Dust: An Elysian Tail coming to Steam May 24th

It's downloading now. I really can't wait. Having not owned a 360 in a number of years, I'm ecstatic about Live games hitting PC. Limbo, Fez, Bastion, and now Dust.

Saw the quick look on this a while ago and was hoping it'd hit PC. It's an amazing story, as well, regarding it's creation. Guy deserves all his props.

God sometimes I HATE PC gaming. Game's crashing on Startup after the 'all ages' screen. Great. Any ideas, I just get a black screen.

Man, why don't I read up in the Steam forums before buying stuff I can't return :(

Specs?

Are you running any D3D Injectors? Fraps? MSI Afterburner? SweetFX? Steam overlay?

Updated your drivers recently? Clean install?

Restarted Steam/Computer after install?

+ make sure you have WMP installed (I'm guessing it's XNA).

Woot I finally get to play it.

My last 360 died before I got to play it. Didn't feel the need to buy another 360. Seriously went through to many, which is insane since my 3 launch PS3's are still kicking. :-P

Now that it's on steam I get to play it.

I don't think so, no, no, no and no.

Updated a few weeks ago (Radeon 7850), so far no problems with that.

Didn't restart Steam or PC, didn't know that would matter these days. Will try.

edit: Fuck, it's a GfW game? WHY DID I BUY THIS DAMMIT.

Amazing story behind the development behind this game and very professionally well made...That being said, I could not be less interested in the actual game though. The visuals look well made, but just nottttttt for me. Good to see he's able to branch out to other platforms.

Take a second to calm down. It's not GFWL.

I have a XBLA copy of this (haven't played it), but I'm really tempted to get on Steam, just because I prefer games on Steam and I want to throw more money at Noogy

XNA requires Windows Media Player, but doesn't require GfWL.

Thought you meant "windows marketplace", that's why i panicked :) Where can I download WMP without hassle?

edit: Driver update didn't help, really.

Double stealth edit: Wait, Noogy's in here, too? I did not know!

Noogy, out of curiosity, is the automatic language selection something standard related or leftover from the 360 version (which has to do that on the console of course).

I'm just curious why some games are like that sometime.

There is a Steamworks feature that changes the language of games based on the language of Steam selected. He might have used that.

Good luck with the hassle-free part.

Yeah my steam is set in english already. I worked around the issue by renaming the french dll file so it defaults to english. Not a huge deal but I always wondered why devs do that.

about 1.5gb

Thank you. I should be able to squeeze it in what remains of my transfer quota.

It's twice the size of the XBLA version, what could it be?

Throwing something here... do you use a non-US regional setting?

That was what caused Marvin's Mittens to fail on my machine.

Where would I be able to check that? I'm in Germany, but using Steam in English, that's all I know about that.

@Megasoum: bububut my Steam already is displayed in English o.o

If you want to change the language, go in the game's folder, find the folder with your language ("de" I imagine) and rename/delete/move the dll in the folder. Without the german dll the game will default to english. Make sure to disable the automatic updates in steam.

Search for "regional" in the start menu. You should get an entry with an icon that looks like

In the "format" tab, set the language to English (United States).
Note: you should take note of the value that is currently selected so you can set it back if it does not resolve the problem.

The cause of the problem that I had with Marvin's Mittens is that it was trying to parse numbers using the French format instead of the US format the data files were in. The .NET framework is a pain for that.

Also, some reports of incompatibility with multi-monitor set-ups. If you're having problems, disable the other monitors.

Yeah.

Personally, it's not that it's incompatible and causing crashes or anything, it's that my mouse can move over to the other screen and start clicking and lose focus or start typing characters there.

I've had a couple odd lockups though. Complete freeze, seemingly at random while running around in the early wilderness...to see whether my whole computer was locked up, I pressed numlock to toggle its light, and the game immediately un-froze. May have been luck, though.

Also, as I was accepting the village strong man's request to deliver something, we got to the line of dialogue where he actually requested the delivery, and his character portrait was missing and the game refused to advance the dialogue. I hit escape and chose to skip and I was given the quest and allowed to continue, but I may have missed some lines there.

Big thanks for the idea and the instructions, but it didn't help either :(

I got a blackscreen on start up but I think it was because fraps was running, hasn't happened since. Though I turn fraps back on to test and it loaded fine so could have been something else.

The only other issue (non issue) I've had is changing the volume on my usb headset during the msg/hyperduck etc logos skips me to the main menu. Some games do that, never understood how that happens.

I've seen this thread in the top page for a while. Didn't really know what it was... never bothered to check the game out. Once I saw those .gifs I was sold though.

This is playing great from my laptop to TV via HDMI Big Picture. Game is great. Really like the characters and voice acting so far. Definitely worth the $13 something it cost.

Also what are the best skills/stats to invest in throughout the game?

So far I am putting everything in damaging stuff. Bad idea?

I didn't read thaaat much info from people when the game first came out. I remember Brad from Giant Bomb, and some other forum people saying the more you put into damage, the harder it is to get your combo counts up or something. I guess it makes the combat finish a little too quickly?

but like I said I have no idea myself, because of that I think I'm going to hold off putting a lot into damage.

So far it seems like the high combo hits come from Fidget's shot run through the storm, and I haven't invested a lot in that just yet. Maybe I'll put more in defense.

I did this. Around halfway through the game, I felt the combat was boring because of how easily everything died. So my advice, pick one or do both:

* Play on a harder difficulty
* Don't focus on offense

Damn shame on no demo.... reading the main pinned thread on steam and it seems like its got a lot of problems with over heating. I really would like to buy this too, look amazing. I will probably just wait a month or so for a sale....and hope it gets a few patches..

Really digging this game so far about two hours in.

I think the combo mechanic with fidget and air juggles keep it simple enough to not be overwhelming but complex enough that you aren't just mindless button mashing.

Game also looks stunning.

you can really do anything but... minor enemy spoiler:
make sure to put some points into fidget early on as there is an enemy about a third of way into the game that avoids melee attacks that is a huge pain to kill if you don't have fidget leveled up some

If I'm not bothered by all this furry shit is there really any reason not to get this?

EDIT: Well, I guess it really doesn't matter what you say, I just bought it anyway.
