Dust: An Elysian Tail coming to Steam May 24th

I've seen this thread in the top page for a while. Didn't really know what it was... never bothered to check the game out. Once I saw those .gifs I was sold though.
Lowering the barrier to discovery though .gif is important!
I don't understand, if you're the creator of Dust, why wouldn't you have it on your Steam account? Did something weird happen with the publishing/development of this port?
Of course he does :p
I'm buying it because of those gifs, is this 60fps?

I'm a huge Muramasa/Metroidvania fan so this should be just for me.

Oh the dev is here, I love how the game looks and I'm so supporting you, I hope it sells well!
It seems to run 60 very well, even on lower systems from what I gleamed.

Just finished chapter 2. I'm having a blast with this game! The characters are great and everything feels and plays great!

Can't wait to see how the story goes on.

Just started the game.

Running it on an ancient laptop with the following specs:-

Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz (Dual IDA engaged)
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
15.6" 1080p FHD Monitor
Windows 7 x64 Professional SP1

A few technical observations:

Game runs nicely at 1080p even with my low end specs. It is wierd though how the FPS is capped to 57-58 FPS unless Variable Refresh is switched on, in which case it goes to 60 FPS.

I had to switch off Post processing as well to maintain 60 FPS under certain situations but I chalk that down to my aging laptop's specs. Depth of Field can be kept on with a minimal hit to performance.

Interestingly enough, I don't have WMP installed on Windows 7 (I've unchecked Windows Media Player in the Windows Features box accessible via the Control Panel), and the game still runs with the videos, voice acting and audio playback intact. Perhaps only .NET 4.0 and XNA 4.0 (both of which I have on my system) is required.

As for the game itself, it's just brillant so far. Congrats Noogy, and thanks again for bringing the game over to PC, the delays notwithstanding.

How big of a download was this for your guys? (I never trust the number listed on the Steam page as it's wrong half the time)

If it's something not enormous (<2GB), I might end up impulse buying this.

Is this a metroidvania?

It's less open to freedom of routes then super metroid or SotN but there is plenty to look around, especially if you play on a harder mode as items for attack and defense become much more important to survival then just leveling up.

Saying that I hope everyone is on hard or whatever the choice is called, the game is much better when there is a little more risk involved and you need to go back to places for loot.

Noogy, was the button spam wall climbing fixed in this version? it's really hard to do but you can use it to gain height on walls before you get the climbing skill.

Wow, congrats Noogy, TotalBiscuit just called Dust: An Elysian Tail PC "one of the best PC ports I've ever seen of anything" in his WTF Is?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taRJkbnEgK4

Also, did my part:

Am I the only one who grew up watching shows like TMNT, Street Sharks, Biker Mice, and the Sonic cartoon :(?

Well it is not so much anthropomorphism in general that makes it "furry" it is whole aesthetic: the big googly eyed facial style, clean lines, bright colors, and "cute" voices.

Sometimes it grates me a little just because it is a little too saccharine. But it is absolutely stupid for people to get caught up on it just like it stupid for people to get caught up berating other people because of some fetish.

Fidget, in particular, can be a bit grating. But the game is aware of it. My boy Dust has my back on that assessment:

At any rate, this game is fantastic. When you learn that you can air combo link into Fidget's attack and back to a combo and basically fly forever it's awesome. It's like 2D GunValkerie. :)

He should be able to generate as many Steam keys as he wants.

Its awesome to hear so many people enjoying their playthrough.

I am really enjoying it. I hope I get some time today to play.

I hope that the payout for noogy is better on steam, the game really deserves to sell well and feel that xbla, while good, is far from top numbers compared to steam.

The problem with XBLA is that it hit a peak for indies and then went downhill once they changed the interface to highlight Zune music and Netflix and whatever else fuck all and started getting bigger and bigger publishers releasing arcade games.

Had he released it on XBLA a year or two earlier it probably would have done better. It hit its apex several years ago.

Thanks Noogy for such an amazing game. I hope a Dust 2 come into play in the near future. I will most certainly double dip with this game on the PC.

double dipped, thanks Noogy for such an amazing game, one of my top 5 Xbox 360 games, also thanks for the tip on setting CPU affinity to only two cores, my CPU was running at 100% usage and now it's 40-50 with no difference in performance (1080p maxxed settings). The game is very well optimized and I got no stuttering even with variable refresh disabled.

Now if we could only get Journey (never happening) and Outland (why has this Ubisoft game not been ported to Steam ?)...

Just got the slide move, enjoying it a lot so far (playing on Tough difficulty). Only crashed once so far, so not had too many issues with it.

Noogy, this reminds me... I remember watching clips of the Elysian Tail movie on your site around the early 2000s or so. Just wondering, are you still working on it? I guess Dust would have kept you away for a long time!

Grabbed a copy from Steam. I never got around to buying the Xbox version, but even then I was in awe after watching the GiantBomb quick look. I recall Brad being really impressed with the game.

Should I start on hard difficulty?

I am playing no normal and while it isnt that challenging to avoid death (I only died twoce so far in about five hours) the challenge comes in trying to get good combos and keep my attack power low.

Speaking of which, how does this upgrade system work? I have upgraded as far as it will let me in every category acceot attack power, which I am trying to avoid upgrading. How do you unlock the next tier of upgrades? I have just been saving my gems in the meantime.

Try by putting one in Attack Power. It should give you more stuff to upgrade.

Everyone, start on Tough, you get the most out of this game then.

There is a soft cap so you can't stack all your gems in one skill only, spread out some of your level ups and it will increase the cap.

This game is quite good, though fidgets voice make me want to end myself.
But Fidget is adorable :(. Guys are apparently put off by it though.

The glass-cannon, best-defense-is-a-good-offense build is working out surprisingly well for me so far on hardcore. I wonder if that's going to come back to bite me in the ass later.
