Dust: An Elysian Tail coming to Steam May 24th

Grabbed a copy from Steam. I never got around to buying the Xbox version, but even then I was in awe after watching the GiantBomb quick look. I recall Brad being really impressed with the game.

Should I start on hard difficulty?

Tough mode is fun but tough.

What exactly are the differences in difficulty levels besides tougher enemies? I restarted the game on Tough thanks to everyone recommending that, but is it just me or do the powers recharge a bit slower? I don't even remember the dodge being linked to power but i find i'm running out more often on Tough.

I am pretty sure dodge depletes on normal, but I'm not sure about the rates.

Good lord, I feel like a deserve a medal for getting through
the spiky part of Cirromon Caverns
. What a crock of shit that was. I tore through most of the foods I had saved up.

OK, played it straight to past meeting the blacksmith's daughter and finding that asshole's laundry in the cave.

Fun little game, very well put together.

Normal mode is way too easy.

I just bought this to support the work put into the menus and interface.

It really is impressive how the menus and inputs are totally dynamic.

Use the controller and the menus and button prompts are optimized for that, then you move the mouse and it automatically moves to kb/m controls, including prompts.

The power of a positive "WTF is.."

It was number 1 for over 12 hrs straight before the WTF was even released. The WTF gave it a nice boost this afternoon after being down for a few hrs.

I'm happy to see it do so well. It's a really good game, and the port deserves love.

Oh, I didn't know TotalBiscuit put up his WTF Is... so soon.

That makes sense, but I'm still surprised to hear that it hit #1 before the vid, even. I mean, it deserves it, I guess. I'm glad I bought it.

I must say, the configuration menu for this game is one of the best I've ever seen on PC.

The ability to change the positioning and scale of the UI... I would kiss Noogy on the mouth for that one if I ever got the chance. :P

Fidget's attack + dust storm (in both its ground and aerial variants) seems quite OP, no? You can keep spamming it all day long even on "tough" difficulty and take care of most enemies. Or am I missing something?

I thought the game was just being overly forgiving at the beginning.

Every time I would just abuse the shit out of the Dust Storm I was like "There has to be some kind of downside to just spamming this OP as fuck attack, right?".

So far the only thing I can tell is that the white flame bar drains, but definitely not before every enemy on the screen is dead x10.

Got CPU load at 100% constantly while playing this, even in the menus. Not too big of a deal for me because my temps don't get too high.

Can't really play it too much right now but I'm really glad it came out on Steam, this was one of the last 360 games I really wanted to play

Good guy Noogy.

Realizes PC gamers likes to chat, pause game default button is tab.

Shift-Tab required to chat while in game.

That's an interesting bug that I hadn't noticed.

Same with me.

Y CAN'T DUST CRAWL?

OK, I'm completely in love with the animations in this game. I really, really like how there are return to idle animations for so much that Dust can do - it reminds me a lot of SNK's animation, especially in KOF XII/XIII.

Just set the process to 2 cores until he patches it.

Hey Noogy, have you thought at all about localizing the PC version for the Japanese market?

Send me a PM if that's something you might be interested in doing.

I'm not familiar with what influences Noogy drew upon as inspiration for the game, but oddly enough, I'm feeling some shades of Planescape: Torment, both in terms of some of the music and a few plot elements.

About 1:50 in, Glade sounds very PS:T.

Picked this one up today after seeing TB's vid. I'd heard of the game, and seen screens and such, but it's rare to hear TB gush over a game like this, and the price is right, too.

I noticed this too, mine hovers around 50-60% load, which is enough to make the fan crank up to where I can hear it, which is kind of distracting. My GPU, on the other hand, is sleeping through it.. not very graphically taxing (the art style makes it, though), so I can't figure out where the cycles are going.

noogy pls
LOL

HUD scaling needs to be a standard option in every single PC game. Nicely done.

Yes

The UI in Bioshock Infinite was especially frustrating.

Doesn't scale correctly when downsampling, no options, can't turn it off for screenshots.

Great example of Noogy absolutely embarrassing a AAA developer/publisher.

Hey, it's playable! Some weird freezing here and there, but I'm sure it will go away as soon as the CPU utilization problem will be solved.

I played this game for nearly five hours today.

Then I shut it off and thought maybe I should do something else instead of play this my entire Saturday.

So I browsed NeoGaf a bit and ended up at this thread.

Now I'm booting up Dust again.

That's how good.

I think I'm due for a Dust replay. Glad to see people are enjoying it, such a magical game.

I think people will be surprised at how interesting the story and characters are. Won't spoil anything, but it's all sort of deceptively simple in the beginning.

What's especially shitty is that all that functionality already exists in the configuration files, but the developers are just too lazy/ignorant to provide proper in-game access to it.

That's why when someone like Noogy actually takes the effort to give us a proper options menu he looks like a fucking god, even though he's just doing what everyone else already should be.

Can you downsample? I'm trying to downsample 1440p to 1080p but the game's options won't show me any more resolutions above 1080p.

I suppose I'm not really sure what the point would be? I love downsampling as much as anyone on this board, but why this 2D game?

I'm on tough and having a few issues with some enemies here and there, but the two bosses I've faced so far have been easy peasy. Any more challenging on later bosses?

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one encountering a resource bug when playing this. I hope it's patched soon!

It's a fantastic game. If you're on the fence, get off it and play something amazing.

You can absolutely scale Infinite's entire UI. It's basically a perfect implementation but the option is buried in a config file.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can scale Dust's entire UI (or maybe I'm missing something). While the bars at the top of the screen are customizable, everything else stays the same.

I'm on normal about 3/4 through and it's starting to present some challenge.

Granted I am keeping my attack power as low as possible to rack up combos, though.

860 hit combo. So close to the 1,000 I need for that quest!
