Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Just thought I'd throw it out there that despite people here saying that I probably wouldn't dig this game, I bought it anyway and I've been loving it!

I'm actually enjoying it much more than I did Skyrim and I think it's because of just how dang fun the combat is. The quest system is pretty neat as well. Also, I really freaking dig the Ray Harryhausen style monsters.

Overall, little annoyances here an there, but I can't understand why this game is so panned by reviewers and Skyrim is praised as the most amazing thing to ever grave the Earth.

Lol..I briefly contemplated making a thread calling out anyone who played Skyrim but not this game..then I realized where I was. What's there to be said other than this game shits all over Skyrim. At least it seems we'll get a sequel.

No. After getting kind of owned repeatedly by the bandits while trying escort quests at level 10 - 12, I gave up on them on my first playthrough.

I had a similar experience around the same level but uh..it's an rpg. You come back when you're stronger and boom, no issue. I've been doing them since about level 20 and they're awesome. New areas taking all day to traverse and filling out the map, finding stuff like the abbey and quarry. Mercedes and Selene were really good paths. I do wish the rewards were slightly better, Mercedes' was the best so far.

All the other side quests outside of the escorts will easily get you to 20ish and then there's plenty of escorts waiting.

i don't like how the emblem has clipping. there is another low level set with the same issue.

Everything clips into each other in the game, lol, I hope they do something about it in the next game.

That jester line.
"I'd never violate his grace's privacy while he violates miladies privates!"

yea that line and the entire cutscene came together so well, arisen gasps and just slowly backs away while the duke strangles her just cracks me up.

Yea, I'm glad I started it on hardmode.

Lol I literally just realized I killed Maul and can't get his quest this run. I think that just pushed me over the edge..especially cause I want to do a mystic knight build now. Hrm. Kinda sucks losin all these rift crystals I got from people usin my pawn. =(

So.

I'm at The Final Battle main quest. Level 53.
I have done every sidequest I could, but I have some Notice Board quests left. Mainly getting a Snakeskin Purse (ugh), kill 2 Metal Golems (UGH), some gargoyles, 10 Geo Saurians, 3 From a Different Sky in the "last" zone (+ 2 others I can't get because they were only available during Deny Salvation >_<)

If I go and kill the last boss, will those stay in my log and will I be able to complete them in post-game?

Also, I read I get some weapons based on what I use during the last fight (Dragon's Breath for a magick bow for example).
Are those the same I'll get when dragonforging (with the Ur-Dragon/Wyrm/Wyvern/Drake)? Or are they unique as rewards for the quest?

Just use another profile so you don't have to delete your character, it's really no big deal what you miss and your build, outside of BBI, DD isn't really a long game, so restarting with different characters is actually fun, you could try a solo run too which feels like a complete different game.

As for Maul I think you could reset his "aggro" and spawn him again by resting 7 days.

I'm actually nearby at the beach from Barnaby's escort so I'll check in. If he's there I'll stick it out, if not I'll restart on hard.

1)Those quests should disappear if I'm not mistaken.

2)They're unique weapons from the quest.

I didn't say that I never did them. I was answering your question about doing escort quests before the Wyrm Hunt (which is literally level 10 - 12). When I said that I gave up on them, I was just talking about at that point in the game.
In DA however, they are essentially trivial. You can use a portcrystal on an escort and the escort will warp with you.

Ah, you said you gave up on them on your first playthrough so I thought you meant the entirety. Still, maybe I got to Gran Soren around level 10, but just from doing the few side quests they give I've leveled almost 20 times. I dunno..I just can't leave sidequests alone in games like these. Clearly Capcom put them in there and said here, do them if you can. So I will.

I originally bought the original Dragon's Dogma on release day last year. However, I never got around to playing it much. I went with a Warrior and Mage pawn. This time with Dark Arisen I am trying to switch it up and thought that a Magick Archer would be cool to do for an Female Elf character. But I after looking into the original I heard nothing but bad things about it. Additionally, I saw that you need to be a mage or sorcerer most of the time till lvl.200 to get the most out of Magick Archer. I really just want to play Magick Archer throughout the game but not be gimped.

Is the class better now? Do I still need to level up other classes to put up a fight?

Most classes have a "set". Doesn't necessarily mean it's the best for stats. They are all kind of close anyway though. I didn't think he was literally asking for the class specific sets.

Thanks for all the Assassin help guys, gives me something to aim for in the Everfall now. The game seems to be trolling me on these Holy Cuisses however, giving me everything in the loot table but them lol.

If you do, restart entirely. If you start hard mode with a high level character you'll barely notice any difference. The early game is where hard mode shines the most.

I thought hard mode was a complete wipe and new file? You can do hard mode using your current character and they retain their level?

I did every side quest available at the time before I moved on with the next story quest. Was glorious.

Yes. I'd recommend against it, though you'll get another big difficulty ramp up in postgame for sure.

I'll just stick it out with this char lol. Hopefully I can get Maul to respawn. Also, can't believe Gran Soren's theme on the OST is the same length as in the game. A travesty.

This game is so good. I've been playing mostly Sorceror and a bit of Magick Archer. Choosing a melee class is a completely different experience.

The quickest way to level up your vocation is using the guards trick, right? Even that felt incredibly slow if correct. Or am I supposed to do it by myself?

Edit: Just figured out I didn't turn my connectivity back on after
Ur Dragon
. Turns out someone used my pawn a bit. This is cool when you finally start seeing the RC pour in.

You don't have to do it. That would be extremely boring anyway. I don't really understand what you mean by "incredibly slow" though since it takes less than two hours to go from rank 1 to rank 9. It takes much longer by simply playing the game normally.

I hate the escort quests solely for the fact that after awhile they disappear from the Notice Boards, which basically means I leave them for a NG+ play so I can hit them soon as they're available.

I'm thinking doing it in a group is not how it works though, which is what I've been doing. It could just be that standing around waiting for more guards to spawn is monotonous.

I hit some weird sweet spot where between Soren and Cassardis I had like 8 escorts. The only one I seem to have missed out on is Reynard's - the one where you're like level 10 and it wants you go to across the world. But apparently it'll come back if I raise his affinity again? I dunno..we'll see..

If that's not how it works, it wouldn't have been recommended as much as it has. When I did it, I wasn't sitting there watching the screen the entire time. I quit after about five minutes and just shut the television off, checking every ten minutes if I wasn't wanting my character to actually level up while as that vocation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ztaVLMz8EY

To get the most DCP (whatever the actual vocation level xp is called) per kill, the XP gained has to be 100 or less. If you were to solo that, it would be even slower. The person who recorded that video seems to be using a three person group too, which is why he's getting 101 per kill.
Edit: Actually, nevermind. I didn't watch the video long enough to see that he has three pawns. He shouldn't be getting 101 regardless, unless it was different in vanilla. It's 80 - 85 in DA. Seeing that he does indeed have three casters, and it's taking them that long to kill anything makes me believe now more than ever that the three caster setup is inferior to the general Fighter/Ranger/Caster setup. The guards are just running around way too long in that video.

what the hell just happened...I was in BBI fighting that huge cyclops early on like literally the first big enemy you fight and after downing him I had to fight the cursed/undead dragon except he insta gibbed me when he was about to die so after going through the cyclops again the dragon just never showed up. Is that normal?

I most definitely did not know you could get to that place and not get hit at all. My whole life has been a lie :(.

Honestly I'd actually consider Magick Archer overpowered, so I wouldn't listen to any of those negative things. Every class has their own individual strengths and weaknesses. It's up to the player to decide which shortcomings they want to mitigate with the right set of pawns.

As far as optimizing your character growth to get the most out of your preferred class, just play the game to have fun and try not to worry too much about min/maxing. Equipment, augments, and items are just as important as stats. And playing as a sorc the whole game won't do much for your melee capability in terms of health or defense as Magick Archer--the sorc recommendation is mainly to maximize damage with magick bow skills.

I think most of the horror stories you've heard dealt with Magick Archer stat growth after level 100. It used to be really gross (with only one point in magic attack and some in mdef, nothing in regular def or attack), but Dark Arisen changed it to 10 hp/10 stm/1 atk/1 matk/0 def/2 mdef. Magick Bows are also stronger now.

Thanks!

Melee is awesome in this game. I love warriors. So satisfying...

That's also another reason that I said in an earlier post to stay away from casters that have spells that can bounce the guards up on the wall. They can actually live and kill you while you're away. Using a wakestone will prevent the xp loss, but it won't prevent the xp that you didn't gain all of the time you were away from the screen. To make this automatic and to prevent the system from going into screensaver mode, just set your pad upside down so that it spins the camera.

Well, at a certain point it's STILL not very likely because they'd likely be killed in short order by one of your pawns, but it is best to be safe. I favor pawns with Miasma for that, because it's just a death cloud they'll keep running into, but most people seem to have taken it off their pawns. Seems useful to me even on bigger monsters, maybe ESPECIALLY on them, persistent damage and they may even get poisoned.

Totally normal. The dragon and other enemies like the Garm only show up at random times after you have cleared an area. They are supposedly lured by the stench of the dead bodies you just created.

branny

I think they can also be lured to your dead body if you die and then use a wakestone. I've had that happen once unless it was a glitch, lol.

edit: It could've just been weird timing on a multi-monster death tbh.

Miasma is pretty amazing, it's a pity more people don't take advantage of it.

I'm so tempted to buy this on 360 but I wish there was a PC port of this.

I'm thinking a PC port may happen,or it may never happen. So I think I'll just take "the middle road" on this and wait for it. Wait for a PC port. If it is debunked, I'll just jump on DA :D.
