DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

PS+ version is all the marketing the game needs. No youtube video or TV advert will sell the game more than a free sample that is immediately accessible. The demo for FH2 has done wonders for the game. I know a lot of people who are buying it it just because of it. If this game is any good, the PS+ version will sell it. If it isn't good, the PS+ version will destroy it since no one will bother purchasing the full version. It's a risk/reward situation.

There will be one for sure. Probably next week

Good point. I wonder how many people access PS+ and actually download the games. It's be nice to know download numbers.

Also, I wish there was some non PS+ version of the game for people to demo, as making it PS+ only may take away some sales.

The game is on ps plus many people will be able to access it.

If there is indeed a TV spot, then I'd be very happy. Just some exposure to a wider audience...I just hope the ad emphasizes the in-game graphics, weather, and social features. Graphics are the easiest way to quickly impress someone and there's no reason Driveclub shouldn't be using that to their advantage.

The release of this will be interesting at the very least because of this. It will be tough to figure out if this game is a success or not unless it just takes off. I think Sony and Evolution are hoping this will drive Plus Subs, DLC sales, and of course full game sales.

A lot of that is not going to show up in NPD.

I think they should of released a demo prior to release. I think there will be a lot of people that download the demo and don't buy the game.

As opposed to people forgetting about the game if there was too much time in between demo and release. Where as...if they like the game they can upgrade for a small discount?

The demo would surely be smaller than what we're getting with the pS+ deal.

So Sony will market this game by giving people a Demo.

I guess.

Setting aside the "demo" thing, what's wrong with that? If the game is good, giving people the chance to try it out for free seems like pretty good marketing to me. If it isn't good and the PS+ version sours people on the game, then it would have deserved to flop anyway.

I would vastly prefer free demos for everything over advertising campaigns.

I think they should of released a demo prior to release. I think there will be a lot of people that download the demo and don't buy the game.

Why? If anything, people will be more inclined to buy the full game after immediately playing the demo due to being hyped as fuck and immediately being able to upgrade to the full version at a discount (if they enjoyed it, that is). Why would someone be more inclined to buy the full game at a later date after playing a demo, as opposed to playing a demo that releases at the same time as the full game?

Exactly.

It's a specific response to a post that several people in the discussion thought was off-base and simplistic. The poster has also been taking part in the thread. Their last comment was recommending a highly-positive OT title. Do you honestly think it was a drive-by concern post? Do you know what that phrase means?
You not allowed to post unless you part of the group it seems or excited for the other game. That's how I read that post. Extremely stupid. I normally avoid posting as I prefer lurking, but AgentP, dude....

does anyone know if PS+ edition players will be able to participate side by side with full retail players? I'm a day 1 full retail purchaser, and like the idea of having as deep of an online player base as possible (so it would be great if both versions are compatible online).

Having cars in a racing game is a "gimmick"?

wut

Variety is a...gimmick for racing games?

I don't mean gimmick in a negative connotation. The massive amount of cars has always been GT's thing. What other racing franchises besides Gran Turismo have thousands of cars? Only Forza comes close, because from the outset it has been trying to replicate GT's success. It's their thing, it's what differentiates them.

Back when GT first came out it was frequently referred to as a Car RPG or the racing equivalent to Pokemon in large part due to the customization and the incredible number of cars that it had.

SSX gets it.

Holy shit, Greg and Colin (rather obnoxiously) tear this game a new asshole in the latest Beyond podcast. Someone writes in essentially asking "Do you think DriveClub could be the first killer-app for the PS4," and Greg just starts laughing hysterically while Colin states that it's being sent to die, the delay has had a negative effect and Sony shouldn't have funded another realistic racer when they've got Gran Turismo.

I don't agree at all. I think this game's fortunes are at their best right now.

Edit - If you want to hear it, it starts at about 46.30. And after re-listening, the question is more specifically "Do you think that DriveClub has the potential to be the PS4's first unmissable title?"

Sounds like someone who has no intention of playing Gran Turismo or any other racing game!

"Why are they making a racing game they've already got a whole one other on their console!"

I would imagine they're all playing on the same servers - the PS+ should be able to just lock tracks and cars.

The game is now up for preorder on EU PSN too and it's damn cheap for my country standards.

The PS+ upgrade is DKK314.99 ~ £33

I hope it's not a price error.

I wouldn't call GT's car list a gimmick, but the garage and collection aspect is a large feature and big selling point.

I agree that DC doesn't seem to have a "hook" like some of the others.

GT: Massive car catalogue, realistic physics and simulation driving
Forza Horizon: Open world offroad racing
Forza: Slightly more arcadey GT-esque track racer, heavy on car customization

DC...social/club racing? It will be interesting to see if/how it separates itself from the other franchises. Regardless it still looks like a very competent racer

ppl cant wait to run their Ferrari's through fields.... must have feature.

I'm under the impression that it's basically a "yes," and they'll just sit it out in the lobbies when a track comes up that they don't have access to.

That's actually a pretty good price. But I really want that steelbook though...

It seems like Sony have started on making some reasonably price tags for their first party games. I believe TLOU was 349 DKK when it came out, which was cheaper than physical.

Didn't we (gaming community) do this whole thing with Forza 5 and NBA2K15 where everyone realized that they should assign reviewers to games of genres they're intimately familiar with? Or was that a really small movement? Or did I just make that up.

I remember when I was offered some freelance review work with IGN years ago for the PSP. I was really eager to do it, signed some contracts, but when I got the list of some games they were sending my way I saw some JRPGs on there. I asked, hey, I know literally NOTHING about RPGs other than Zelda: OOT, I know even less about JRPGs, I really really don't like playing them, so what do I do? They told me to just do the best job I could.

I ended up doing some interviews and UMD reviews instead (hah, those were fun days) but man I was scared out of my mind in the idea of reviewing something I was completely unfamiliar with. Thankfully it never came to that.

Things have obviously changed since then...I assume. I hope.

Funny considering how Forza 5 was this killer app type game at the X1 launch. And really, is an offroad racing game really special these days?

There's a very special off-road open world racing game releasing on November 18th. I can't wait for Driveclub though, even though I'll be so shit at it I daren't even join a club.

PS+ version is all the marketing the game needs.

Photo mode and Facebook/Twitter shares are going to sell this game as well.

This is true, and why the game won't become Sony's Forza. Nobody outside of the racing game community and GAF really care about DC. That doesn't mean it won't be great but it's not going to set any sales records.

That's a good point, I hope it's true. Evolution deserves success, they're a great team.
Sony already has GT. GT5 alone has sold more than every Forza realised combined.

I bet this game gets "saved" by Europe. Remember in the PS3's early years where first party titles would barely register as a blimp on the NPD, but would seemingly go on to sell a few million copies worldwide? That was Euroland doing the heavy lifting. I think Driveclub will get that same treatment.

It should do well in Europe having 2 PS4 bundles doesn't hurt either.

Sony should do an Apple and U2 this game onto every single PS4 without asking.

Oh, so they've lowered it?

Yup. And I got a tweet for this PSN top up which technically lowers it even further

http://www.cdkeys.com/playstation-network-psn/psn-cards/playstation-network-card-35-ps-vita-ps3?

Yay! I might actually go this route then. £43 was way too much but £35 is okay. Still could be very slightly cheaper to cement that decision, though.

Apparently with the top up, you can now buy it £28.93

I have no way to verify this. So please correct me if I understood it wrong.

I legitimately think the PS+ Edition should be pre-loaded on every piece of hardware they sell (considering they come with a free month of PS+ already).

That is a neat idea.

It comes up on the site as £30.45, but there's a banner at the top saying 'like us on fb for an additional 5% off' which would bring it to £28.93. Even without that extra 5% off (haven't used fb in several months, can't be bothered returning temporarily to 'like' a page) £30.45 for Driveclub is a good deal for me, so thank you for posting this dude! :)

cheers viveks86, have just tried this and pre-ordered for £28.93, a lot less than I was expecting to have to pay!
Oh, do you need to do the fb thing to get the extra discount to or is there another promotion?

That was with the facebook discount, I have a dummy account set up for these kind of offers
