Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen PC |OT| Wolves hunt in 4K

I finally remembered to have Shadowplay running while I played. Here's a few gifs of me getting rekt in BBI:

https://gfycat.com/ThunderousGargantuanAfghanhound

https://gfycat.com/TalkativeLimitedGordonsetter

https://gfycat.com/NegativeAlertAsiaticlesserfreshwaterclam

Deaths are the funniest part of this game. Getting sent flying by a cyclops never stops being hilarious.

I also had a great one of me destroying an Elder Ogre with Ricochet Hunter, but stupid Gfycat cut off the end, which was the best part.

Thanks for the feedback. The character isn't updates there as I mentioned. She is Level 125 with utilitarian > medicant as inclinations. Got her some potions yesterday before tackling NG plus.

No problem. Once I researched inclinations and set the optimal ones on my pawn, I got way more RC from people renting her.

Oh man I remember that 3th gif on reddit Dragon dogma sub a couple days ago. Gotta love it!

I think the Fighter class is really underrated. It very well might be my favorite melee class in the game and I say that as someone who rarely likes sword and shield classes in RPGs. They have the most melee offensive abilities slots to equip, they have great jumping attacks. Blocking/perfect blocking provides great defense.

The one thing I do not like about the dagger classes is that switching between daggers and the bow is actually kind of clunky and that's a word I almost never like to use. It's just very slow and ackward and once you actually get in bow stance it works very well but I just wish you could switch between the two a lot quicker.

I finally figured out why I'm not enjoying the warrior vocation as much as the other ones, no secondary skills.

Why would they do this? All other vocations can have six skills slotted. I understand there might be some sort of compromise for balance, warrior having the most powerful melee weapons with great swings that hit everything in an AOE, but the vocation is already counterbalanced with very slow attack speed and no ranged capability.

Yeah, it would have been nice if they at least gave the Warrior a crossbow or something. With that said their normal attacks are very good though.

...

What...? Oh god, how did... Holy shit.

TIL you can kick the cow in Off With Its Head to get it to sprint ahead instead of waiting for its slow-ass walking speed.

It loses health when you kick it, and at low health it stops running.

So I kept healing it back up by pestering my mage for an Anodyne while standing in front of the carriage. Healing it up, kicking it down, all the way to Gran Soren.

It didn't feel right :|

After doing numerous runs through BBI as a Sorcerer, Magick Archer, and Ranger, I believe Magick Archer is the best vocation. Sixfold Bolt (ice) is strong against many of BBI's most troublesome monsters: Gorecyclops, Saurians, Hellhounds, Banshees, Eliminators, Living Armor, Firedrakes, and Daimon's first form. Hunter Bolt (holy) is strong against Death and Daimon's second form, even being able to stagger-lock the latter. Explosive Rivet (fire) is good against basically anything that the other two skills aren't -- it's especially effective against Frostwyrms, which were the bane of my existence as a Sorcerer. Ricochet Hunter (lightning) is also very strong, especially against Elder Ogres, but I prefer Explosive Rivet overall.

In other news, I'm not a big fan of the purification system. I'd really like to be able to choose the items I get, through gathering materials or whatever. This lottery-based shit is getting really tiresome. I've gotten so many useless rings in my attempts to purify a Staff Enchanter's Ring with Holy Pact.

I agree. =)

The Fighter class is very strong. Dragon's Maw is probably the best melee skill in the game. The reason it might be "underrated" is that people often prefer the Assassin vocation because of the option to use a bow, which comes in really handy when facing certain enemies (like Metal Golems). And Assassins can also use shields, so it's kinda the best of both worlds.

I've never had an issue with switching between daggers and bow. I use the Mouse5 button for secondary skills, which also activates bow mode.

Yeah that was a really unfortunate design choice. Warrior is tied with Mage for my least-favorite vocation.

However, a Warrior pawn armed with the Stamina Hammer is the best tank in the game. So there's that.

Nice!

Id like to thank my Framae Daggers and Rusted Bow for Daimon farming.

After 159 hours in this game I'm beginning to run out of steam. There's not much left for me to do. The main thing is acquiring all the skill augmenting rings, but that gets extremely tedious with the gambling purification system.

I made this guide for my own purposes, but maybe some of you will find it useful too. Consider it a final gift to this OT from me. It's a trimmed-down version of this excellent guide from GameFAQs. I circled the relevant chests using my pro MS Paint skills, to make them easier to find.

I assume most of you know this already, but in case you don't know what Godsbaning is:

- Save the game in front of a chest
- Open the chest
- If you don't get the item you want, kill yourself with Godsbane and reload the save
- Repeat until you get the desired item

-----

I. Leg 1 of BBI (starting in Bitterblack Isle Harbor)

1. Run through Garden of Ignominy to Duskmoon Tower.

2. From Duskmoon Tower enter Ward of Regret:

- Godsbane Chest #3 (you need a Skeleton Key to access it) until you get Gear 3.
- Grab the Skeleton Key in Chest #7 if you want.
- Godsbane Chest #10 until you get Gear 3.

3. Continue to Midnight Helix:

- Godsbane Chest #8 until you get Armor 3.
- Godsbane Chest #13 until you get Armor 3.

4. Exit with a Liftstone.

II. Leg 2 of BBI (starting in Corridor of Emptiness)

0. There's no level 3 drops in Leg 2. Sad!!

III. Leg 3 of BBI (starting in Corridor of the Hallowed)

1. Run through Rotwood Depository to The Forgotten Hall:

- Godsbane Chest #9 until you get Armor 3.
- Godsbane Chest #15 until you get Gear 3.
- Godsbane Chest #16 until you get Novelty 3.

2. Continue to The Bloodless Stockade:

- Godsbane Chest #4 until you get Gear 3.
- I forgot to circle it, but there's a Skeleton Key lying on the table in the room that contains Chest #6. Grab it if you want.
- Chest #12 has a rare chance for Weapon 3. Not worth Godsbaning IMO.
- Chest #15 has Gear 3 as an uncommon drop. Worth Godsbaning for me, since I'm desperate...

3. Continue to Sparyard of Scant Mercy:

- Chest #5 contains Weapon 3, Gear 3, and Novelty 3 drops. Godsbane until you get the one you want.
- Chest #6 contains Armor 3, Gear 3, and Novelty 3 drops. Godsbane until you get the one you want.

4. Continue to The Fallen City:

- Chest #13 has a rare chance for Armor 3. Not worth Godsbaning IMO.
- Chest #19 has a rare chance for Weapon 3. Not worth Godsbaning IMO.
- Chest #10 contains Armor 3. Godsbane or jump off the cliff (which is a slightly faster way to kill yourself).

5. Continue to Bitterblack Sanctum and put the smackdown on Daimon:

- Chest #1 has a high chance of dropping Weapon 3.
- Chest #3 has a high chance of dropping Armor 3.
- Chest #4 has a high chance of dropping Novelty 3.
(Definitely still save before you open them, because sometimes they drop Rift Crystals.)

Done. Time to purify!

To reset BBI chests:
- Go to Cassardis
- Recommended: Go to Options and set game to Offline mode (to shorten the next step)
- Run to Pablos' Inn and sleep 6 times
- Go back to Options and set to Online mode
- Return to BBI and farm it all over again!

-----

Special Thanks:
to Orianna_ of GameFAQs for the awesome guide.
to The Dragon's Dogma Wiki for the great maps.

This game has its hooks in me. What a fantastic PC port. Has Capcom ever explained why Dragon's Dogma Online was kept to Japan only?

They are making a mistake if Dragon's Dogma 2 will never be a thing.

Just didn't sell enough outside of Japan and Capcom aren't in position to try again.

Probably only got the PC port cos MT framework's had a lot of PC releases.

This probably includes a lot of discounted sales, and a humble/monthly bundle. But on Steam alone it sold almost 700k copies without any advertising, years after its original release on PS3. Source: https://steamdb.info/app/367500/graphs/

Before I finally get Dark Arisen on the PC, how well do y'all think it will run on my PC?

Windows 10 Home
6th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-6400 Processor
8 GB DDR4 memory
128 SSD + 1 TB HDD storage
4gb Radeon™ RX 480 Graphics Card

I want to do 1080p at 60fps hopefully. Played the game endlessly on PS3.

Mt framework runs well even on toasters, your machine will do 1080p/60fps easy.

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to start the adventure over again! This time in glorious non-poor resolution and framerate!

Dragon's Dogma is a very special game to me, and even though its not that old I am still nostalgic about playing it for the first time.

Its just a wonderful game in every sense. The fast paced, dynamic combat (like the character action games I idolize), placed into a mythic fantasy open world. Its one of those games that feel like they were made for me.

Not only that - but there are few fantasy games that can capture the old school swords and sorcery atmosphere without seeming derivative or generic. Dragon's Dogma is one of those.

EDIT:

Like this classic Dungeons and Dragons artwork
versus this generic Blizzard-like fantasy art

Haha, I literally just reinstalled this yesterday. I'm sure my pawn hasn't gotten used since launch.

Just got this on GOG. I played quite a bit of it on PS3... Can't remember how far I got it exactly but I'd been at the main city for a while. Is there any way I could get a save file that's at least a few hours into the game?

Savegame tool I made for converting savegames from 360/PS3 to PC: http://www.tzarsectus.com/tools/DDsavetool.rar

You can also unpack and repack saves to/from XML with it. Read the readme.txt for usage information. When converting savegame from console to PC, you'll also need a PC savegame (it reads your steam id from the PC savegame and adds it to the converted savegame). Getting your savegame file from console might be a small hassle, but I'm sure anyone who really wants to convert their savegame are familiar with copying save files from xbox or ps3.

There's a limitation that you have to be using a console Dark Arisen savegame when converting; it can't be an original Dragon's Dogma save.

If you converted a savegame with v1.0 of this tool from xbox to PC and you're experiencing problems going online in the game. Use this command "DDAsavetool -reset DDDA.sav" to reset online pawn data which will fix this issue. Any saves converted from v1.1 and forward should not have this problem.

Example of converted save:
Xbox: http://abload.de/img/2016-01-15_18-00-51ffs1v.jpg
PC: http://abload.de/img/ddda2016-01-1517-56-49vs4x.jpg

You can find your PC savegame at \\Steam\userdata\[steamuserid]\367500\remote\DDDA.sav

The tool requires VS2008 C++ runtime libraries to be installed: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29

Source code for save tool: http://www.tzarsectus.com/tools/source/DDsavetool.rar

EDIT: Holy shit never mind found this. Amazing!

So I beat the main story, well
I unlocked the full extent of the Everfall
, I'm level forty-three or four I think? I went to BBI and got wrecked after 40 mins or so. Reading the OP it says level 50-70 is ideal for that area so my question is. Where do I go to level up?
I tried to fight a tentacled eyeball in the Everfall and got destroyed there too.

Guys I really need help I put the game down and now I want to finish it. I am playing on hard and 55 hours played so far. Now I am back and completely lost as I was trying to make sure not to mess everything up on my first playthrough.
I was following this google spreadsheet for progress and I currently have this quests in my log:

  • Farewell, Valmiro
  • Supplier's Demand
  • Witch Hunt
  • Rise of the Fallen
  • The Absent Apprentice
  • Suppression
  • Burden of Proof
  • From a Different Sky 7
  • Reveille Revelry
  • A Lost Cause
  • Foreign Service
  • Witch's Brew
  • Ocean's Bounty
  • A Taste to be Acquired
  • Search Party
  • From a Different Sky 6
  • From a Different Sky 4
  • From a Different Sky 3
  • From a Different Sky 2
  • From a Different Sky 1
  • Extermination
  • Slumbering Promise
  • Dousing the Blight
  • A Guiding Light
  • Set Against the Dead
  • Evil Underfoot

So I don't know what I was doing or where I am on the spreadsheet (even if I did mark it)..total blank over here.

That's a long list you've got there lol.
From a Different Sky is just finding the collectable marked on the map. There are 100 of them, and some are missable, so I wouldn't worry about them. Just wait until NG+ if you want to do it.

Do you know what main quest you're up to, or did last?

A lot of those seem like the DLC quests added with Dark Arisen, or generic noticeboard collect/kill X amount of a thing, or escort an NPC. Just make sure you do every main sidequest at least. The ones that I've put in bold are definitely the main sidequests, so definitely do those, as you'll get locked out of some of them if you continue the main quest.

I've not played it in 3 years, so there may be a couple of others there that you should do ASAP, but I think that's all of them. The rest will just come along naturally for the most part.

Pretty sure these are the main (side) quests:

  • Talent in Bloom
  • Supplier's Demand (M)
  • Idol Worship (C) @
  • An Innocent Man
  • Witch Hunt
  • Mettle Against Metal
  • The Dragon's Tongue
  • The Conspirators
  • Nameless Terror
  • A Parting Gift
  • Rise of the Fallen
  • Arousing Suspicion
  • Farewell, Valmiro
  • Supply and Demands

I think I finished Come to court maybe...

Those escort quests are brutal. I still remember my first time in the game and attempting quests that involved traipsing out into the wilderness. Fun times, heh.
