Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Help!!! I'm just roaming around randomly at the beginning, have an empty quest log and no idea where to go. I made my way north of the Encampment toward Gran Soren, can't go further because the guard won't let me through. On my way back there's a team of bandits that always spawn, they're ridiculously powerful. They kill me in two hits and whatever I do barely scratches them!!!

What do I do?

Head back to the other side of the encampment and spend some time leveling in the early areas doing quests there. Just run away from the bandits. Bandits are pretty hardcore on this game.

Did you meet Mercedes and spend the night at the encampment? After you do that you should be able to get all the way to Gran Soren.

Oh also, I finally started using MA in BBI, and holy crap the ricochet shot took down an elder ogre in like 15 seconds. Never seen anything like that.

Where do I meet Mercedes? If I just let my team stand still will day eventually come? The game is really difficult and I'm playing on very easy, lol. This is coming from someone who has mastered Ninja Gaiden, loves Demon's Souls, and so forth.

Mercedes should be at your home town. Did you do all the NPC missions there?
You'll have your revenge on those bandits when you level up some.

Bandits sometimes sleep at night it seems, but there will be other monsters out. If you saved out in the wrong area you might need to sprint back overnight.

Mercedes is in the encampment.
Damn, I always get Mercedes and Madeline's names mixed up :( Madeline can be escorted to the encampment.

Hey guys I just received the final quest, but it feels like I haven't been playing long enough; kind of feels like I missed a ton of quests somehow.

Is that possible? When I look at the map it doesn't look very filled in.

My console broke down which most likely was the cause of a corrupted harddrive. Is there any way to get my character back once my console is repaired or are all my hours flushed down the drain?

I finally finished up BBI, doing most of it over the last two days, split into after the
Gazer
to fighting the
Dark Bishop
, and then after that to finishing the dungeon and
Daimon
. There were a few tougher points, but overall it was a solid challenge but not too bad...aside from
Daimon
. I went in with 2 Wakestones and a shitton of potions (playing a level 87 Sorcerer, pawns are a Fighter, Ranger, and Mage) and still barely made it out alive. His lunge grab is fucking bullshit, and since the sorcerer can't dodge for shit and takes forever to use any real spells you're stuck using the basic bolt or fireballs/lightning the whole time, anything else will be disrupted.

The
Dark Bishop
was definitely the best boss in BBI for me though, it with the weaker
Cursed Dragon
were a blast to fight, and Death (and other carrion monsters) randomly spawning was awesome. I think I'm about done with the game though, 83-ish hours and most of the mainline quests twice over and I dont care to grind BBI or Everfall. Fantastic game overall, just with there was more high-level dungeons like BBI.

Sadly no. once the hdd goes it's game over. I know the feeling, happened to me with my first 360. Still haven't returned to Lost Odyssey after all the time lost.

BBI closes all the shortcuts and tougher enemies appear.
Daimon has a 2nd form after you beat him first.

There is also a dlc which replaces the areas with more powerful monsters. For example ine room has 6 living armors and another has 2 cursed dragons or 2 big cyclops.

The fallen city will also have enemies from now on until you go to NG+(7 eliminators/3 living armors/2 dragons/possible cursed dragon or death depending on what spawns.

I went straight back in there. They restock the dungeon with new enemies including
two drakes in a room together
and other insane sh*t. I'm about to face Daemon a second time. I didn't have any problems unloading the good stuff on him. You just have to choose your moments as you always do with sorcerer build. I loved BBI. Best part of the whole game for me, just so action packed.

Wondering about the new DLC after that. Is it any good?

I keep getting lost in this game, the quest log isn't very clear sometimes. Help:
I escorted the animal to Gran Soren, also asked about the pawns guild. Now what? I have no quest updates.

Go to the left of weapons shop/right of potion shop then follow the rest of the instructions.

Finally got Dark Arisen. IT's been awhile, I have to get used to the mechanics again but I'll manage.

Question: Right now I'm level 55, in Everfall. Haven't completed the game yet. I've read that you need to be around level 100 to go to Black Isle? If so, how would you advise me leveling up quickly?

And for some sort of reason I seem to be missing a lot of my weapons. Still got the kunai though.

You don't have to be level 100 to go to BBI. I was around level 55 when I went there. Just head straight there. It's awesome. You can always leave if it's too much

Picking up Dragon's Dogma later today (PS3).

This game is truly open-world right? As in "Elder Scrolls" open world? (but apparently with better combat?)

How well does it scale? I just picked up Dark Arisen and am curious if I going to get fucked up if I go there at level 55.

Yes and no.
You can pretty much go anywhere after a certain point early in the game, but it's mostly paths blocked by mountains, so you can't take very many shortcuts.

You'll get torn into shreds unless you have pawns who are lv100+ who can kill very quickly.

Do you have psn or xbl?

You can hire my pawn(lv200) if you're on psn and I can also give you some stuff.

It's open world, but it's definitely smaller in scale compared to an average ES game.

It definitely has much better combat than any ES game though. Not to mention the superior character animation and dynamics.

Thanks for the offer but it's no skin off my nose to grind for awhile, I was intending to do a second play through anyway, for the hell of it. Plus in on XBLive.

Why is the framerate so bad? I'm playing the ps3 version and the frame rate constantly drops to 22-25 and it's nearly impossible to play. And there isn't even any clutter on the screen when it happens(No magic spells, huge bosses etc.) Even when I just walk around it just happens, the game slows down it's super annoying. I want to play the game, but I can't like this. Does anybody here have the same thing? Does anyone have a solution for this? Looked around the internet and really found no solution.

Well I don't know about your build but I went there on around level 55 and it was certainly tough but in a good way. It was just perfect actually. I am playing a sorcerer character though. No idea how things will pan out if you are playing melee. In fact I only just made level 100 at the end of my second BBI run through.

Just go and try it and see.

This game is excellent. Sorry if I am LTTP, but I should have bought this ages ago. I feel like it does everything right that prior games tried but failed to achieve.

Combat is fun but difficult; enemies that are strong along with the stamina bar both add a great deal of strategy that I wish other games of this genre had. Combat is fluent; I can go from bow wielding archer to climb the bastards back with my knives in hand. Environment is creepy, especially at night. The world feels alive; NPC for the most part aren't stagnant, they have schedules.

This might be my favorite game this gen.

It's a fantastic game and one of my favourite RPGs of all time. The Dark Arisen expansion is even better in my view.

A very mid maxed magic archer that focuses on daggers over a staff. I went there last night just to peep it out. Level the design of the place Black Bitter Isle. All those holes in the ceiling letting the moonlight shine in onto a tree that has grown out of the foundation, it's like they dove into a D&D fantasy and brought back what they saw. Anyone has some hi-res concept art of the isle?

I didn't go too far deep into the place. What I did encounter I was able to murderlate pretty fast except death seemed to be untouchable with magical gleam (I was taking a guess that light magic might just him) or my explosive rivets. I'm thinking I might trade out sixfold shot for ricochet arrows. Can any fellow magic archers give some recommendations on skills?

Yeah it's not that bad; just keep going. BBI is my favourite part of the whole game. The battle music just rocks. I don't know if trying to fight Death when you first arrive is a plan. He's pretty tough. Probably best avoided initially.

I never tried magic archer before I got to BBI. I was astounded at how effective the ricochet shot is at taking tough enemies down.

I love Magic Archer, most of the skills are really dope though I wish ensnare was left over from the strider class. Magic Archer is almost OP.

Would consider trying the game again on a different class but I think I should give it some rest first. I just played magic user all the way through. I've always wondered how the other classes played. I can't really switch where I am now as I will be destroyed.

Magick Archer with Sixfold, Explosive Rivets, and Ricochet destroys BBI -- even more so when you get a better bow and the band that upgrades Sixfold and Explosive Rivets.

So magical gleam isn't useful? Because I have a staff with an ice enchantment and using high frigor if i needed ice magics instead of sixfold. Those tight corridors scream use ricochet.

I can't think of anything that is hurt more by Gleam than Sixfold/Ninefold, but I never used Gleam much in the first place.

Undead, specters, wraiths, succubi, and skeletons warriors, basically any thing that isn't "living" all one shots with gleam it also stuns regular enemies, it also has a blast radius so groups of undead get fucked up fast, and its' a light. It's holy magic so if nothing in BBI is to susceptible to it I don't want to take it with me. With that said I'm just going to go in with the information that I have now. Wish me luck gentlefolk, I'll see you on the other side.

I hardly ever used it in the main game so I only knew about it setting undead on fire. I can see how it would be useful on the Spectres/Wraiths if it does decent damage to them, those are the things that gave me the most trouble when playing as a Ranger.

The room with 2 dragon's right before the final area of BBI (the ruined city) NEVER GETS EASIER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVb7tOkOVJ0

This room is always a disaster every time I try to go through it.

Was that your playthrough? Why did you carry your pawn to the top of the stairs?

To be honest, I just nuked those guys from the entrance with top level sorcery. If you stand far enough back they cannot get at you and you can nail them as they try. Just keep your pawns at your side so they don't run in and get killed. They go down pretty easy. Wouldn't want to get in a room with those guys. Even better is what's beyond that room... :)

Yeah that was mine, it was my third run through of BBI and this room never gets easier as a magick archer, at least for me. I carried my pawn to the top of the stairs because the last 5 times I had picked him up he rushed back into battle and would get himself insta gibbed.
also my pawn is my best bro he has to survive man!! An arisen has a duty to their main pawn after all

The fight was never light damage, it was usually insane dragon combos that would result in a wakestone after a 5 hit chain. It was intense as hell.

I think the ruined city is easier for me because there is more room to play with the environment. This room is just one huge arena of getting murdered.

What level were you at as MA? For me as long as they weren't ice super dragons one ninefold would take them out of the air pretty much no matter what. Made the fight easily manageable. Seriously MA is OP.

Yeah got to look after the pawn. Sometimes I find myself almost breaking the D-pad spamming the "say back" command. It would be nice if they would just listen... *sigh*

The ruined city with the
ice drake and fire drake
was pretty great. There was more room to manoeuvre but the whole place was crammed full of eliminators so that was something to keep an eye on but it was the presence of the
ice drake
which ups the ante. I love that they cast through walls and stuff. I was like 'hey, that's MY tactic!'
