Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

So yeah level 53 character here and wow.... I was getting creamed easily. I just defeated the cockatrice. I'm guessing that isn't very far. Would you recommend just playing through the main campaign before trying it again?

It doesn't matter, it seems to scale to your current level. Having more abilities and such will obviously help you a bit, so it might be worth it to grind for that.

There are some bits of Bitterblack that are probably gonna be rough. I'd recommend playing the game until you get
the Wyrmking's Ring
before you go to Bitterblack, because the sheer number of enemies along with their level of aggression make charging spells kind of a pain in the ass.

You're not going to be getting a lot of Bolides and Maelstroms and such off, so lean on your basic spells for the most part. High Voidspell's really useful to have, too, though you can always just pack plenty of petrification-curing items if you don't want to use a skill slot for it.

I'm using a staff-wielding Magick Archer so far, and I'm kind of jonesin' for some non-pawn physical damage at this point, personally. Good luck.

I'm worried about the boss creatures with high mag resistance more than anything. I might need to switch to a hybrid class for that Gazer fight. Fortunately I already intended to visit BB Isle after I've beaten the dragon and everything. I'll probably tackle it at around lv.60.

Wait, Bitterblack scales? How so?

Is there an easy way to rename my Pawn? I just had an idea for a badass name.
To answer my own question, it seems like the answer is "no." The only way to do it is via a Metamorphosis scroll purchased with rift crystals (5K+), which is a shame for something that is a simple text edit.

Special shout out to the style of hat that looks like Robin Hood accidentally put his through the dryer. They even make them in multiple colours so that everyone can enjoy them. lol.

I think I actually like the hat you're talking about if we're thinking of the same one. Reminds me of Cammy's hat in Street Fighter Alpha.

Fuck

This game man. This fucking game. I've already skipped meals. I've already lost sleep over it. I've gotta get my head together before I become the dangan.

Finally made it to gran soren. Stocked up on Armor but I need to head out into the wilderness and farm some gold and discipline

Now that I have access to all classes, should I leave myself as is for the time being or move to where I want to end up? I want to level up my warrior a bit more I think before moving to Mystic Knight (augs) same goes for my pawn before moving her to the ranger class (I thought pawns could only be the basic class? )

I'd say either way you can't go wrong, really. As long as you can afford any potential new equipment you'd need to. I'm pretty sure as soon as I made it to Gran Soren I went from Strider to Ranger and it was great. You can always go back to increase vocation ranks if you want to, also.

I have to get up for work at around 7:45 every day, I usually fall asleep around 4am now because of this game. I can't wait till the weekend so I can actually get through a large chunk of it and have my regular schedule back.

You might be able to Bolide it to death if you're really patient, or you could recruit a couple Ranger pawns with Great Gamble and cross your fingers. Otherwise, yeah, you're going to want to switch classes for that fight.

If you're min-maxing that fight gives you so much experience you'll likely level at least once if not twice, so any pre-planned leveling scheme is a bit boned unless you're already at an incredibly high level.

Pawns are only forbidden from being the hybrid classes: Assassin, Magick Archer, and Mystic Knight. They can be any of the six basic and advanced vocations.

Anyone else notice that the rings you get from purifying Bitterblack gear don't seem to actually add to the stats they claim to boost?

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I guess. I've always been the sort to tackle a single playthrough using a single playstyle. This sounds like a good opportunity to take the sorcerer to its absolute limit. Everything is a one-shot kill to me on hard mode.

This game's a lot easier than Dark Souls, but the hardest moments in Dogma are harder than the hardest moments in Dark Souls, in my opinion.

Question : Is it okay to install both the game disc and install disc to the HDD?

There shouldn't be any issue. The Xbox 360's full install feature essentially just creates an image of the disc on the hard drive and plays from that; on a technical level, as far as the system is concerned, it's no different from playing from the physical disc.

Gicel might also work since it deals some physical damage like Bolide does, but my pawn was using Gicel in that fight and I never once saw any of the icicles actually connect. It might be possible to hit with it if it's aimed by a human, though.

Literally the only pawn attack I saw deal damage to that boss was Great Gamble, which is why I recommended it.

A beret? I was referring to the leather cap:

It's a very intimidating piece of attire. I see a man wearing a hat like that and the first thing I think is "that person will cut my throat as soon as look at me." My male strider's primary weapons are actually called Throatcutters, so this hat just really completes the ensemble.

I finally got this after never picking up the original and I love it, I am very impressed by it. I am not far in but so far I can't wait to play more of it.

Magick Archer makes things a lot easier -- it only took 15 minutes to kill a giant GoreCyclops instead of 30!

Plus, Ricochet Bolt takes care of pretty much everything, especially if you're in tight quarters. I guess they made most monsters in DA weak to lightning because that element was practically useless in DD.

Getting great loot now, as well; just need to get the materials for Rarefying (they really are rare).

Found some upgraded Dragons in Bitterblack, too: Firedrake; Thunderwyvern; and Frostwyrm. All are much tougher than their standard counterparts, and they drop new loot.

So I noticed there is a shit ton of DLC, particularly the ones revolving bulletin board quests and "a different sky" quests. Does all this nonsense get included in the Dark Arisen rerelease? If not, then are they worth the purchase? I can't imagine these 100+ bulletin quests are any significant?

All included.

Can't wait to get home and get started into this again. Pretty sure i'm basically just gonna retread ground to get to the boss and then go at it... just need to bait death out into the open on my way so I can finish him off, re-battle that awesome dark knight and hopefully find the last few moonbeam gems...

Need more armor as well.

My pawn also climbed up that chained cyclops in the double prisoner room. She was doing so little damage... and he was stuck there not moving ... so i stopped and took a picture. If you could name DD screenshots as you take them, i would have named that one "futile"

Wanted to ask those of you who have been playing DA - especially with new game+ characters... i've grabbed a ton of board quests in Bitterblack and glancing at one or two of them noticed that it seems like some of the new missions they give you have you going back to Gransys to do them?

Anyone seen any missions like this? Done them? Hoping i'm right as I would like a reason to take off back home for alittle bit as a break before I bend that big demon guy over and brake his horns off in his ass >:)

Finally got strong enough to slay those bastard bandits on the path to the Witchwood.

I TOLD THEM I'D BE BACK! AND I WENT BACK! AND IT WAS GOOD!

You can freely travel from Gransys to Bitterblack whenever, and as much as you want.

Stop by the Drake in Devilfire Grove when you're over there, just to kill something big easily. :p

Speaking of the Drake, Dragonforging seems more consistent in DA. So far, every new type of Dragon I've fought (Cursed/Fire/Thunder/Frost) has DF'd multiple pieces (2-4), every time. The Drake in Devilfire has DF'd two pieces multiple times and it takes less retrying when he doesn't.

I don't know what's going on, maybe it's the level scaling, but I can't seem to kill stuff in BB. I've got full DF gear from Everfall, and I'm just not doing shit for damage. Frustrating.

It's also fucking TERRIBLE. I got the first 6-7 from a notice board and they all seem to be 1000xp quests to find a single item.
Pretty much all the quests seem horrible in this game. It's either a kill quest with no idea where to find the creature, an escort to the other side of the world, or find a single herb somewhere in the world to give to some person.

The game's propensity to obfuscate almost every level of the questing process doesn't help, either.

Just take all of the "kill x number of enemy z" quests immediately. As you play the game you'll complete those without even trying. With the item fetch quests you just need to figure out where that sort of item can be found; sometimes it will require a bit of research and a specific trip but it's usually not too onerous. Some of the escort missions can be very tough (especially early on), but that can be a good thing :)

Okay, so I'm in. Made my guy. Made my pawn. Accidentally gave him the deepest voice ever, because the voice previews don't actually contain any words, just grunts. So I'm running round with Darth Vader. Killed a Cyclops (cyclope?), then carried on running around. Realised it was now night. Ran back home. Died. Set out again, went up a hill, towards where Quidco or whatever her name is went. Boulders down a hill. Cool. Died to those guys a couple times, and decided to come back later. Saved before the escort mission of the
Hydra head
, saved and went to bed.

I rolled the bow class, but I'm feeling the lack of a shield and evasive moves. Maybe I should have went with my gut and chose fighter instead.

For future reference, you get a speech sample of your pawn saying "steel yourself for combat!" if you cycle through the facial expressions. Totally unintuitive, but it's there. You should be able to change their voice at the barber in Gran Soren.

Yeah, I just take all of them, and hope I just complete them as I'm playing through quests. The escort quests are balls, though, like all escort quests.

Also, the lack of Skyrim style fast travel is making traveling around a real drag. I hate going out into woods and realizing i have to hoof it all the way back. There also doesn't seem to be any way to figure out what quest people are talking about when you talk to them while a red speech bubble is above their heads. the game says it should be the priority quest, but that doesn't seem to be the case. They seem to be talking to me about anything they damn well please.

Btw, when does fast travel of some kind actually appear? Because the game hasn't told me about anything so far.

I'm starting to find really sweet armor now, this Dragonwing Circle looks awesome and it has better stats than a DFed ur-dragon mask.

Once you get ferrystones you can use them to warp around to either Gran Soren or Cassaradis. You can also find port stones (purple glowing stones) in some places now that you can place and warp to.

Actually, you should be able to buy Ferrystones from the Black Cat or Fournival, and while the base price is 5,000 I seemed to be able to bring it down to 1,000 from Fournival, which is WAy better than the original version's absurd prices.

Yeah, they dramatically reduced the price of Ferrystones in Dark Arisen.

There's also one that can be found in the stone circle around the permanent Portcrystal outside the Gran Soren pawn guild. It respawns after a few days.

I was exploring to the west of the Quarry. I came across a pack of Hobgolins and they where using their horns to call more Goblins and i was getting overwheled. Then all the sudden a small Dragon (a Fire Drake?) drops down and wipes me and my Pawns out.....

That sounds like a fairly typical first visit to Devilfire Grove. For a long time you'll end up sneaking around him... but then one day you'll decide you've had enough of sneaking around him. Win or lose, that will be an awesome day :)
