What vocation rank is that? I'm using a MA right now as well and I enjoy the various lock on abilities(and slightly useless torch spell) but my fully ranked Ranger did more damage(Great Gamble <3) and that longbow pull back was so good.
I noted earlier that I finally finished the game for the first time. I just wanted to remark that I had known about the ending (my enjoyment of games isn't much affected by spoilers), but the ending was still pretty freaking cool. One of the best of this gen that I've experienced.

It's either 8 or 9. I'm one or two from max rank..I think one. I think it's pretty well known that ranger outdamages everything lol. Still, I pretty much made max magic my goal and my MA does hit pretty hard. But I also believe MA doesn't get good gear till late game or even BBI. If it's weak to fire though, the self immolation spell pretty much devours them.

I'm done with the game. Lvl 136, platinum trophy, killed the Dark Arisen final boss a few times and pretty much maxed out my sorceress pawn. She has the most powerful archstaff upgraded to max, good equipment and so on. I could go on farming stuff for my character but it's very boring already thanks to the appraisal system for the cursed items. Oh well.
Feel free to add me if you want to use my pawn. My PSN id is Atolmspek.
Overall I've enjoyed the game tremendously. DD2 can't come soon enough. Very rough around the edges, but one of the hidden gems of 2012 for sure.
Right there with ya. I almost quit after I got the Plat (was right at Daimon 1.0) but pressed on - now a level 158 Assassin with Framae Blades and Darkening Storm (neither Gold Forged however) and I'm kicking the shit outta anything that moves. I've gotten to the point where I can almost completely solo BBI...
I have only two things left that I want to do with the game - gold rarify my weapons (couldn't care about my armor) and try the speedrun mode. I suspect I can do it in under 30 mins.
Outside of that....I'm done with it, which is sad because it's in my top 5 games this gen (almost top three) and it's the open world ARPG I've always wanted to play.
I hope....HOPE Deep Down (rumored to be DD2) or DD2 (if it isn't Deep Down) is shown at E3 in a couple of weeks.
Are there any good Warrior skills beside Corona? I find myself only using that exclusively. War Cry seems kinda pointless since I only play with my main pawn and the charge move take way too long. The sway is kinda decent, but pointless at the same time... why should I dodge do begin with? Not that I get much damage or fear knockdowns anyway. For now I'm going with lunge, since it seems decent against downed mini-bosses.
What is the go with the Dark Arisen content? I really quite enjoyed the base game, but I'm feeling a bit burnt out on it and I'm not feeling it so far.
Is it more of the same but a bit harder in which case I should bail out until later? Or does it open up to something I need to check out?

It's more of the same. BBI isn't that big - like 4 rooms and nothing but damage sponges...
That being said - I was in the exact same position and someone said this to me (and he was right) - you need to beat Daimon 1.0 once to get the BBI Level 3 gear/weapons/armor/novelties.
Once you get a good weapon the game becomes easier and less of a slugfest.
Overall though the extra content wasn't worth the 40$. It should have been DLC.

Pre BBI, I used Corona Slash / Indomitable Lunge / Arc of Deliverance.
For BBI, I found Pommel Bash and Indomitable Lunge/Lash more effective -- with the latter two upgraded with a Skill Band. Arc of Deliverance (even with a Skill Ring) took too long to charge and didn't do enough damage to be worth the wait.
To clarify: it's not literally 4 rooms. There's 3 stratums, each made up of the same 5 or so large areas with slight differences, and a unique area or two. Each stratum is longer than the the one before it.
I'm seeing a weird issue on PS3, and was wondering if anyone else has come across it.
I have two friends who recently bought Dark Arisen, and are able to see my pawn (and the pawns of other mutual friends) fine. However, neither I nor my other friends with Dark Arisen can see their pawns (despite us all being friends on PSN) either when searching for the pawns of friends, or searching for pawns by PSN name. They say they've been hiring our pawns but we don't get any indication of that either (e.g. rift crystals, messages, no entry in the list of pawns your main pawn knows, etc.).
Has anyone else experienced this? If I didn't know better I might guess that the pawn database was full and new pawns weren't being added to it properly...
As somebody who was brand new to the series, here are my end game impressions/thoughts:
* The pawn system worked well and I would like to see it return, perhaps with a bit more exact (optional) customisation of behaviour and personality or more options towards how you construct your party.
* The whole fast travel (or lack thereof) thing wasn't an issue at all. I always had plenty of ferrystones and often decided to walk anyway so that I could encounter something and level up my skills.
* Whilst walking around, the "random" encounters against a dangerous enemy or three always seemed to come at the worst/best time and were fun to try to survive.
* Having said that, what did get me plenty of times though was the save system. It never felt natural to stop and save my progress "just in case" and whilst getting attacked by a drake out of nowhere was fun, it was less fun having to walk all the way across the map again. I did this several times.
* Expanding on this, I see no reason why running needed to drain stamina outside of combat. I would hope that is something they fix up in future releases as it was a major pain to have to slow down and wait for no real reason.
* I thought the game was one line of quests short. At the end, I thought we were in for another set of missions from the character you are sent to, but the game just sends you off to the ending which seemed a little too short.
* The quests themselves were generally good, if not a bit uneven. The trek to take down a "big flying beast" being the highlight, with a certain escort mission around town trying the patience.
* The story itself was of course, a complete joke. Luckily this didn't really get in the way of what was going on, but it is certainly notable. I'm not sure if I got lucky with the character editor, but my female MC always seemed to be pretty bemused with what was going on which seemed to be pretty apt. I do like it that one of the enemies calls you out on basically dicking around but it did kind of make the whole thing funnier.
* The highlight of the story for me was the Duke
mission where you interrupt him "making friends" with the young girl. But right after it is back to doing missions for him, even though he throws you in the dungeon to rot of course and is clearly possessed or evil. "So," I thought, "We are just going to gloss over all that are we and pretend it didn't happen? Mmm, righteo then".
My character's ironically smiling face said it all.
* Technically, everything was decent enough but there is plenty of room for improvement in a sequel. Things like the camera, occasional frame-rate hits (PS3) and plenty of pop in will no doubt get better with time and refinement.
* Graphically you get some really cool moments and vistas. The enemies themselves were less impressive outside of some of the bigger designs. I wouldn't mind something a bit less generic and more creative going forward.
* Wolfs, as it turns out, hunt in packs.
Overall? A very solid game that I enjoyed, probably more than I expected. I'm invested in the series now, so I hope it continues and gets even better.
So I've completed The Bitter Black Isle and looking to upgrade my equipment and having a hard time trying to understand how the Weapon lv 2 & Weapon lv 3 items are identified to give me the type of weapon I need. I barely defeated the End Boss at lv 98 and my Main Vocation is Magik Archer, usually I do well against large opponents with their Multiple targets, but they trolled me with a single-target end-boss. Basically what do I have to do to get the 2 Magik Bows from Bitter Black Isle?
Btw, I know the reason why my NG hardmode was so incredible tedious. I only played with my main pawn, but he always died after 1 hit no matter the enemy. He was bugged and had less then 50% of the hp he should have had. Same for Armor and Magic Defesnse. Sadly I noticed too late (or rather a friend noticed who looked at my pawn). Seems to be a common bug tho.
He fixed him and gave him the proper stats (lvl 1-26 mage, 26-27 sorc) according to the normal grow via a save manipulator. Stupid bug.

What you get when you purify is tied to what vocation you and your main pawn are at the time of purification. It's basically color-coded; change vocations to Fighter/Fighter = get stuff for the Red vocations (Fighter, Warrior, Mystic Knight).
The hybrid vocations are kind of tricky when going for weapons; for the best results, you should be a Magick Archer and your pawn either a Strider or Ranger. If you go through both of those combinations and still don't get what you want, you'll just have to find more cursed items and try again.
DA comes with all the DLC from DD - you just need to unlock it (it varies depending on where in the game you are).
To access the DLC for DA (there isn't much) you need to talk to Olra in BBI to access it. There was ring sets and I think armor sets - good enough for starting out but once you've cleared BBI (and beaten Daimion 1.0) they become pretty useless.
You can't access BBI until you've gotten past the Encampment fyi.

Can I save before I purify and then change Vocations or is the item determined when I find it? I tried to save then change Vocations and I got the extact same Weapons ( 2 Bitterblack Weapon lv 2 ) 5 times in a row, I figured that it can't be changed after they drop.

Well, I'm still playing and right now I was working on my pawn's knowledge (Bestiary/Quest/Travels). Seems like it is a bit difficult to get one of you to take my pawn along on your adventuring. I guess the list having over a hundred entries doesn't help.
If you are in the same boat as I am, send me a message and we can take each others pawn on our travels and hopefully get those "3 Star" ratings across the board. Some Rift Crystals would also be nice
PSN: Akuma_818
Pawn: Isabel (Speed Sorcerer, skills are all fast BASE offensive spells)
So far, I have been having more luck with the gamefaqs crowd, though some of the "renters" have been a little inconsistent.

I would gladly but I'm not in the 100 range. 56 now. I'll be glad to when I get up there. If anyone has 40ish pawns, I'm glad to take them. Currently with Brienne and Ariana? I think.

When cursed items are dropped, the type of item it is, is determined at the drop; for armor, that means whether it's a head/body/arm/leg piece is decided already, so if you purify and get a leg piece, changing vocations will only give you the leg pieces for the different vocations.
Perhaps the weapons work on a primary/secondary classification when they're dropped. Meaning that if you're a Fighter and purify a primary weapon, which gets you a sword; changing vocations to a Strider and purifying again will get you a dagger -- so no matter how many times you change vocations, you'll never get a bow or a shield, as they are secondary weapons. I'm not sure if that's how it works or not for weapons, but it makes sense.
Can anyone make a suggestion for my pawn - his name is Stephen on the 360. He's a level 46 support Mage, with the rank 9 sorcerer abilities along with all the Mage boosting abilities and the wyrmring. Seems to have higher than average magic power compared to others that level, but not sure how I should improve him from now on.
Should I leave him as a Mage for the rest of the game, or is it worth gaining some levels in other specs for a core augment I've missed?
(My Xbox ID is voidhawk66 if anyone wants to give him a spin).
Sounds like, by the way you explained your current situation, it would save you a lot of time and frustration by just going to NG+ to get to the point where you have access to Fournival. (and by reclearing BBI you'll gain some levels and gear you probably need)
Having those consumables will save you tons and tons of time if you plan to farm BBI.

Only augment you could get is Bastion, rank 1 warrior augment for increased defense. Other then that there's nothing really for a magic character. I believe the magic attack stat growth is higher when leveling as a sorcerer than mage, but it's probably like 1 point so it doesn't even matter.
Hit level 32 today and began doing the royal orders today. The griffin quest was pretty epic, now I'm going to do the new batch of side quests before doing the trial main quest.
I'm really pleased with myself for persevering though the parts of the game I didn't grasp at the start to now find myself wanting to play all the time.
Just got the game! Quick question: is it possible to kill the chimera playing on Hard if this is my first time through? I kind of want to see the dragon cutscene, but I'm dying before I can get there.

Damn, those consumables are really that good? I used 4 conqueror periapts on my first run of Daimon and didnt see too much of a difference. But if I have to do it, I guess I'll do.
Decided to finish the game and start on the post-game content - any recommendations? I've now maxed assassin and was thinking of trying mystic archer, ranger or mystic knight next.
Final dragon fight was great fun and really well done I thought, even if it did take me ages to kill as I'm useless without auto aim at hitting the hearts...

Last night I farmed the final area before reaching the end-boss and got 7 Bitterblack Weapon lv 2 & 1 Bitterblack Weapon lv 3 and NOT ONE of them was a Magik Bow I did as you suggested and watched the video and all I keep getting are Sapfire Daggers? From my lv 3 Weapon I got a Dominion Claw for my Magik Archer, when I change to Yellow I would have gotten a Long Bow. I have a pretty nice assortment of lv 2 Bitterblack Weapons ( I did change to both Red as well, no sense in getting doubles ) but no weapon for my Magik Archer... this is truly frustrating
