Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Just spent two hours trying to kill Daimons second form. Seems impossible. Got him down to two health bars but killed all my pawns with that stupid blue suck everyone in thing. I feel like I don't do any damage and need level 3 bitterblack weapons but they seem to only come from daimon so I'm at a loss

stacking 4x periapts makes your damage skyrocket.

t2 dragonforged weapon is plenty to kill him with. (I'm assuming you have either clouth (+20% str) or the magic equivalent augment... you should have been using that in BBI all along)

daimon tactics
When he does the suck in hit his head (be it with melee if you already climbed him or ranged otherwise) , that will stagger him and make him go inside his wings and you get 20+seconds of free dmg on him (good time to pop periapts)

Just learn his abilities and how to avoid them and try not to run out of consumables before he dies:p

Or if you want it easymode you go ranger and tenfold him with periapts as someone above said, that makes him unbelievably easy and he'll die in a minute or two though.
Just climbing on him as assassin/strider/warrior and wailing on him with 4x periapts works too tbh, it might take 2-3 tries to climb him without getting knocked off.

His big swipe with his ghost claws can be blocked btw (or rolled through), and when he gets fireballs around him he's gona do his bolide spell and you need to get far away until it's over.

Finally got this game. Only $30 new! I love accidentally walking into stores when sales are going on.

Time to stay up all night playing it.

EDIT: Does anyone have that list with the quest order or whatever? I remember seeing it when I popped in here a while back. Some of them are missable after certain points in the story or something?

This is the end...
Beautiful friend..
This is the end.....
My only friend,.......the end

I have walked away from Dragon's Dogma.
- No Trophies to be gained.. For I have the Plat (last year).
- No Battles to be fault... for I have defeated them all Daimon has died more times than I can count.. I have systematically destroyed two worms and three blue bastards (Death does not scare me).
- No Items to be gained... for I have ... SCRrrrrrATCH..Be-I-CTH
Actually.. I farmed the 3/6 Magic Bow ring for so long with out success that I'm completely ok with not having it,.... now.

I have given this game so much love (with out cheating through various products out there in the gaming netherworld) that I now can say that:

Dragon's Dogma is one of the top 5 best games of this generation.. If not Top Three.

I am now looking forward to:
1 - The Witcher 3
2 - Dark Souls 2
3 - Deep Down FTW!!!

So my characters aren't in rags anymore, so thought I'd post them. Lvl 27, and still have barely seen anything excep the outskirts of gran.

My Pawn

Is it just me or is Grand Fulmination the best Sorcerer spell ever? Totally helps my assassin arisen and fighter pawn destroy wraiths and living armors.

Just killed another ur Dragon lol. Used him to Dragon Forge a bunch of gear i got of my first online ur Dragon just in case I need to go mage or mystic Archer. I really should have df'd my trophy jacket though :(

It's kind of ridiculous how easy it is to dragonforge stuff just with the cursed dragons in BBI.

I've realized it's pointless to waste all the money and materials on doing 3 star upgrades now because even a 1 star upgraded item has a pretty good chance at being dragonforged against a cursed dragon... I usually only have to kill a couple before I get it.

I had been wasting millions of gold on 3-starring gear when I only had to spend less than 100k to 1-star an item and then go fight a dragon.

I got two Ur-Dragon kills earlier today as well. Really don't need the Ur-Dragon gear or dragon forge but the 20 wakestones is nice for gold I guess (I have 116 wakestones in my bank now).

That seems to happen, the game gives you one item over and over, more than anything else; for me, it was the Hellfire Gauntlets -- I've purified enough of those to outfit a Hecatonchires! :p

Ugh, Carrion Greaves is the only piece of Carrion I am missing, lol.

I'm just waiting on that to switch my fighter to a mage (or maybe Sorcerer?)

Hard to take good combat pics since all the effects get in the way, here's my current Arisen, didn't have much time to play! Still tweaking my pawn's appearance..

My pawn is rocking the same eyepatch! I need to get up higher level though. No one really in the 40s anymore.

I haven't played Dragon's Dogma in awhile but I decided to pick up Dark Arisen.

So far I'm aiming for making my Arisen a Fighter/Warrior/Assassin, and my pawn is a Strider/Ranger because I didn't want to make a pawn mage like everyone else. Is this all right to go with?

EDIT: Love all these extra goodies I'm getting for my old save!

Wow, I didn't realize so many people used my pawn. And so many 2 starts..... T_T

Found the 10th statue in the cage of the prisoner gorecyclops room. 20 left you say? Ugh.

I only ever found exactly 20 statues after multiple times through BBI, those last 10 must be really well hidden.

They are very well hidden. There's a walkthrough on the DD wiki if you want help.

One way to do it, is that since the statues you've already collected go into storage upon NG+, you can find 15 or so of the easy ones and then find them again in NG+.

Did you resize the original file? It's smaller than the 360's shots but details-wise it looks pretty good isn't it?

I find it a bit easier to go solo if I'm taking combat pics, no pawns casting stuff or the enemy focusing on them instead of you. Also I like to use weapons with self enchants, can get some nice effects during attacks and their glow will make the photo look brighter overall. Like so:

I am now on my second NG+ game.. Instead of completely rerolling, I changed my main characters (kept my pawn the same though) appearance and am going to max out more vocations. Man, playing as a fighter... I really miss the roll and double jump that the Strider/Assassin/MA classes have.

And just to be clear, this only happens in the beginning. The well quest and the quests that take you to that bandit area are really the only places that make you go "Wtf, is this right"? Everything after that (minus an escort or two) are pretty well balanced and appropriate. It doesn't maintain that level of difficulty (unfortunately).

It's not too much of a spoiler, but you don't necessarily have to fight them to complete that quest. Think like a bandit

Edit - a parkour bandit

Yeah I'm starting to get a better understanding of it. Found a club called the thousand threats or something last night?

its pretty awesome

i upgraded some of my gear too and now im mowing through those guys. Ha.

I attacked his hearts but no effect. Online? You mean it's easy to kill him in offline?
There's actually two Ur-Dragons. One is in the online mode: it's an impossible monster to kill in less than 20 minutes (when it will just fly away) and has a shared HP bar with every player in the world who tries to confront it. The catch is that the person who will land the final blow (it takes several days to die) will get amazing rewards. Those who contributed get very small rewards when the online dragon dies (they appear the first time you go into the antechamber of the dragon after he's dead).
The other one is the offline Dragon. It's doable solo, and will give you not that great rewards, but is enough for the achievement.

The battle strategy is the same in both scenarios: the dragon has many hearts under its skin that you can destroy climbing on it (except those on the wings, you'll have to shoot those). The hearts are glowing when you get near them, so you know where they are. When they break they go dark and then the dragon flash turns to white around the place where the heart was. Attacking that spot is useless from that moment on.

That's it. Pawns are basically useless in this fight, you might want to go solo and heal yourself with items.

Sounds like I'm doing something wrong. I'm level 44 and in the Everfall. I've cleared most of the levels, but I've lost track of which ones because some doors are now gated off and monsters just respawn down there anyway.

Now I come in here and I'm seeing people say I need to be level 100 or higher to effectively tackle the BBI stuff? That's fucking nonsense! I'll put the game away forever before I grind out another 60 levels in the Everfall. WTF?

Am I misunderstanding?

Yes. It's easier offline. It's much, much more difficult online.

Didn't knew. Big thanks for tips.

Here's some photos of my pawn and arisen

Is there no fast travel in this game?

There is. You'll get access to ferrystones when you reach Gran Soren and you'll get your first portcrystal soon after. You'll get more as you continue.

Man..how are you only at 44 and essentially at end game. I'm at 41 and only just met the duke lol. Either way, it's not like you have to grind in this game to level. Just killing shit in Everfall will probably level you easily. And BBI sounds like it can be tackled from 60 on.

Is there any way to make pawns not attack chained gore cyclopses? I'm currently surrounded by 3 Garms and rather than fight those, my pawns all decide to clamber up the cyclopses which currently don't pose a threat but will very, very soon.

EDIT: Wait wtf? Garms can regain health from anodyne? WTF?

While much of this is true, there are a few wrinkles to it, especially right now.

1. Once the dragon's killed it enters a "grace period" for about half an hour where it spawns at minimum health in everyone else's game, so all you need to do is hit each of the hearts. Pawns are actually really good at hitting these so long as they're magic/bow users, so definitely bring a few along if you know it's grace period.

2. For a week the Ur-Dragon is weaker, which means it's entering grace period rapidly. Search on the GameFaqs board or wherever to find out the current status.

I suspect those Garms you're talking about are regaining health from a Siren's song. Kill the siren.

Also, yeah, pawns make prisoner gorecyclopes the worst enemy in the game. When I have no pawns with me I can kill a prisoner gorecyclopes in 30 seconds. When I DO have pawns with me, it would take about 5 minutes...

I really think Capcom should make another expansion that allows us to explore the frontier lands. I always thought the frontier lands were a huge tease.

There is a loading screen that says the frontier lands hold far more powerful monsters. The frontier lands are labeled on the map, but when you try to go there there is just a huge gate, a boss monster will come out of it and then the gate will close behind it.

What the hell is that shit, Capcom? I want to go through that gate and explore the frontier lands.

They don't even need to put things in the Frontier lands, just use the entire shown corner from the ruins of aernst castle to blood water Beach. Seriously the whole place is empty. There is also a big monument thing with no purpose

Definitely don't need to be level 100 for BBI. I entered at 61 and just finished up around 71. I did have to run away from some of the enemies, though.

Thanks! I had no idea that could happen. Part of the problem was the room had two chained gorecyclopses, a bunch of sirens, three garms, and a TON of pawn sorcerers. If the sorcerers got a spell of it pretty much kills me in one hit.

I decided to just run past it to the exit. Would have been a bit more manageable if my pawns had not decided to forgo the laundry list of other enemies in the room and bum rush the freaking gorecyclopses.

In any case, difficulty calibration is all over the place, as always in this game. I can one shot most of the enemies in BBI effectively making some passages boring, then get oneshotted myself by semi-bosses and such enemies, it doesn't make sense. Nonetheless, it's amazing.

Yup, thought something might have changed while I was away from the game / I could have forgotten something :p
Yeah, the whole grace period thing changed it from something I never figured would happen for me to something I'd keep an eye on... then with this hunt I've got a PILE of Abyssinal gear. If the pace has reliably kept up I may go ahead and just dragon forge each set continously and sell the extras off.

Pawn sorcerers are the secret worst part of BBI, easily. Many of these enemies are tough as hell or absurd, but they're all balanced as your enemies, not using a spell balanced for the PARTY to use. Fucking Maelstrom.

Maelstrom I can deal with. Pawns get sucked into it and it can be a while before I get them out. I usually have Gale Harness and Showdown active when I enter in a room like that. I can run away from the tornado with relative ease, but what really fucks my toast is the damn Seism spells. Its area of effect is titanic and it always blindsides me. Maelstrom does suck in its own right though. Even at its least harmful it makes you turn from steel wielding badass to nurturing baby sitter in seconds.

I'm so damn salty right now.

Can you kill the sorcerers with a bow from the ledge above before going down into the room? It is possible their spells can hit you from there, but far less likely.

That's what I always did.

I really hope leveling up gets harder in the higher levels cause right now 2 chimeras and a cyclops level me up, and that's basically a stroll around soulflayer.

Daimon 2.0 + Veteran's Periapt = level up like crazy. If you maximize its use, you get something like 1.2mil xp per run, and at very high level it still means 2 to 3 levels.
