Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

I now throw myself at the feet of gafs mercy one last time. I killed death and got both a bone lantern and scythe shard. I godsbaned myself to see if I could go for a level 3 drop but by doing so both of my Mats plus the drop I did get disappeared. I am willing to compensate the copying costs through gifts, but if someone could send the shard and Lantern I would be utterly grateful

Also quite a few gaffers will see new gear on their pawns so check it out ;)

Welp, playing as melee only against the Ur-Dragon completely sucks. Down to the last half health bar and the only spots are on the wing tips. Pawns do nothing, I just started NG+ so I don't have a good source of merchants for items, and the game is exposing how absolutely terrible the monster climbing is when it actually requires precision out of you.

Hey guys!

Bought today this game, played a little and got a few questions.

Allright.

a) I'm getting exp for levels, "c" points for renting pawns or something, some other points for buying combat tecnics... but what's about the rank?

b) I made a pawn, but the game said something about your "main" pawn and "temporal" pawns... so what's my "main" pawn now, the rook guy or the pawn I made? If I kick roock the other guy becomes my main pawn?

c) There's only 3 classes available out of 9 I think? How does that work? Do I get them opened after I progress? I picked strider for my char, looked cool and I'm liking the fast combat stuff + archery for range.

d) Looking through the distance, following the coast, I saw the outline or something that looked like a circular building? Is that a place you can go?

I think that's all for now.

Thanks =)

There are 3 main obtainables in regards to characters and pawns:

1. Rift Crystals (RC Points) - this is used for renting pawns and un-cursing gear in BitterBlack Ilse. The higher the pawn level over your character, the higher the RC cost. You get RC points from players renting your pawn, completing quests and picking up rift fragments.

2. Discipline points. You get these by killing things. They are used to increase your vocation abilities and act as a leveler so that you can learn new abilities.

3. Experience Points. Standard RPG fair.

b) I made a pawn, but the game said something about your "main" pawn and "temporal" pawns... so what's my "main" pawn now, the rook guy or the pawn I made? If I kick roock the other guy becomes my main pawn?

Your main pawn will be the one you created and follows you throughout the game. You can get rid of Rook - his purpose was to show you what a pawn was and how they work.

c) There's only 3 classes available out of 9 I think? How does that work? Do I get them opened after I progress? I picked strider for my char, looked cool and I'm liking the fast combat stuff + archery for range.

There are three primary vocations that you can start with - Fighter, Strider and Mage. Once you get to a certain point in the game
Gran Soren
and have hit a character level of 10, it opens up and the following 6 vocations are available: Mystic Knight, Mystic Archer, Warrior, Ranger, Sorcerer and Assassin.

All of them have their own strengths and weaknesses.

d) Looking through the distance, following the coast, I saw the outline or something that looked like a circular building? Is that a place you can go?

You can late game.

This game appears to be massive, can't wait to keep digging.

God's had his chance.

It's really only horrible on the largest dragons in the game. Primarily because of the wings which tend to block almost every available angle the second the dragon makes any turn away from your initial climbing angle.

Never had a problem with the camera or precision or anything with any other creature. Remember that jumping while your climbing a beasty is the fastest way to climb upwards and also tends to re-orientate your camera for you.

but yah... Grigori and the Ur can both be a bitch if you don't have a bow on you.

My biggest question about this game is how powerful/useful do the 'grand' sorcerer spells feel? I've read a few pretty uninspiring comments about the jewelry spell system in general. Dragon's Dogma's biggest draw for me was how powerful mages/sorcerers felt, but if all I'm getting is some really long timers DA loses quite a bit of draw for the price tag.

Yeah, I mean it always felt janky but with how lenient all the other enemy types are it's not much of a concern. But when I have to try getting on its shoulder to wait for it to get its wing closer and get some scant few swipes all the while clipping through him at parts and being completely awkward to move in the direction I need to while the camera is doing its own thing - yeah, it's frustrating.

Pretty much yah it does. DA shoulda been DLC - not a new game. The hidden augments and level 3 gear, if mixed right, make DA ridiculously easy. I'm a level 170 Assassin solo'ing BBI with next to no problems.

I hate when bosses give no leeway like this. Got the wing tips on Ur and there's about 5% of his last life bar remaining and I see no more weakspots. Been trying to cling onto him in various spots in the hopes I'd damage him somewhere, but nothing. :I

Try another class if you aren't feeling challenged. I wasn't at all happy initially having to rebuy the game for DA, but having racked up a lot of hours now grinding out stuff I think it justifies the cost. There is plenty to do, and if you aren't cheesing your way through, it'll keep you on your toes no matter what your level.

The thing I like about it is that its a lot less random than it first appears, so if you know what you are doing you can focus on maxing out particular classes without too much trouble.

The only slight disappointment is that lvl3 BBI gear only tend to outmatch gold upgraded level 2 pieces at the highest level, requiring a lot of Daimon/Death farming before its worth bothering with them if you have the finished lvl2 piece.

I see Clear here...

I originally bought Dragon's Dogma used from GameFly for $20. After playing it, I happily bought Dark Arisen on day one for $40. I even had to drive from Best Buy to Target to GameStop to buy it.

Imagine that. I bought a game used, then bought new copy of the release from GameStop day one. Those evil exploitative bastards.

Aw man, I didn't talk to Aelinore after the "knighting" scene where you first meet her in the courtyard and apparently now I'm locked out of her entire questline :/

Restarted my save file sigh

NG+ would've solved that for you in a more timely manner. Plus if you eyed ANYONE else for a love interest you do not want to do her quest line.

This is so f'n true. I came here to post pretty much this exact post. I'm so sad it's over. I love this game, but I've done pretty much all there is to do.

GIVE ME DD2!!

With that said...I put out a request to you guys on Xbox....my stepson is grinding BBI...his pawn is getting pretty decked out, but he's running out of RCs. I'm on PS3 (he will not be Xbox next gen, but I came in too late to change that this time around haha), so I can't aid him. If any of you Xbox people need a pawn, please look him up. Gamer tag: shadowcloak43 (ranger lvl 135'ish)

Thanks!

Hit level 50 just after taking out
the Drake
up near the Shadowfort.

What is with all the level 50 pawns being Guardians?
I'm on the 360, but I'd imagine it being the same on the PS3 as well. People need to be on top of their inclinations, or at least not spam the "come" or "help" commands.

yea, the biggest weakness of this game is that it just ends, and you know there won't be any new content to look forward to. it's very rare for me to feel this way nowadays.

Unfortunately, the main way it is being annoying is by never showing up, except one time when I saw it's ass flying away out of range towards Gran Soren.

that's too bad. maybe you could lure it out with lots of carcasses.

Just moved onto BBI. Level 78, switched from MK back to Ranger after being fed up with no quick ranged attacks (don't really enjoy spellcasting from the times I tried it as a MA/MK). I was going to go back to MA, but I have a hard time picking a 3rd bow skill I actually like. I haven't tried explosive bolt yet, though.

Apologies for the derail guys, but I feel like I'm being personally called out:

I've been an avid gamer for over 30 years man; First in the arcades (Robotron ftw), then early consoles and 8-bit personal computers at which point I decided that I wanted to join in the process of making the things I loved so much.

Like most people in development, I'm a gamer first. I wouldn't have put up with all the shit involved in the business for as long as I did, were it not for my love of games.

Jake Tower said:

So did I, but I also bought the original DD for more, put 200 hours into it last year and haven't resold it on principle, I'd rather give it to a friend than line Game's pockets.

And yeah, as this proves high quality $40 games do exist, but lets see the sales figures for it before deciding that dropping prices is really going to stimulate sales that much.

Personally, I'd love it to be the case because I buy a lot of games. But the tyranny of numbers is what rules the business. All business in fact.

Geez what the heck's going on under the town?

Those lizards were a pain in the arse to kill and then there's bandits? And if I understand it correctly, after the bandits there are ghosts or something like that? Did they build a town over the mouth of hell or what?

Also if I start a new game will I overwrite my old one?

Monsters and baddies are all over the place in Gransys. But there is a place that you will get to soon where there is nothing but
deer and bunnies
. Think I shed a tear when I first came upon this place, then wasn't sure if I should bask in their solace or kill them all.

And yes, starting a new game will overwrite the old save.

Whats with the purification system in this game? I want to get a Darkening Storm, changed my class and pawn's one to Strider... and I keep getting Revenant Wails. 3 in a row (yeah I accepted them and tried with a new cursed item).

Ok, I reached the point where I can change professions.

So far I like the flexibility of both daggers and bows. There's two options I see, explorer and assassin. What's the difference between them? Any suggestions?

There are 2 main things as far as I can tell:

Firstly there's selection of type by colour code, red, blue, yellow (hybrids all have a dominant colour, e.g. assassin = yellow same as ranger and strider) based on the player and their main pawns job.

This effect works at time of purification so you can easily godsbane it to get what you want. Just remember that the order of items purified is always fixed, so if you have multiple cursed items of the same level they will always purify in the same order.

This is important as the other part is that the choice you get from the drop depends on from where and when the drop comes. It seems to me direct drop loot from death/daimon will always be one of the rarer pieces, but its probably just random.

Similarly I noticed that I started to get better gear after I had lower level equivalents gold rarified; for example I never saw Framae Blades until I got gold Helmbartes daggers. I also noticed the rare armour sets were always appearing for me in a suspiciously fixed order, with helms and capes dropping before any of the other parts.

So some quests I got now are not available?

I feel like restarting the game lawl.

Also, how do you know if a quest is level appropiate or not? I'm getting bombarded with quests all over the place and i don't even know if i can do them or not.

most quests you get from npcs should be doable as you open them, escort quests are tricky so I don't do them, board quests in general are quests you do throughout the game, they're all kill/fetch quests so you could just pick them up before leaving town.

There are some enemies you might have to avoid at the beginning, like bandits, but as you level up they will get easier.

1. Go to the place the quest talks about

2. Fight any enemies you see (Unfortunately for most enemies this is going to be the only way to tell if they are stronger than you. Maybe avoid the really big enemies for awhile, they look strong). If you're kicking ass or at least making it through with liberal use of curatives, you're probably on a quest appropriate for your level.

3. If you're getting killed immediately:
a. Is there a way to avoid those enemies and get where you need to go? If so, you may be on a quest appropriate for your level.
b. Are there any terrain features you can use to your advantage to fight a stronger enemy from safety, like a ledge you can snipe from? If so you may be able to tackle a quest slightly out of your pay grade.

4. If you're still getting killed, shake your fist in anger and mutter to yourself, "I'll get you in 10 levels, random really strong bandit!"

So the consensus is this game is good... PS3 runs smoother... but its as hard as Dark Souls? I am itching for a fantasy game to buy but I am not a very hardcore player these days and I prefer an easier game. :p!

It is good, the PS3 version runs at a lower framerate but with less tearing than the 360 version, and it's not Dark Souls at all.

If you want an open world high fantasy adventure that you can take at your own pace, this one's for you. You can even adjust difficulty.

360 version has better framerate

It's not like dark souls, it's a bit like dmc lite+jrpg, you could outlevel some enemies, there are some challenging areas but it's not as balanced and tough as DS overall.

Fuck me..dragon fight was not that easy, even at level 61. I had to item cheese him a bit. Went immediately to Everfall and slapped the evil eye like nothing though. Now to start clearing up trophs.

Yep, I'm an idiot. No wonder I was getting my ass kicked all the time. Rook was just a goddamn pawn! I was dragging his sorry ass for like 12 hours thinking he was part of the story.

Anyways, question about the quimeras: Those things are everywhere but I've only seen them during the day. Do they show up at night?

I think I can take one out, but all of them are surrounded by 10 or more mobs, so it's a no no for now.

So does having more pawns in your party more less exp for your character or does that only apply if the main pawn is present?
