Dragon's Dogma Online revealed - PS3/PS4/PC, MMO-ish, F2P, 4-player parties

What i can see beeing awesome are the boss fights with 4 ppl because of the unique approach of DD boss fights with grabs/climbing.

Eager to hear more on this. Liked what I played of Dragon's Dogma, but couldn't get past the horrible frame rate, black bars, and load times.

I'm still coming to terms with the fact that people consider PSO to be an MMO though.

Does F2P mean no subscription fee, but still a fee for the disc/download

or no subscription fee, as well as no fee for the base game?

Yay, if it's the fist, but boo, if it's the second (which is likely the case).

-Though paid items are present, the game will still feel like a proper Dragon’s Dogma game.

Let's hope.

-The story is completely new and there are no character connections. (Editor’s note: We take it this means no character connections to the previous game.)

It's a bit of a pipe dream at this point but I do hope they improve on the story telling, the first game had some really cool ideas marred by a nonexistent narrative.

Sound fun but Capcom + F2p = No thx

For those people complaining about F2P:

I for one am going to probably drop around $60 in Microtransactions on this game, if it's fun enough. If that's what it takes to "unlock" the game, i am completely fine with it, since that's what i would have (happily) paid if they went with a traditional model.

And the kid who instead spends $80 or $100 will still have more stuff and an advantage over you

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Please be good. Please don't be the worst implementation of F2P.

Why is Capcom banking so heavily on F2P? This is the end of Capcom, no doubt, but at least we'll get another Dragon's Dogma out of them I guess?

That is such a non argument, because the kid that doesn't have a fulltime job and a family has the exact same advantage over me as well, not just in stuff, but also in experience.

At last the MT will level the playing field a little if i wish to play it "competitively"

An advantage over you in co-op? Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of P2W or gameplay-affecting microtransactions in general, but they strike me as more of a "spoiling your own fun" sort of thing when they're not being used against other players.

Yeah its really not a big deal in co op.

Who knows. Its hard to say how nasty the microtransactions will

Capcom does have a rough track record though..

What does cross play have to do with it? MS just made a big deal about cross play at their Windows 10 event.

Yeah between only Xbox & PC

If crossplay exists between PC/PS4/PS3 just like FF14 I wouldn't hold my breath. There is a reason why FF14 is not out on xbox

As exciting as it sounds, this is Capcom we are talking about. They are bound to put in some of the worst kind of microtransaction in, with no way to simply get rid of payment prompts and cooldowns or some shit like that, no matter how much money you put into it.

I really, really hope I'm wrong, though. DD is one of my favourite games ever, almost perfectly blending action with RPG elements and open world exploration.

Black bars and load times? What version were you playing? Mine didn't have black bars and the load times didn't seem excessive.

No DD + Dark Arisen Definitive Edition for current-gen and PC, and DDOnline is exclusive to Japan (for now). That Capcom hype train sure didn't last long.

Except raid and mercenaries are completely self contained and aren't strung together by a larger narrative. If you're already conceding the idea that a F2P DD can't even have anything resembling its original structure, then of course you'd be more open to the idea.

Different reasons, of course. DDO seems like a logical move since the only thing missing from the original was online coop play (I also wished the more MMO-like variety of encounters they seem to be pointing to). Factoring this, an online only game with content updates seems to fit in the equation. Also, don't see why the GGO couldn't have a narrative like the originals (that weren't exactly memorable in this anyway).

You must have played a special version because both PS3 and 360 versions had black bars.

The only long load time was from boot up to loading your save file.

I think people mention cross play as a reason because it's assumed and so far, That MS has been against having Xbox players playing with Playstation & PC users.

Oh I'm not holding my breath at all. But I doubt the reason that it isn't coming to Xbox is cross play. If Capcom was finally going to self fund one of their titles this gen I doubt it would be Dragon's Dogma.

So, when they announce that this game is coming to the west, you won't believe them?

If now they say they have no plans, then it's confirmed?

The only official statement is that they have no plans to bring it to the west despite any possible trademark registration. So, yea, i don't trust them.

Depends as far as we have heard Xbox crossplay is only going to be on W10. I doubt capcom would want to support crossplay for ps3, ps4, pc and then a set of servers for only Xbox and W10. They want every system to use the same servers ensuring the largest user base per server and platform agnostic accounts allowing people to play from any system they choose.

If Capcom is smart they will do it like Guild Wars 2 where you just pay for cosmetics and other random stuff that doesn't break the game.

I doubt this is staying Japan only. Home consoles and PCs aren't exactly extremely popular over there like they are in the west.
