Dragon's Dogma Online revealed - PS3/PS4/PC, MMO-ish, F2P, 4-player parties

For those people complaining about F2P:

I for one am going to probably drop around $60 in Microtransactions on this game, if it's fun enough. If that's what it takes to "unlock" the game, i am completely fine with it, since that's what i would have (happily) paid if they went with a traditional model.

The mobile F2P market is quite different from other platforms and what this thread is continuing to show me is that people are quite badly informed of this and instead of understand and giving the benefit of the doubt the enthusist gamer finds it easier to say, "No thanks" rather than to be intelligent about the prospect.

I mean it doesn't bother me, I enjoy free to play games and have had a lot of good times with free to play games. I just wish the hardest of the core "gamerzzz" were more intelligent than this but I don't expect it anymore.

A lot of the reaction is knee-jerk, but it's really a vocal minority. Most are fine with it so long as its fair, like Warframe, DOTA, etc.

People are overreacting but Warframe is the last game I'd use to show a good F2P example.

Its been top 10 on Steam all year(2014 and now 15) consistently, Its the best example :)

Could use PSO2, PoE and more. Plenty of F2P to choose from.

don't forget to make them a child too because ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

on the other hand, my pawn was a big buff lady named archer who was actually a warrior who got hired a ton

My pawn was a big fat loof, but at least he could carry all those damn Water God Altar slabs.

Well, it's not Dragons Dogma 2 but I'll keep an open mind and give it a go on PS4. Bit strange having both this and deep down but ok.

As long as they keep the core game intact I can't see how F2P could go horribly wrong, unless they completely goof with the pricing model (I really hope they don't). As other people have said, Guild Wars 2 is F2P and it's pretty damn good. F2P isn't automatically a black mark.

That said, I am wondering how exactly they're going to MMO-ify it. If they mean grinding and loads of kill stuff quests? Sign me up. The core gameplay of DD is so fun to me that I wouldn't care if the entire game was kill quests, it would still be amazing. Seriously guys, WE COULD HAVE MORE GRYPHON FIGHTS.

Edit: Waaaait a minute, misread something on Twitter. So it's not literally just Dragon's Dogma with online? Hmm. Hmmmmmm. I still have faith if it plays like DD. Honestly, how it plays is all that matters to me at this point. A new world/setting etc just makes this even better!

I haven't read the replies or gauged the temperature here on this yet, but having just learned the news seconds ago I feel... grossed out.

that said I'll totally play it and hope for the best. dragon's dogma is my third favorite game of last gen, behind only dark souls and TLOU

I loved what I played of Dragon's Dogma but it was clear the technology couldn't keep up with what Capcom wanted to make. Now here's the sequel and it's cross-gen? On top of that, its a free-to-play MMO? So disappointed. Of course I'll give it a shot, but this sounds like the complete opposite of what I wanted from a Dragon's Dogma sequel.

I did try to put this image in every thread since the name was trademarked as a warning. Capcom basically told us they would do this.

There was a second quote about more console f2p games from the same call.

Ha ha, same here. I just got up, read the news and then thought of The Matrix scene with Switch :p

Hopefully it will still come to North America, and be well designed though.

Well, this might be better than no sequel, but changing the world/ setting to fit online is disappointing. I like the original and found it intriguing, the story just wasn't executed well.

Will be playing on PC, unless the f2p aspect is too disgusting.

Scans make this look like Monster Dogma Frontier or something. Dunno how I feel about this but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Well its four man online action.

It really comes down to how nasty the monetization is....

Otherwise the gameplay should be fantastic if it uses the old game as a base.

Plays like Dragons Dogma?

I AM SO IN.

F2P doesn't really bother me as long as its done somewhat well, especially since I live and die these days by League/Dota.
