Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

So I started playing this. The problem I have with this game is that it lacks any feeling of satisfaction or a real sense of progress. Combat doesn't feel tight and it feels a bit random. I don't know... am I alone feeling that way?

I think strider is a bit "floaty" and their attacks lack a bit of weight, but that's pretty much it, I think sword/shield class and ranger feels a bit better.

I'm not sure about the randomness though, maybe it has to do with the pawns doing everything? Not being able to control them might give you that feeling at the beginning, especially with early pawns without much knowledge of what to do against enemies, and there are 3 of them running all over the place.

Iam 15 hrs in and feel way OP with a warrior.

After getting the 2hander, escort quest, at about 20 with fighter you seem to stun/knockdown lock everything. Light combo/jump+heavy to run to whirlwind slash kills almost everything. My party make up of MP healer, nuker, shield type.

Now Iam 34 and in finished catacombs. I havent bought any armor or weapons just use what i pick up. Havent sold anything and seems crafting is a waste of time. All the pawns Ive picked up are about my level.

Got one more mission on wyrm hunt before i talk to the duke.

Is there a sudden jump in difficulty soon or iam I grinding/questing to much?

Finally over 10 million RC and over 150 hires. Going on vacation in a few days and will be gone for 2 1/2 weeks. Can't wait to see what's in store for me when i return!

The difficulty balancing sucks in this game. Even if you started on hard, you'd experience the same thing. The only real way to get some challenge is not use pawns. Sucks, but it's the truth.

Definitely switch to Hard Mode. If you feel that things are too easy, reduce your party size (you + main pawn only). I'm assuming you are playing the main game and have not reached Bitterblack Island, Warriors are not overpowered there. This makes for some epic battles that would be laughable with the ranged classes.

Idk if any of you guys know this but, This game is pretty good.

I have no idea why I stopped playing at level 50 something last time, but this time I'm at where I was before and I am loving every second of it. Haven't gotten into the dark arisen stuff yet, but I haven't enjoyed a game this much since demons souls.

Sorry Dark souls <3

Ok so I've been running around everfall killing monsters and picking up loot but I kinda want to end the game so I can re roll a new character so how do I beat the game? Is there a place I have to go to beat the game or something or do I have to do all of the dungeons in everfall first? I'm getting the impression that everfall is just a place to grind loot but I'd just like to finish so I can start over again so what the hell am I supposed to do?

Finished the game today. Best game I've played since demons souls. NG+ seems really interesting and I've already explored a bunch, but I hate replaying games because I like to end on a high note. I feel like NG+ is just me waiting until I don't like the game anymore.

Alright, I think I need some tips on progression beginning of the game after running around doing nothing but killing goblins.

Just hit Gran Soren, but still have a truckload of sidequests to be completed. Problem is that I cant find any of the enemies outside of goblins/harpies/saurions.

My mage just hit level 20; any ideas where to head? Found a stone golem and wyrm, but ran like hell after doing 0 dmg.

Did you talk to the fellow at the Gran Soren Pawn Guild yet? That progresses the story. Don't do that until you've found Quina first though.
More enemies will open up through the story, you may find some new ones by travelling to other areas of the map though.

The guy who starts some quest about exploring Everfall? Yea, i've met up with him.

Just getting worried about sidequests disappearing after certain story check points from what I've heard. That and I don't have a clear path of progression to follow, and seem to be running in circles.

There's a good guide somebody else here recommended, but I don't have the link handy (on phone). It was the Hero Trophy Guide or something.
The main quest you'll miss will be Lost and Found if you go to the Everfall, and that's a major miss because it locks you out of content. I should know, it happened to me. I've only discovered all this new stuff on New Game+.
I don't think you can lose any notice board quests if you've picked them up already, so ignore those 'kill 10 monsters' quests. Just make sure you've cleared the quests your Cassardis friends gave you personally.

Actually even if you've talked with , him... you can still do the quests you've missed as long as you don't reach that quest mid point ( at the very bottom ).

That is the moment where you cannot go back and do the rest( the quest "lost and found" ) is a must

Been using solo assassin since level 40 or so and I'm in bitter black now at 70 something. This game is so good it baffles me. All it needs is some form of online multi-player and pvp, a bit more story telling and a tad bit more variety in the enemies through the early game.

Top 5 games I've played this generation regardless.

I've been playing this for around 100 hours, loving it but now i'd like to see the ending. But i have a question about Bitterblack isle... If i beat it once and then i go to finish the game in the everfall, when in the new game + i'll go back to bbi what version of it will i found?
I know that after you beat it once bbi will become much harder, passing to a new game + does reset it?

Yes, BBI resets on new game plus. This helps if you are doing the macabre sculpture quests, since the sculptures respawn.

The only reason for doing NG+ in my opinion is for those kinds of completionist tasks and trophy hunting. I went to play the game again and there really isn't much point to bringing your levels over unless all you want to do is farm bitterblack and make your pawn's gear awesome. Sucks that you can't opt to bring your inventory and ditch your levels. It kind of hurt to lose all my gear starting a new game, but at least it's not dead boring.

Used my girlfriends Xbox account to make a new character so I can do a run through of BBI with just a main pawn at the earliest possible moment, which ended up being at level 3.

I'm a sorcerer and main pawn Arcee is a Mage, and its working very well. Managed to get to level 19 in about an hour with no deaths so far :)

Thanks for the info, i' ve finished bbi and then i went to finish the game.
I think i'll go back to bbi in ng+ just to kill
death
. I had to run through a whole section with it following me. At the beginning it was kinda scary, but then it almost became funny when an ogre and other beasts joined us while running through the sewers in what became a sort of benny hill chase :D

Dude, you should just go for it on your own in BBI. Rush through the main game to build up some levels, don't worry about equipment, because once you get to BBI you'll get even better stuff.

I'm currently playing Dark Souls and loving it. Can anyone who's played the Souls series tell me if Dragon's Dogma is as fun? I'm not looking for a similar experience because I know they're not all that alike.

It's similar in that the boss encounters are a fun challenge. It's not directly like it but many people who play Demon Souls like Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen a lot, Vageta311 on twitch for example was a convert :)

Yeah its a lot of fun but don't expect the challenge that you would get from dark souls. Game becomes pretty easy after getting to Gran Soren and getting some gear. Unless you gimp yourself like playing w/o any pawns or going to Black Isle really early, you won't get the challenge that you'd get from a souls game. That said, game is a lot of fun and its never not awesome climbing up an orge's back and stabbing him in the eye with your fire enchanted dagger or sword until he falls.

Capcom like their updated releases like Street Fighter 4, where each new update is considered the one to get so same applies for Dragons Dogma. Dark Arisen is the one to get :)

Random note: Swords with an Assassin is godlike.

Dark Arisen also has improvements to inventory and equipment management, and way more to do once you hit high levels. There really isn't a reason to get the original version at all, unless it's free maybe.

So I beat Daimon for the first time a few hours ago, but the bump in "difficulty" is a bit ridiculous after that. I've done everything there is to be done outside of BBI and having just completed BBI for the first time I just jumped right in and started playing it the second time a few minutes later, because that's pretty much all that's left at this point...

However, when I did, I realized they completely screwed it up on the difficulty bump. I go in, at level 112, using a lvl 2 dragonforged heaven's keys and bam! As soon as I get to duskmoon tower and see what they've done to the game I cringe...

So far, not a single enemy has felt wrongly placed in the sense that the difficulty kept ramping up at a very good pace (except for Death, but I assume that was the whole point in that case), so once I go face to face with my first Firedrake, I just couldn't stop shaking my head... just as easy as the Drake has always been, except now I get to waste 40 mins mashing the same button over and over, because as easy as it was, the sudden bump in "beefyness" just destroyed the balance. I spent 15 mins constantly striking it in it's weakpoint with one ONLY for 1 bar, of which he had 6 more. At this point I just turned my 360 off and proceeded to rant about it in my head all day.

And now I ask you, GAF... WTF is up with this shit? This is what I'm supposed to do next, right? Is this the dev's idea of fun? The worst case of artifficial difficulty I've ever encountered... and let me guess, I'm supposed to grind the game into submission, is that it? Ffs Capcom, I can forgive all the flaws except this one...

I guess I'm done with the game, if this is all it has to offer from now on... oO

Dark Arison is basically a GOTY version with the original+DLC and a new expansion. Not really worth getting vanilla, IMO.

That's it then. Dark Arisen later this year.

I've maxed them all but mostly play as MK and Assassin. Currently Assassin. Buil the character properly, too, with some 30 levels each of sorcerer and fighter/warrior, to make sure I didn't end up with a glass cannon. I went for diversity. And so far it has (or rather, had) paid off.

Why are you still using the Heaven's Key? Haven't you gotten anything better while going through BBI? Equipment seems to play a really large role, maybe even a bigger role than level, in where you fall on the difficulty curve.

But I'm also disappointed in how you described the Firedrake. I haven't beaten BBI yet, but the exact same enemies as before just with more HP doesn't sound fun. Change up the pattern a little, will ya Capcom?

Because I didn't get a new sword or dagger in BBI yet. In fact, haven't gotten a single weapon as a drop in BBI. Only 3 which are in specific chests and don't really depend on drop rates. Gotten lots of new armour pieces though! Anyway, judging by how fast everything died so far, I'd say the Heaven's Keys and the Ascalon are more than enough. The new weapons aren't that much stronger than the Ur weapons, so the gear is clearly not the problem. The best daggers in the whole game only have 20 more mag and 90 more str than the Heaven's Keys.

It's not exactly the same enemy, it has some new attacks and weaknesses, but it's 90% like a normal drake. Only major difference is the ridiculously high amount of HP. The bad part is that it's just as easy as before. In short, it felt like a chore and was boring.

Artifficial difficulty at it's lamest.

So I've hit level 100 after taking down my first Ur-Dragon, which was an interesting fight (split into 3 parts).

I think 100 is a good point to a break from it for a week or two at least.

Z..

Naw. Asassin can down a Fire Drake in 10 seconds. You just need better gear.

90 more str on the daggers isn't gonna change anything when I'm already dishing out close to 2000. It's not the gear. It's the sudden bump in "difficulty" (it's the very definition of artificial difficulty, it's the same easy boss with a shitload more HP) that is completely misplaced. There's nothing to do in between these 2 events. I have done everything there is to do except BBI for the second time. I'm at the right place, I have more than optimal gear. Hell, I've even tried going Ranger with a max level Dragon's Glaze (second best longbow in the game, apparently) and spamming those ice arrows (which it's weak to) into it's heart. Same bullshit. The progression is just badly implemented here. At this point I have 3 options:

- Grind my way to the point where it becomes bearable again. Which I won't do.

- Continue as is, brainlessly mashing the same button over and over and over and over again until the thing drops dead. Sounds like amazing fun. -.-'

- NG+ and then hard mode. Beating BBI the first time on hard mode seems to be the perfect stepping stone here. Although I worry the same retarded increase in enemy toughness will happen once I kill Daimon for the first time again, lol.

--

You've also got to give a round of applause to the pawns, here... I had a Guardian/Challenger fighter right beside me and I get gobbled up by a maneater. The genius starts using Steel Will (he's right beside me, all he had to do was attack once) and after that he leaves and goes and bang on his shield drum in front of the firedrake. Meanwhile, while this is going on, the sorcerer pawn decides it wants to help too so it decides to use High Bolide. Like just attacking or using something faster and equally as effective wasn't good enough. Obviously... I died. Amazing job on the pawn AI, capcom, just amazing.

There is so much potential in this IP that it's easy to overlook the flaws, but they're just so blatantly obvious... I hope the sequel becomes the game I know it can be.

The Bitterblack weapon's are substantially stronger than Ur Dragon weapons, Especially the level 3 weapons.

I actively refuse to play Assassin/Ranger class because of how trivial it makes the game. With the correct items and gear you can kill everything in about 10-15 seconds.

Once you reach a certain point in the game Pawns stop being too useful.

You are really doing it wrong then.
Lv 3 gear is drastically better then anything you get before. Especially weapons.
Also about 50% of Heavens Keys power comes from holy enchantment. Fire Drakes have high resistance against holy though, so there goes half of your power with that weapon.

As an Asassin you will want to down a Drake as quick as you can with your bow. Once he is on the ground, jump to his chest and mash away with 1000 Kisses (of course you need those lv 3 rings for your vocation) and he will be dead in 10 seconds. It's not that hard.

Later you will get rooms with 2 or 3 Drakes at once, so you really need to adjust your gear if one of them is giving you trouble already.

It's been quite a while since I played Dragons Dogma but can anybody remind me what happens when you die during a quest and when you are just wandering around?

Does it reset you to the last used Inn or a checkpoint? I can't for the life of me remember. I lend my copy to a friend so I can't really check myself.

Slygmous

You have the option to 'retry', which I think reloads the latest save available (either a checkpoint or your own save). It also offers the option to return to the last Inn save as well, if I remember correctly.
Thankfully it's been a little while since I died.
