Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

1: After 2.0 the shortcuts stay open.
2: farm and Rare-up. Your defense will improve as you lvl as well.
3:what lvl are you? If you are a MA ; you should be playing back and firing ric all day long.

In my car-forgive the typos.

I'm 89 at the moment. Even though I try to stay away, they can run up to me, knock me down and then begin the QTE, followed by my death. There even were like 6+ of them at the same place in the Fallen City...obviously I ran on rooftops and GTFO of there ^^;

What did you mean by "firing ric all day long" ? Ricochet Hunter perhaps (even though the room is large)?

I just noticed something silly with the AI (something new anyway). A hired pawn just shouted "take my lightning" when casting an Ice Affinity.

I recently got this game. I just got to the point where I got three pawns, and I've completed the training. I went out to explore and almost instantly got my arse kicked fighting some bandits. I have no idea what I could have done different. I play as a strider and have two mages and one fighter in my party. One of the bandits in particular was especially powerful, I did almost no damage to him while he killed all my pawns in two or three hits. Is there any penalty to waking them up when they fall? In any case, I died. Then I fought some wolves and I did defeat them although just barely. Am I doing something wrong? There's no way to dodge or defend. My bow is ridiculously weak, and my daggers feel pretty weak too. I'm in the first area yet it feels like every enemy is ten levels higher. I'm clueless right now. What a strange game this is. Also, you can't lock onto enemies. Many times it feels as if I'm hitting air. Right as I'm about to slash my enemies, they just run away and attack my pawn.

Any tips?

So I was just fighting online Ur-Dragon. It had very little health, very close to death. If not for it flying away, I could have easily killed it.

Anyway, it flew away, then I exited the chamber and immediately returned.... and then

"You have been rewarded for the Ur-Dragon's defeat"

WHAT. THE. FUCK. IS THIS?

Whatever happened to the half hour grace period?

There must have been literally no time between somebody scoring a killing blow on the Ur-Dragon and a new gen spawning.

All I want to do is dragonforge some equipment that I haven't upgraded because they require mystery materials. Ugh

Yes, Ricochet.
Do you have a maxed MA bow?
Also consider slow-walking them (Eliminator).
Keep your pawns with you and fire one standard shot to draw them to you one at a time.
Lastly try popping four Solomon's before you engage (will boost your ric significantly).

What's your pawn setup?

Help?

Run there is no shame.

I really hate how screwy the spawns get after the first run of BBI. The harpy --> strigoi change made getting that one macabre statue a bitch, but we also shouldn't have to start a brand new game again for some silver/gold upgrades just because we forgot to dupe mats like Moonshimmer Pelts. :(

If anyone could float one of those my way on PSN, I'd be very happy. If you'd like something in return, just ask, and I'll see if I can send it, too.

You're not doing anything wrong. Youre at the beginning of one of the best (not perfect) RPGs of all time.

Regarding Tips: fight and level up
Complete missions for extra exp.

- Weapons and armor are a big deal. If you got the dark arisen version there will be included DLC weapon and armor sets at the BlackCat merchant.

Also checkout the DD wiki page for weapon dental.

Finished my first runthrough of BBI - a pretty fair challenge all-around. I look forward to the second runthrough.

Question: what am I missing now that I beat Daimon? Since enemies change will some materials be lost to me forever?

Greywolf those bandits are the one hard enemy type this early in the game, if you can't take them just run past them and continue on ,you won't meet other such hard enemies on your quests for a while.

There is no need to grind or level up in this game, just follow the story, do sidequests (don't grind out board quests you'll complete them naturally! ) and play as you like.
Now and then there will be an enemy out of your league, but they are always optional and you'll kill lots of those enemies later on.

Anyone with a decent ranger or sorc pawn (sorc pawn with fast spells only:p ) between lvl 120-170 want to get hired? i'm lvl 150 atm so if you are lower you won't get RC, but I can gift you a lv.3 weapon if you like.

On that topic: it really sucks that you can't give people rc if they are lower lvl... that's when they actually need it in BBi :\

Beat the main story, doing that... falling through holes forever bit. Pretty cool - except I entered a room with two uber Chimera, a pack of uber direwolves and a lich. Was bad news bears for me. Also, I feel like I didn't get all that much loot from killing the dragon. Got a wicked set of daggers and a bow, but dat it.

I'm looking at getting a new spellcasting pawn, and thinking about upgrading to sorcerer - mage is great for healing and all, but the heals aren't all THAT essential, and I feel like I am missing out!

Well, I thought I'd head back to the town, and now I got a new quest to enter a well. I do so... and die. The enemies in there are impossible as well. It sucks how there's no way to dodge or block. I also don't seem to have any main quest right now, however I've been told to head to the pier at night to travel to that island (which I think is new to Dark Arisen). Aren't you supposed to go there later, or should I head there now? Anyway, am I really not doing anything wrong? It just seems so strange that they give me quests that I have no chance of completing and place dangerous foes in the very first area.

As a fighter you block with L1/LB(?) and as a strider when you hold R1/RB(?) you can press X/A in order to roll. I'm assuming LB and RB are the skill buttons, but if those aren't the default or you switched them then just assume the opposite or whatever.

I didn't really have trouble in that well, but definitely don't go to the Dark Arisen area - it'll be a challenge at level 50.

Make sure you have quality pawns, that's the best advice right now. If you're having trouble early on, having two really good pawns can completely change your pacing.

Nope, there's no way for me to roll. When I hold RB I can do a special attack by pressing X and jump by pressing A. I can't roll by holding LB either.

So where do I go then? Haha, it seems like I'll die no matter where I go. This feels really old-school. As for pawns, I don't really have much to choose between. I'm level 7 and have very little RC. I can only pick the weakest ones.

The well quest is the first kick in your pants quest. You can beat, you just have to try. You can dodge..and block.. read the manual to check your controls.

This game holds no punches, it gives you quests that are "impossible" from the start. It's what I love about it.. it doesn't just throw endless puppy rescue quests at you.

I've read the manual. There's no way for me to dodge.

Ah, I meant you jumping out of the way of attacks/moving and raising your shield. You mean like a dodge roll. Yes, there is, but it's exclusive to rogue-like classes and unlocked. If you're a mage, you watch where you are and cast accordingly, if you're a fighter, you tank.

I forgot to mention it's a core skill you learn. I just made buying those a priority then noticed hey, I could roll!

It's a skill that you have to learn, but it requires you to level up your vocation a bit. Also, if you're having trouble when trying to venture off the beaten path, I'd recommend just following the main quest line for awhile. Nothing should be too difficult there.

I didn't complete the well-quest until I was level 11.

Thanks for the tips but I'm stuck already. I've only just started and this game is way harder than Dark Souls, haha. Guess I'll just try to train.

It's literally that one quest, and you can easily do it if you use everything to your advantage. Stay on the top of the cliff to fire down on them, or use the pillars to kite them, realize you have to cut off their tails to make them easier. Also, did you buy gear from the shops and did you hire 2 pawns?

Yes, Ricochet.

Nah, 3-star Blackwing Bow at the moment (magick stat @~1440).

But to be honest I'm more wanting of a quick Daimon 2.0 strategy right now, it's taking WAY too long with only single arrows each time >_< Got him to half-health in second form before stopping, it was really annoying and he changed tactics too.

My main pawn is Strider as of now, and I hired two high level mage and fighter. (To limit my XP rewards). They don't do sh*t to the boss though. I'm the only one chipping away at his HP. Only problem is I need to rely on people in my friends list in order to avoid paying RC.

Just a tip, that someone gave me earlier in the thread, about the quest in the well. Attack the tail of the lizards. They'll be a lot easier to kill.

Any class that uses daggers can roll to dodge (a skill you get at rank 5 or so?)
Any class with a shield can block
Sword and dagger classes also have counter attacks and backward dodges.

Those enemies in the well are saurians, listen to your pawns (if they figured it out yet), cut off their tail, it cripples them and does a lot of dmg to them.

On a different topic, I goldforged dragon's wail and got vehemence and clout equipped as well as a 65str+170 sta ring and a 35stagger power ring, but my str is only 2600 ish, is that as high as archers go?
My fighter has 2700 str and probably 3000+when his weap is upgraded, it just seems low.

Also tip: if you find ring of thrift in BBI you can unequip suasion ,it's the same effect but apparently doesn't stack, frees up one augment slot for the moneygrubby among you

What's up with the ninefold bolt, is it a level 1 or 2 gear? I've identified over 60 lvl 3 and all I ever get is Explosive Volley and the Immolation rings.

I've also seen every level 3 weapon at least six times each; except for ZERO Blackwing Bows.

Also, in case this wasn't already mentioned; cursed items themselves aren't actually composed of the 3-4 items that end up purified. They simply move you down a predetermined list. You can easily prove this by having two cursed items and then purifying them. Reload the game and destroy the first cursed item before it's purified. Now identify the one you have left. It will now be purified into what you initially saw the one you destroyed instead of what you saw as your second. That's also why often times when you gift someone a cursed item, they don't always end up with what you thought you sent them, even using the same class combinations. The list itself is what is randomized, not the items you pick up.

Greywolf here's some beginner's tips:
-level fighter to rank 5 and learn and equip the sinew augment, it gives you the ability to carry WAY more items
-NEVER let escort nps die, don't do the quest board escort quests if you don't think you can keep am alive, a dead npc never comes back and this can disable future quests
-if something is too hard to fight you can just run away:p it won't happen that often... bandits early on and maybe 2-3 enemies during the vanilla game
-don't make your pawn inclinations guardian (don't click "come" command often), it makes them fairly useless

Experiment, have fun, try different classes if you like, try out the different skills, don't chase any loot or exp carrot.

this thread has really slowed down the past 2 days btw, People finished it this fast?

I just got a message on psn from someone i don't know about my pawn, they don't know what gaf is, how on earth did they find my pawn (they are only lvl 32 ingame)

Moonshimmer Pelt sent.

And you should change your pawn's second inclination. ;)

Maybe some people played the game last year.

Yeah, I just noticed she somehow went back to guardian again. I don't know how that keeps happening. Will change it asap.

Thank you very much for the moonshimmer pelt!

A tip for beginners:

When Ser Maximillian gives you the first set of quests, go for the slate first, and leave the fortress last.

I chose to go reconquer that castle and was warmly greeted by
3 Cyclopses
. It was difficult for my lv17 mage.

On the other hand, with an informative pawn, the slate quest is a piece of cake.

Wish i could send you one of the extra 2 blackwings i found. Still haven't popped a single piece of hellfire. I'm almost done with my second set of sinner/betrayer gear.
I still need the assassin rings. Haven't seen any yet (i think for the explosive charge and gouge right? ..so lame. )

Maybe someone can clear this up for me: I have doubles of A LOT of stuff. Some of my shadow gear, Immortal gear, sinner, carion and grave... weapons like whoa ... I was under the impression that as long as i kept grinding along I would be moved along a loot list and get new stuff at a somewhat fair clip... so .. that's wrong.

I want that hellfire shit nao. Mysef as War and my pawn as a fighter ... weapons, sinner, 3 of the best shield you can get... it's getting a little tiresome.

edit: Also! I forget the users name atm but it's a gaffer and they used my girl for some serious spelunking and netted me a million RC by themselves.

I owe you - brave hero. I got made doubles of damn near everything... make a request!

Here is how to two minute both versions:
Team:MA, your man pawn(Strider) and two other Strider or Ranger.

Try to pick pawns with hundred/ thousands kiss

Step 1: equip each pawn with 10 all party strength tonics (forgot the name) from the wealthy merchant in Grand also pick up 20 Solomon's for magic and 10 of liquid stamina

Equip yourself with 12 Solomon's , 10 big health Tonics and 12 All Strength tonics. And 1 pilgrims for good measure.

Step 2:

If you opened up the second shortcut. Please note that you can run to Daimon's door in about 3 minutes. Don't stop for anything, check your map along the way and occasionally hit the down arrow pad to remind your party to "come" make sure to stop at rift stoned to save and revive your pawns health.
If you die(you shouldn't) you will start st you last rift stone save.

Step 3:
Daimon 2.0
After the first cut scene. Run and jump on Daimon. Immediately hit select and pop 4 all patty strength tonics. Proceed to 100 kiss him until his loses 2 and 1/3 health bars.
Run away from him. Call your party and pop 4 Solomon's. Daimon should be ready to his vortex of death move.
While he is in the act fire your homing shots until you stun him.
Once stunned RUN bake to him. Pop 4 more all strength tonics and the pilgrims. Press up on the direction pad to command your team to attack. 100kiss his butt. Congregation on a two minute beat down!

Do the same as above for the second form. Works like a charm.

*****Please keep watch of your stamina.

Damn, just downed an Armored Cyclops. Pain in the ass. :D

Also, the game feels really disjointed, progress wise. Find myself finishing a quest and then in the middle of nowhere wondering what to do next. Would be nice to have you main quest as the quest you always have and know where you need to be.

I tried to do an escort quest and encountered 2 Chimeras and 2 Cyclopses, so I gave up. Next up was Grimoire's tome. I found the book
the sneaky way
but on my way back I had to fight so many bandits that I just ran away.

This pretty much describes my experience with side quests. Being that difficult, I supposed that whatever was posted on the boards was also difficult and didn't bother. Should I go back?

OR (way easier:p)
-go ranger
-pop 4x str periapts
-shoot him in the head for 30seconds until he dies
-shoot the second form in the head or belly head for 1 minute until it dies, once it staggers (can be after 5seconds or after 40sec or anywhere in between) it takes massive dmg, keeps flinching and dies in seconds.
Once he staggers get in closer so your arrows do more dmg

No need for blast arrows or anything and no need for pawns to be anything than a distraction for the bosses' spells.
The last 5 hp bars of the boss usually go in 8-10seconds because he is staggered by then.

Yep, he switches between a couple of locations throughout, don't worry.

Whats the minimum level I should be before I attempt to go into BBI? Does it scale to my character or is it on a set difficulty from the jump?

GreyWolf try some new pawns, like 1 mage to heal and 2 tanks.
You can also buy gear in the first town, maybe try upgrading it.

Also you can go forward from the encampment to get the escort quest and do the well later.
