Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

The fuck with
Death
and the final boss removing your pawns from your party.
Can it be avoided? seeing as how my pawns are stupid enough to not avoid that attack. Its incredibly annoying.

Death not much. Daimon only does the vortex after a certain amount of health has been lost. You can either stay far away and attack if you have a ranged option, or jump on him and clobber his face.

I had him do it consistently around 4 1/2 bars off and less than one bar. I just run away and spam come to stay out of range.

Thanks. Seems like its goin to suck to go for a Death kill.

Maybe Im missing something but this DLC seems unballanced as fuck. I have the best vanilla DD weapons dragonforged and still I do little to 0 damage, and Im still not finding any weapon better than what I have.

Mind you is not that its hard, is more that all the new enemies are HP sponges. Its like trying to be Dark Souls and failing.

So I'm still in Everfall cleaning the place up. I've gotten through all the dungeons except the place with the Ur-Dragon and the one with two chimeras at the same time right at the start. I've also gotten plenty of Wakestones to give them to the lady.

Can someone explain what I'm supposed to be doing next? I guess I should try to beat the chamber with the Chimeras first. What about the Ur-Dragon? I don't really understand the concept of it. Can I beat it on my own? What if I give the Wakestones to the lady? Apparently that takes me to some boss character but can I return to Everfall after that? Can I beat the Ur-Dragon after giving the Wakestones?

Next destination should be bitterblack isle if you're playing dark arisen. If you hand in the wakestones the game will end after you beat the boss, and you would have to start a new game+.

Ur-Dragon is doable offline (it will be a version with less health), the online ur-dragon is server side, meaning all the damage from all the players fighting it will combine and will take a while to kill over several encounters.

Ok thanks. So I should not hand in the Wakestones unless I want to start NG+? Should I just go straight to Bitterblack?

Turning in the wakestones will send you on a one way trip to NG+. If you want to farm everfall, don't turn them in. Stuff from Bitterblack Isle will be better then everything from everfall though.
Offline Ur-Dragon can be killed like any other enemy in the game.
Online Ur-Dragon is much stronger though and it gets even stronger each time it is killed. The amount of health is calculated between all players that enter the arena and fight him. The current generation of Ur-Dragon (should be around gen 300) will take several days to bring it down. Once its health is down to zero it will enter a short "grace period" in which it can be killed. Players who enter the arena during this period and actually kill it will get special rewards.
You will have acess to Ur-Dragon in NG+ instantly through a riftstone at Kassadris beach.

Yea that's correct, like RIK said if you still want everfall access (for gears, or to farm easy wakestones), you shouldn't hand in the wakestones since it will take you to new game+.

I'm guessing I can still immediately get to BBI even when I start NG+? Do I kerp all my stuff as well?

You will keep everything except story related key items.
Access to BBI will be granted after the first few story missions (iirc when you can summon pawns).
I'd still try to beat the room with the 2 chimeras in everfall. It's a good preparation on what awaits you on BBI.

I actually just beat them. Offline Ur-Dragon is next.

Still wondering whether to start NG+?

What's your level? Just wondering since I'm nearly in the same situation as you.

I'd recommend a solid stock of wakestones before venturing into BBI. If my experience is anything to go by, you'll die pretty often.

Maybe I'm just out of practice, but some of the encounters are brutal. Monsters have a lot of HP, and there are plenty of insta-kill moves.

What determines the weapon you receive from cursed bbi loot? My pawn is a ranger and everything i ever purify is a ranger bow. I need a magick archer bow...

My hard mode from scratch with main pawn only playthrough made it to post game! Lvl 63....got destroyed by the very first goblin right out of cassardis though. Couldn't get very far in BBI at lvl 50, gonna try again soon. Here's Ragnos with pawn Odette, when I do make male characters I like to make them older and as large and intimidating as possible. Selene is tiny in comparison!

So wait, do they play that version in the Japanese version when you throw down with Daimon? That would be badass.

If so, wonder if it will change if you switch to Japanese voices in ours.

EDIT: Just noticed someone else named their pawn Odette. Guess they liked the pre-generated name as much as I did. Of course, my Odette is a little girl in an oversized robe, but yeah.

I really didn't feel like spending 10 minutes cranking my brain for a name and then I saw Odette. Beautiful name.

As a Magick Archer, should I use the Fraemae Blades or the Sapfire Daggers? The Fraemae Blades have a ridiculous amount of strength, but no magic gives me pause, and most of my dagger attacks are magic based.

I'd say Fraemae Blades.

One thing I learnt about BBI is that unlike the main game where you can get by with just Holy and Fire element, in BBI you can't just rely on one element, since there are quite a few enemies who have different weaknesses.

Personally as a Magic Archer, I'd use the daggers for conventional enemies and Magic Bow for enemies who are resistant to physical attacks (such as living armor and Eldar ogres).

I'm only level 35 or so (first time playing DD), playing a ranger to get my Stamina up, but I just did the 'Griffin's Bane' mission to Bluemoon Tower. Holy crap, when this game turns up the awesome it really works.
The final battle with the griffin on top of the tower, it's pitch black night, and only the lightning in the sky and the fire our magic is making are lighting the fight. Fucking amazing.
Loving the game.

Any tips to get Cursed Dragon horns? I've been farming them but no luck yet. Do I have to attack his head? Didnt seem to get anything with that but seeing how the bosses have huge HP...

Had to do a mission where I had to feed a Cyclops goblin corpses yet my pawns would just randomly turn on it and kill it, so got mission failed. Is it forever gone and have I locked myself out of content?

Also as Dark Arisen has introduced new port crystal locations making fast travel easier does anyone have a map of these locations?

Off the top of my head:
Dragonforged's lair
Shadowfort
Everfall

Just finally did this as well and it really was a great quest from beginning to end. The story quests have so much put into them, shame the side quests are much weaker. Although, having killed a bunch of griffins in the wild, this one wasn't much different. Was definitely the tower and atmosphere making it a great fight.

I'm in the catacombs and EVERY HIT proccs Holy's heal. No matter the foe, be it skeletons or spiders. Is there a reason to this or is it a bug?

Are some drakes strong against holy or something in bbi? I don't think I was doing much damage to this drake with a cursed light, my pawns did all the work

Though I was able to stun it by hitting its heart over and over, his hp just wasn't going down, lol, I don't think my stone forest did much either.

Edit: Switched to dragon's dogma and still doing poop damage, I guess my strength just sucks :(

There's also one at the top of Bluemoon Tower and apparently one in the area behind the witch's house in the Witchwood. This is one thing that makes me glad I'm playing DA and not vanilla, having the additional mobile portcrystals and the Eternal Ferrystone is really fucking convenient. Shame you can't buy the extra 5 until new game plus though.

While waiting for Fournival's trial I decided to try the drake in devilfire grove.. couple tries later and got him down. Was a good fight, though I didn't get anything dragonforged.

And people complain about a lack of fast travel in the game!

Right now I have 6 portcrystals set up around the world and fast travel like crazy..kinda boring. Though, if I could, I'd gladly ride an ox around. Or tame a griffin.

Yeah honestly I would recommend staying away from portcrystals to most people on their first time through. It would be even easier to recommend that if there was just a bit more variety in enemy types and placements, especially between Cassardis and Gran Soren, but I dunno just traveling everywhere via menu is boring and makes the world smaller.

And holy crap griffin taming sounds awesome! You could limit it in a couple ways, like requiring a consumable item to do it, and maybe adding in some risk reward, like having there be a small chance that an even bigger monster will drop down on you while you're flying around, knock you to the ground, and then you have to fight it. Maybe your buddy griffin will help. You could also use that to expand the world, maybe have some places only accessible by griffon or something.

Totally agree. I've been using my ferrystones to basically mop up quests in a few minutes. Takes the fun out of the exploration of the first hours of the game. Just now I had some unexplored area southwest of the drake's spot and had a blast clearing it out and taking a walk through the forest. Found the healing spring there..which I wish I had found earlier when doing escorts to the beach. But yeah, enemy variety is definitely the biggest weakness of this half of the game. I didn't realize that everything around the world would be goblins/wolves/bandits/harpies.

Is there any point to the DLC armour? I know DD:DA comes with all the previous DLC kits but nothing the Black Cat sells seems to be any good at all. Some of it *looks* cool but unless there's some form of transmogrification in the game I don't see the point in it at all.

Also, does Reynard occasionally go wandering between stops? I haven't finished his personal quest yet, he didnt die on an escort and yet he doesn't seem to be in any of the spawn locations. Hope he hasn't bugged as he was my intended romantic interest!

The armor in this game is weird. The upgrade in stats is very incremental and if you're comparing non-enhanced stuff with enhanced stuff it's harder to get a clear picture of what's really better. In the end I feel like it's all pointless till end game gear anyway.

And yes, Reynard moves around between Cassardis, Encampment, Gran Soren, Great Wall..and I think the camp by the Shadow Fortress.

ok here's a question: i tried to look up my friends pawn to gift it something, but its his first pawn from before he went NG+ and made a new pawn. I don't see his NG+ pawn. How do I find it to gift it something or will I only ever see the first pawn he made???

Yeah... until end game, don't worry about stats on gear, wear what you think looks best.

I'm done with the game. Lvl 136, platinum trophy, killed the Dark Arisen final boss a few times and pretty much maxed out my sorceress pawn. She has the most powerful archstaff upgraded to max, good equipment and so on. I could go on farming stuff for my character but it's very boring already thanks to the appraisal system for the cursed items. Oh well.

Feel free to add me if you want to use my pawn. My PSN id is Atolmspek.

Overall I've enjoyed the game tremendously. DD2 can't come soon enough. Very rough around the edges, but one of the hidden gems of 2012 for sure.

Yeah, that's what pushed me to beat it a second time and put it down for good (or at least a long while), should've skipped the speedrun so the end game could've gone like I wanted it to.

I'm kind of in this situation, have beaten the game once and have run through BBI dozens of times. Is there anything left in the game that's challenging? Is it worth it to play through the story again? I'm 1 shotting everything darn near

Well, the ending scene
on the beach your pawn washes up on
changes depending on your love interest, and this CAN be changed just before the ending, but I'm sure someone's compiled all the possibilities on Youtube or something, and I doubt many of the NPCs vary much, just characters who actually have some significance like Mercedes, Selene, Aelinore, etc.

Not really. Some of them look cool though, but stats wise, they are very mediocre.

Man I was getting slightly bored with MA until I got the self-immolation move. Now I feel like I have a reason to get in close as well.
