Dust 514 |OT| You don't need to pay to win

I see. So what I've written above is completely wrong? Both sides always start with the same number of clones?
Regarding the number of clones in a battles, the only limitation is that the attacking team must use at least 150 clones. The defender has however many were left on the district. If the attacker wins by MCC destruction, then the defender will lose 150 clones. The defender can lose more if their players keep fighting and dying. If the attacker loses the battle then all of the clones they moved to the district will be destroyed.

If you don't own any districts, then you need to by a Genolution clone pack for 80 million ISK. This contains 150 clones and you'll have to keep on buying packs until you capture a district.

To see the PC mechanics in more detail, it's best to read the wiki page: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Planetary_Conquest

I feel like this should be one of the most interesting games of all time except without anyone paying attention to it.

It's hard to imagine that whatever Bungie is cooking up with Destiny will come anywhere close to this sort of massive scale.

I played this last night for the first time. The world seems interesting, but the gameplay appeared to be very standard fare. I'll give it a few more shots, but seems passable.

Ok, you've got me interested.

A lot of the interesting stuff is too obscure. How do I get in on Planetary Conquest for example, or Faction Warfare? All I've been doing is jumping into matchmade games. The Mercenary and Corporation battle list is almost always empty, and when a match does show up it's only briefly and it's always full.

I imagine most people who try it are going to have the same experience.

update few weeks ago really improved the game and it is fun to play. Havent spent a dime and have good games where we win. One game i even went 18 and 2 with regular weapons gained through xp. You def. dont need to pay to win!!!! Im liking this more and more and i respect the devs behind it, so much so that i just might spend a few dollars on some cool things just to support them.

I pray to god we get planetside 2 because that would be awesome!!!1

No, the number of clones you have as a defender is determined by how many you have at that district. Each district generates clones but you can move these to other districts if you want to give them more reinforcement. The number of clones the attacking team has depends on the number of clones they sent from their district to attack.

And basically what happens is the first attack will almost never conquer the district, but if successful the defending team will lose more clones than they are able to generate. So you can lead a follow-up attack and lower their clone count even more. After say 3 successful attacks you may end up getting their clone count to 0, at which point you are now in control of the district.

As far as Factional Warfare goes, view the Star Map and change it from Atlas to Factional Warfare. Here you will see four corporations,

24th Imperial Crusade representing the Amarr Empire
State Protectorate representing Caldari State
Federal Defense Union representing the Gallente Federation
Tribal Liberation Force representing the Minmatar Republic

On the star map you can see which of these four NPC corporations owns which districts. You will see a "star" symbol appear to guide you to wear battles are taking place, but if you wait about a minute in the Mercenary tab of battle finder the same battles will appear in a more convenient list. Factional Warfare takes place in both EVE and Dust (instant Battles are Dust only) and you can have EVE pilots in your squad to call down even bigger orbital strikes. Right now in EVE pilots get Loyalty Points for continued support of a specific faction which they can spend on various goods. Dust on the other hand gets nothing yet, but that will surely change soon. And I haven't heard anything specifically but I would like it if there is some bonus reward if the faction you show continued support to conquers a large chunk of New Eden.

Honestly I believe Dust will be far more massive than anything Destiny will do (though I am looking forward to that too!) The problem now is partly like you said that the interesting stuff is hidden, but also partly that Dust 514 is still in it's infancy depsite being a "released" title. Like for instance right now we play on different planets but they all have the same 5 geographical properties. CCP is working on a proceduraly generated terrain system that would make each of the thousands of districts unique. Right now we only have a handful of surface infrastructures, but they are working on designing more as well as racial variants of current ones. Right now we only have temperate planets, but soon we will have lava, ice, and gas planets. Right now we Dust players don't even have access to null sec which makes up a very vast amount of New Eden. It's really hard to see how truly massive the game when so much of it looks like we are fighting on the same handful of maps over and over.

Im not sure if I do suck or everyone has good equipment. I screwed up allocating sp. So getting good equipment will take some time. Is there anyway to reset sp or do i have to create another character :

Will i still get the bonus sp and the 7 day sp booster if i create a new character?
Only if you use a different PSN account, otherwise the recruiter rewards will recognize that you already played Dust before and are not a new player.

As far as creating a new account goes, I wouldn't really recommend that unless you really want to change your character name or race (which only affects your Merc HQ and starter fits). There's a saying in New Eden that no skill is a wasted skill. It's not like you all of a sudden can't train into something because you trained something else. Especially if you're character now has 500,000 skill points invested in stuff you'll use eventually then might as well keep on trucking.

What skills do you have currently? I'd be glad to offer some assistance on a good path to follow from their, or whether you might be better off starting over.

Yeah, makes sense. Why restart when I'll end up getting the same skill.

Well currently the skills are scaterred in weapons and dropsuits. Kind of hassle stating them now cuz om just using my phone. I'll post them up as soon as i get to my pc. Thanks bro.

Anyways, any difference between medium basic dropsuits and medium assualt once? Tried comparing the attributes but its the same.

The Assault suits are identical to the basics as far as slots and PG/CPU go (that'll probably change later), but the Assaults suits get a passive bonus from the corresponding assault skill. Every assault suit gets +5% shield recharge rate per level (so 25% if you have Level 5 Assault) then a second bonus depending on what racial suit it is,

Gallente: 5% reduction of PG/CPU for hybrid weapons per level
Caldari: 3% reduction to reload time for hybrid weapons per level
Amarr: 5% reduction to heat build up for laser weapons per level
Minmatar: 5% increase in sidearm clip size per level.

I started playing during the beta and I play EVE for about 6 years now. I love to see how a community is taking a shape. I see a bright future :)

I spent most of the time in my comically overpowered LAV terrorising red dots. If we can get 4 or more of us at once then it might be more viable for close squad-work.

I downloaded this a little while ago and finally got around to checking it out tonight, or at least trying to. It took a while to "synchronize" but I figured it was no big deal. Then, it started downloading a 1.33GB update. The majority of the time I let it go, it was at 0kbps, and only got to 700 a couple times. With less than 1% downloaded, I decided to get on the internet and see if it was a widespread issue.

That's when I learned that after the painfully slow 1.33GB update, there would be a 2+GB update after that. People are seriously waiting through this shit just to try this game? What are they thinking with this? I can't imagine I will ever bother to try this out again.

It's just the pain of all the updated builds downloading after another. The Dust 514 client you download from the store is still the same exact thing we were given a year ago with the closed beta. Sony should really let CCP update this without some big fee so it would be easier for new players.

I feel your pain, but maybe let it download over the night or something. Even with the horrid downloading I'd still say it's worth it just to try.

I'd imagine all online only games have huge updates. Especially when they've been out for a while and you are just now getting into it. I remember starting dc online like last year and it seemed to take forever to download and update. Go make a sandwich and watch some tv.

I'm playing every now and then really no clue what to do beyond purchase skills I spose. Do we have a clan at all? One issue I do have is that I find it really hard to aim in this game. I like the tone of it and think I;ll stick with it as F2P but hopefully patches continue to improve it. Maybe I should fiddle with the sensitivity or just bust out a keyboard and mouse. I'm kind of digging being a sniper at the moment. They seem to have a decent server pop, I mean it's not what EVE currently is but even Eve started from humble beginnngs. Tranquility has 7k on anytime I go to play.

The LAVs are ridiculous, really need to do something about the instant kill collisions. Possibly the most aggravating thing about the game currently, aside from that, I'm loving it! Using m&kb with my Scrambler Rifle is great fun.

Also looking for a corp if anyone needs fodder, I have K/D ratio of 1.45 (varies wildly depending on role I'm using).

Invest in av grenades. It's always nice to have a guy coming right at you only to get blown up

Join my handsome jackal company. All the members are me. XD I don't care what your k/d ratio is.
My K/D is terrible like 0.25 or something XD

My one support class has a bad k/d ratio but it doesn't matter. I get all the war points.

Yeah, LAVs are annoying. When im running across the field I panic when I hear one coming, I might get hit and then I realize its a teammate.

I wanna try kb&m sometime. I kinda suck at ds3. How much is a set of a keyboard and mouse for ps3 though?

Anyone who isn't a PS3-only owner knows that a download that takes a full day like this only happens on PS3. It's not something that anyone should put up with. I downloaded DCUO on Steam after having it on PS3 and it's a world of difference there too.

It's really unacceptable to spend 12+ hours downloading an update just to try something out. They need to get their shit together.

It's sort of annoying to have to swap them, but I just use my PC USB keyboard and mouse. Also very useful to have a hardware switchable DPI mouse, as the sensitivity in-game can be wonky (though it seems to have changed to me lately, but I may have just gotten used to it)

You've obviously been very lucky in your choices of games, just yesterday I had to download an 8GB update (jesus christ) for PlanetSide 2. About 2GB of updates for PoE over the last week.

Also apologies double post guys :p

So Uprising 1.2 is coming this month, and first tidbit we know is there will be two new types of armor plates,
  • Ferroscale Plates: Less armor but no movement penalty.
  • Reactive Plates: Less armor but self-repairs.

There's also some new Laser Rifle variants planned, but I'm not sure if those will make it to Uprising 1.2 or not.

How does this game compare to Planetside 2? Are they pretty similar? I had a hard time getting into that. Everything just felt so uncoordinated and drawn out.

I've not played Planetside 2 yet, but Dust isn't really comparable as far as I know. Dust's gameplay is built around being an arena shooter with a limited number of players per match (currently 16vs16, but probably going up to 24vs24 later this year). The main appeal of Dust, for me at least, is the very in depth skill system and the incredibly customisable gear loadouts.

Well, I'm downloading it now. Gonna give it a shot. Are all items (weapons, equipment, etc.) attainable without paying money? I assume the grind is quite bad to get everything.

Have the Devs said anything about continuing this series on PS4?
They've strongly hinted at it. They want the game to keep going for a long time, and I think one of them joked about putting it on the PS7 if people are still playing then. No clue how long it'll take them to get a client on the PS4, but the f2p space fps genre is getting really crowded on the PS4.

Yes, all the items are available for ISK (which you earn in-game) and non of the paid for items are more powerful. The only difference with the premium items is that they require lower skill levels to use, and are therefore available sooner.

It's worth remembering that everything you equip is destroyed when you die, so you'll need multiple copies of your loadouts for every game. There is exception to this with 'blueprint originals' which are never destroyed and currently only available via AURUM or special events. The blueprints aren't very powerful though, so you'll soon want to use the destructible higher tier items.

The grind can be quite difficult at first, right now it'll probably take at least a couple of months before you can really compete with the stronger players. You get a certain amount of skillpoints to begin with so you should spend them carefully. Maybe make a few alts to test out skills and equipment to see what you like best. When you find something you like, stick to it; the first few million SP are valuable so you should try to specialise.

The grind isn't all bad, since you earn passive SP on your main character. You could take a break for a few months and come back to find millions of SP to spend (the rate is 24,000 per day without boosters).

The grind isn't that bad in my opinion, and pretty similar regardless if you are using paid items or not. I started a new character to see what it's like for the new Dust players out there and only a week in and I already got a decent fitting that has even killed a few top-gear players. Deaths will come plentiful for new players as they are still learning how exactly the flow of combat works in Dust, but even any player is more than capable of killing any other player.

Thanks for the info. Anything in particular you would suggest a new player try to get first (guns, suits, equipment, etc.)?

Militia gear. There is a tab in the market place specifically for it. This has has a good variety of the type of stuff you can upgrade later but has no skill point requirements, meaning you can test out a lot of different play styles before dedicating yourself to anything.

It changed, and for the worse. Sensitivity for say lateral movement is not the same as lateral movement when aiming; it slows down considerably, so if you're planning on aiming at a moving target you'll find yourself moving the mouse a hell of a lot more when looking down the sights.

You can configure the x-axis sensitivity, but not the change in sensitivity when aiming.

Wanted to share this from the forums, sounds like a very awesome way of further linking EVE and Dust visually.

During night maps (and possibly day) if the moon count and size was accurate with the planet being fought on it could really help change up the look and feel of every map. This also includes the same nebula seen in EVE in that particular system..
This is something that I am very interested in doing and we've talked about this internally. I haven't actually made a prototype of this yet, but it should work ... in theory All the information is there, we just have to find a way to make it work together

I've also been toying with the idea of finding events that happen in EVE that could somehow have an effect on the environment. For example, if a Titan would explode in orbit around the planet, it make the atmosphere thinner and show more of a nebula, Similar to what happened on Caldari Prime where the Titan went down. Even making it rain ash and fire after a large battle for a few hours. Even some sort of an energy pollution

This would make planets that have more activity look more dramatic with a view into space and a more dynamic environment

These are just ideas in my head though

I just tried using keyboaed and mouse. And yes it's so annoying while aiming the sensitivity is so slooow.

Just noticed while using mouse im more effective firing from the hip than zoom/aim.
