Neat. Is that supposed to be one of the characters from
Jak & Daxter? You know, someone from Naughty Dog was talking about how their visuals are leaning toward something like realism as of late, and how that doesn't correspond with some of their earlier IPs, whose aesthetic designs were more cartoonish and outlandish (i.e.,
Crash).
However, looking at that image, I am now realizing that it would be so awesome to get a platformer that retains some eccentric and cartoonish sensibilities but sutures all of that to a more credible visual world -- something closer to
The Last of Us or
Uncharted.
This has never been done before, right? It's always like: 'OK, we have a game about a bandicoot that runs and jumps, and it's all a little wacky, so let's go nuts on the color palette, and let's lean into the cartoonish stylization, etc.' That's fine, of course, and I love that aesthetic approach, but why not go the other way? If done right, the effect would be remarkable...
