley (need the skill ring) you can stunlock Death to take off much more than one bar.

Load him up with 2-3 volleys and detonate them -- they can be tricky to hit sometimes, as he floats just out of reach quite often -- when they blow, he'll fall to the ground. Fire and detonate 2-3 more volleys and he'll keep falling to the ground. As long as you can hit the bolts and don't run out of stamina, you can take him out quickly.

I would think so. How often do you seem male pawns wandering around in gran soren?
I spent a lot of time optimizing my pawn's looks instead of functionality back in vanilla, she's been hired a grand total of 118 times.
Also check out the gran soren times, http://game.capcom.co.jp/DD/en/top/ 8 out of 10 screenshots uploaded are of female pawns.

I've tried it, but I couldn't get my warrior pawns to smack him to detonate before death instakills them. You detonate them yourself? I couldn't jump high enough in the areas I've fought him, gonna have to try this again.

Brute force.

My team consists in 1 Assassin, 2 Rangers and 1 Strider, all with good Str and Def. A Strider or a Ranger can be a tank (my main pawn have 1200 def).

So far i've killed 48 times Daimon and 19 times Death, and never felt the need to have a Mage or Warrior in the group.

I feel bad for making a female pawn now, but I modeled her mostly on my roommate, so she's a petite mage. Unfortunately I picked the worst voice, she sounds like a child, hopefully that can be corrected later in the game before somebody hires her.

Do consider the fact that most of the players don't know something like that in advance, though. 90 percent* of players didn't think "oh now that one thing will be easier" when they created a woman pawn, they thought "fuck yes, now I'll have a loyal loli fuckbuddy following me around like a little puppy!"

Talking about puppies, I wish I could have a pet in addition to the pawns.

*percentage very accurate

I think you can buy a potion that allows you to change everything about your pawn from the guy at the encampment

95% of the time Death wipes out all my pawns, so yeah, I'm all by my lonesome. :(

Thanks. Managed to kill the second form just a short while ago, and got one lvl. 3 weapon item. My Magick Archer does jack damage to him; thankfully the pawns I've hired help out tremendously.

And a big shout-out to Dave1988 who is a scholar and gentleman; he has donated tons of lvl. 3 weapon items! Very, very appreciated.

And as I wrote that last post someone hired my (now strider) pawn for115k RC

I only made him strider yesterday while I rank up warrior, perhaps striders get hired more easily than fighters

He only gave me 3 stars :(

It's funny you mention that because ever since I reclassed my pawn from Warrior to Fighter his overall utility has gone up insanely high, he does so much damage now and I removed all shield skills from his arsenal so he is constantly chopping away without remorse.

But ever since then he hasn't been hired a single time ;_;

He probably didn't get a chance to rate your pawn, 3 stars is the default if your pawn dies.

They could be server generated pawns, you can check out your history and see if there's a gamertag/psn id attached to it.

Just finished A Fortress Besieged and i'm about to hit 25. I think I went one quest ahead on the main chain. Didn't know when i had a list of quests, they were in order.

Had a little difficulty with the fortress, but it's all good now. Managed to save up and get some good gear at last too.

So far i'm really loving this game. Normally i like my games to be a bit more narrative driven. But i'm just digging the atmosphere, gameplay and pawn system so much, so it's all good.

Has anyone tried this for purification (once you only need a few more pieces and don't want to waste rc)

Say I have 6 lv2 weapons
I purify all 6, swap vocations, purify, swap vocations, purify again just to see what I'd get
Say it turns out the 4th item as mage vocation gives me the item I want, the others give me shit I already have

Now instead of wasting 30k RC on the first 3 items, what if I discard 3 of them?
Would it discard the first 3?

Actually I think I'll try this out right now

edit: no that didn't work, it just purified the first ones instead of the last ones

Are these games playable without relying on the pawn system? I don't want to micromanage, I just want to go on an adventure.

What I mean is, can I just get by with the default pawns or however this game introduces them or do I have to constantly swap around, make mine available to level up when I'm offline etc?
fwiw, your pawn does not level up when you're off line. They gain knowledge of foes and areas but not actual leveling-up experience points.

Going sorc on my pawn for fun, a sorc with 4000 hp and 800 def lol, pretty funny, only 1600 magic attack with the lv.2 staff though, I guess i need to make my main sorc and dragonforge it

Swapping all my gear and augs takes so long:(
They should have just let pawn gear be dragonforged too (not hired pawns), save a lot of inconvenience

Any opinions on Magic Archer VS. Ranger?

I kinda liked that the MA had the lock-on feature.. but Ranger does seem to make more damage..

How do those choices fare in the late game? I'm around level 40..

I just saw this Mage pawn i used to hire a lot back in vanilla. His owner has gotten him up to 180... But he has no abilities assigned. Why would you do that? :(
