Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Yeah it didn't take long to work that Rook is crap (and his model is hilarious).

I have since taken a fighter and another mage. I'm thinking I'll take two fighters for a little while and then swap out to two mages (depending on what I have access too at the time) when my Strider is a little less.... one-shotty.

You may find that the Strider, while fun, is a bit more difficult to play. That was my first chosen class when the first DD came out, and I always ended up getting owned by Ogres and such...especially since the main was a female.

What I would recommend is find a friend on the googledoc with a higher level sorcerer and watch those lizards (and everything else) explode. And if you think the Rook model is hilarious (which it is), wait until you see the pawns other people have dreamed up. Some are kind of scary lol.

I almost lost it during one of the beginning cutscenes. Some dude with a massive head and a woll smoth face came yelling because the dragon was attacking or something.. I can't recall exactly... but the faces are Demon Soul's bad... maybe even worse haha.

Finally, after defeating Daimon for 40 times, I've completed the Oblivion set.

For now, my pawn will be using it (except the hood....she is to pretty), but tomorrow I will change the combo. Too many paws are using the Oblivion set and I want my pawn to look different.

Oh, and thanks to odd_morsel and Kyoufu for the RC. I will return the favor.

Well I ended up picking up Dark Arisen. Wasn't planning to but I want to see what BBI is about.
Is there anything in it like online Ur Dragon that requires community effort?

Not really, but the challenge is steep enough to keep you on your toes until about Lv.170 or so. I love the way they made the combat and dungeons - sort of Castlevania-ish.

I can't seem to make up my mind about whether I:

1. Make the Arisen bash-bash-bash-shoot-shoot and his pawn cast-cast-cast-cast-Boom!, or
2. Make the Arisen cast-cast-cast-cast-Boom! and his pawn bash-bash-bash-shoot-shoot.

I even restarted a level 35 file because fighting Golems really suck as Magic focused character >:\ But that magic-archer...... and pawns are so great looking in armors instead of robes....

Gah..........

I only have a level 200 character I was planning to use. :x

Did they do any class balancing?

Also is there a proper procedure to importing my character and getting the bonuses or is it pretty simple.

Beat Daimon ver 2 at level 102, so YMMV...

I agree, although ironically my MA was stuck wearing robes and a stupid looking Dragon Tiara thing (forget the name, but it gives me dragon wing ears), so he looks like a caster anyway. Regular golems aren't a big deal as a MA though. The only Golem type that was annoying was the magic, and only for that last amulet. I never had a staff on me then either, but I'm wondering if the unenchanted staff shots would be considered partially physical.

Did they do any class balancing?

Magick Archers no longer have to keep switching (or stay) as a Sorcerer during the character level up. The bows got buffed enough that they no longer really suck by just staying with MA the entire time.
I think I read that they also changed some of the post 100 stats on some of the classes, but I don't know what the alterations are.

I know that feel..agonized over restarting for the third time but I know in the end I made the right choice, especially the switch to hard mode. The rate I was going with normal mode I was going to be level 35 before I even started the wyrm hunts and I knew from then on it'd be easy mode.

Just make sure to backup your original DD save when you import and you should be fine. If you see an eternal ferrystone in your inventory, it worked.

The crazy thing is, now I even considering to keep my Arisen back as a Magic-focused character even though that's the reason I restarting in the first place.

Can't seem to make up my mind. Now I am stuck right at the beginning with the Arisen still staring at that desk to choose which class to start, hahaha. How's MA in Dark Arisen?

I just hate that there is a specific enemy that thoroughly screwed magic focused character like the Golems and *especially* Metal Golems. What's your setup btw?

I mean, even early on you come in contact with phantoms that can only be touched by magic. There's plenty of give and take with all that stuff. If you know you're goin against some golems, you switch up your job or switch up your pawns' jobs. One enemy isn't worth scrappin an entire char lol, but. I gave up a level 30 ranger with mage pawn cause I felt ranged was a bit one dimensional for me.. goin a mystic knight perfect block build with a ranger pawn (a copy of my first char). If my perfect block for healing idea works, I won't even run a mage in the group.

Due to the layout of BBI, the class feels like god-mode most of the time. All of the bows were buffed between 55% - 60%.

Sorcerers have no problems with regular golems, although I never fought a metal version with Exequy to see if it worked the same (I think Bolide can actually kill the regulars too due to it being partially physical). I have no idea what your issue is with a regular golem as a MA is though. You have daggers...

The beauty of the DD series is that you can change your vocation anytime. I believe worldrevolution only restarted due to switching to hard mode, which can only be done by starting a new game.

This may sound weird... well, it IS weird, I guess... But I am kind of OCD about 'consistency'. If my Arisen begins as a bash-bash-shoot-shoot character, it just feels 'wrong' for me to transform him into a magic-based character anytime in the game. Yes, the game allows you to do it, but it is just something I wouldn't do. I am weird that way, hahaha.

The same reason I never edit my Arisen's or Main Pawn's entire appearance using the transformation item too.

I'm not sure if I have any spare USBs to back it up to.

Maybe backup to a cloud then? I only recommend this due to hearing a lot of people fubared their original DD save with the recent patch. Upon importing some people lost everything they had accomplished in the vanilla game and had to start over (unless they had a backup save and are waiting for a fix). Without a backup, proceed with caution.

True, but I also restarted for better stat allocation and to not be overleveled for the main quest. If I had naturally done MK with that char I woulda been like level 50 by the time I started playin it and by then what's the point. I'm not goin for perfect minmax or anything but I do enjoy building my chars a certain way.

Banana, what you just wrote about consistency, YEP me too lol. Same way. I editted in my build idea above.

Yeah, but you start as a fighter, then go assassin, then strider, then magick archer, then you end up as a mage. ta-da, consistency

Okay, i've basically loved everything in this game up until now:

I took a notice board quest to escort that armor wearing lady who brought the basilisk head to Grand Sorin. So, going the only way I thought we could to get to the destination marker took us into a cave / dungeon under a waterfall called The Watergod's Altar.

We eventually fought this cyclops and killed it and had nowhere to go. I then hit the internet and found out that it seems you have to have a certain quest activated to get all the way through this cave.

I don't see any other way through this cave / dungeon unless I missed something. Water seems to be blocking my progress forward.

If I really can't do this other quest OR completely clear this dungeon unless I have a specific quest active, I REALLY hope I don't keep running into road blocks in this game cause I dont have "the right quest" active...

Nahhh...

It's just weird in my mind that an Arisen that is trained in bashing/shooting stuff suddenly wants to learn magics and the like. Like I said, it feels inconsistent >___>

Wuuuut?

Her destination is not the Watergod's Altar. It's Shadowfort Fortress, and it's like, so far away from it, hahahaha.

I don't recall The Watergod's Altar having a second exit, even after the water is drained. You're going the wrong way.

IIRC, Mercedes wants to go to the Shadow Fort. Go back to the Southern Waycastle and back to the encampment (where you first met Mercedes and fought the Hydra), then go west past the Witchwood and the bandit fort. Alternatively, you can fight your way through the quarry outside Gran Soren.

I never went through a cave to finish that quest. It was all over land.

Take a left after the encampment near Cassardis, hike the mountain up, go down, and go right, then follow the road there. Later turn right, hike back up, and follow the path on the forest.

OR.. if you have cleared the Ancient Quarry just go through it from Gran Soren for a much easier time.

I think you more than likely accepted the Water God quest right after taking on the escort mission since you get them from the same NPC. Sometimes that will change your quest marker to the last quest you picked up.

Normally I wouldn't use strat guides but in this case it has been so incredibly helpful with maps, detailed quests, etc...it really is a nice tome to have on this journey (and has saved me from a handful of headaches).

Does anyone know how the Cursed Dragon DF'ing works? After I kill one I usually get a bunch of stuff DF'ed even if it's completely stock (no stars).

It's not a guarantee like the Grigori but the rate seems really high.

Just fought my way through the Witch wood with Rook and my Pawn Callisto. Dat atmosphere...

I don't like that they make us fight enemies that can only be harmed by magic though. =/ The fights in the wood took way longer than it should have because only Rook is a mage caster. Still, the battles were pretty damn fun!

This game has me by the balls.

Um, so, I had no clue sorc pawns would try to copy the spells you're casting. Wow. That kind of changes a lot.

Double High Bolide FTW. Or Double High Maelstrom.

Although sadly it doesn't hasten up the chanting time for the 1st person doing the chanting, only the one that joins.

And Double Sorcerer/Sorceress will be thrown around like helpless ragdolls the moment a giant club or teeth comes in.

Wait you're still using Rook? Unless you're deliberately challenging yourself you gotta switch up with new pawns, they only level if they're from other active players, and even then you gotta kick them out and summon them back. I only bothered to keep two non-player ones on my favorites list because they both have Suasion for selling stuff, and every time I'm done I throw them away, literally.

I'd skip that shit for now if it's frustrating you or run past them, you can get wakestones elsewhere. That room is such a mess.

Edit: oh gore cyclopse. Thought you were in the everfall. If it's the place I think it is, see if you can leave the cyclopse chained, snipe the sorcerers from the second floor and try to lure the garm one by one up top.

Is it possible to finish the game with only you and your main pawn I wonder?

Well, main game is probably possible, but don't know about Everfall or Dark Arisen's new content.

Believe you can also just toss your main pawn off a cliff and go it completely alone. Just don't touch a rift stone or anything and they wont come back.

Nope, just my main pawn and rook. We're escorting someone, don' know if that counts?

Is it known if hired pawns still get RC after deaths like that? Too many good hires take the plunge off cliffs while riding elder ogres, or just Death visiting.

In vanilla DD I frequently had mine come back with just RC as I recall, no ratings PR gifts, so I hope so.

Yeah, you probably are making it harder for yourself. Rook also doesn't level with you as for as I know. You have to keep hiring new pawns from the rift stone to match your levels. You could also rock a mage and sorcerer pawn if you wanted. They probably have access to better spells then Rook.

I don't see why they wouldn't.
