EA sucks

So apparently I'm too young (a sprightly 34) to play online in EA games anymore.

EA blame MS, MS say my xbl account is so old it doesn't have a DoB.

MS have offered me a token six month Live sub card to play under a different account as they can't add a DoB to my gamertag. So I have to use autolog etc. under a different gamertag.

Apparently only EA have this XBL account age check.

Fuck EA.
For all the new IP's they greenlit a few years ago, they are still truly terrible in so many ways. That is ridiculous.

I have to contact with their consumer support only because y want to continue my Mass Effect playthrough, as I can't get through their old website the cd-key for BDtS.

I hate them too.

TBH this is a direct result of gamers giving so much power to EA that they managed to arm-wrestle MS into having their own EA Live servers in exchange for 360 support after they ruled the roost on PS2.

A clear case of why big powerful companies are not always a good thing.

know her from SF....my cousin dated her for a quick sec as well. Don't know what he did to fuck it off. She's from the same country. Happy to see she's doing well for herself. Its a trip to see her on GAF.

tbh, the preorder bullshit is horrible.

They seriously had Tier 1 in MoH unlocked by pre-ordering? That destroys the whole point of it! hahaha

But they release awesome games. As long as the games are awesome, I'll deal with the bullshit, because it honestly doesn't affect me that much and I'm starting to get old.

the moment my party of heroes stumbled upon a wounded man in a country glade, only to be asked if i would like to buy the option to save him from the ea store was truly a watershed moment in gaming for me.

there is no low activision have sunk to that e.a wouldn't replicate in a heartbeat if they thought it would yield similar profits.
This is so true. I stopped playing Dragon Age shortly after that and haven't gone back to it. It was a huge turn off.

Sure their business practices are obnoxious but I really enjoy the games they publish:

Dead Space
Portal
Mass Effect
Rock Band
Battlefield

It's enough to turn the other cheek when that much high quality content comes out of there.

Jesus. And here I thought this was just going to be a bump stating the obvious reasons why EA sucks. That's incredible. That's a pretty good "two for the price of one" rant they've teed up for you.

They're also wasting Slighty Mad Studios time and talent by making them make those atrocious NFS Shift game that both suck at being arcade game and simultions. These guys should work on something like Gran Turismo or Forza, not on some NFS turd.

That said, it's not as bad as MS wasting both Lion Head Studio and Crytek working on some atrocious on rail Kinect games.

Holy crap I was in the Live beta. What game is this referring to?

I hate EA too. I really try not to buy their products. Ever since they started to shut off the online components of their games forcing you to buy the newer version.

They own too many great developers. Criterion, DICE,
Bioware
, Visceral.
I agree with the bullshit outlined in the OP, but it won't stop me from playing great games.

Anything recent. Shift 2, Hot Pursuit, EA Sports demos. Possibly because I had a MS Passport and refused to give my DoB? It's so long ago I can't remember!

Another story about how EA sucks:

My brother borrowed my Xbox 360 HDD so that he could play some DLC I had. He forgot my HDD was in and started to play FIFA (published by EA). Since it was on my HDD/gamertag, it used my EA account for the game. Since my brother is a doofus, he changed the email address of my account to his email address. He didn't need the password, which is weird, but I guess it makes sense, since my HDD/gamertag was already linked to my account and all that.

The problem arose when I wanted to change the email address for the EA account back to my address. I received an email from EA saying that the address had been changed to the new address, but it did not give me an option to say that this was a mistake (you know, the links in the email that say "if this was a mistake, click here"). Basically, my brother had gained complete control of my account. I couldn't get the password reset email because it would be sent to my brother. And guess what, EA live chat support requires you to log in before using it, so I couldn't even do that.

Good job, EA. My account was hijacked, without any approval on my part, and with no way for me to get my account back. If I hadn't been able to talk to my brother (or if somebody other than my brother had taken my account), I would have just lost my account for good.

Ok, yes, I did let my brother use my HDD. But what if my Xbox or gamertag had been stolen? That is not really an uncommon occurrence, and EA should account for that with their system.

If you let your brother use your HDD, why in the hell did he think it was okay to change your e-mail address?

So I still can't play the System Shock games on my PC because of EA?

I need a cold shower, brb.

This one is still undetermined, but the state of Mirror's Edge 2 is questionable and it's funny because it was such a great game and it earned them a lot of good will in the gaming community, but it's likely that they're sweeping the sequel under the rug.

That goodwill didn't translate to sales.

Normally I'd be right there with you, but they funded Shadows of the Damned, and anyone who does that can't be all bad.

That said, they killed off Westwood, Bullfrog AND Origin, so they're certainly not good.

Your brother sounds like kind of an asshole.

NFL 2K is over-rated trash and the Dreamcast was a shitty machine.

But if EA had a hand in BioWare ruining their franchises then ya, fuck EA.

Can someone explain to me how buying an exclusive licensee to create games for football isn't using their position in the gaming industry in a monopolistic way?

Mostly because that doesn't exist?

I have really enjoyed EA's Dead Space series so far. Dragon Age Origins was also worthwhile if you got the Ultimate edition, but much of the downloadable content was meh. If EA is responsible for the travesty that was Dragon Age II, then that is good reason to dislike them.

I think I would dislike EA more if I played sports games. Paying full price for a yearly update is garbage.

EA accounts are a nuisance. Whoever came up with them must really hate our guts.

I agree with this after an issue I ran into last week. Ive used jergrah as my GT/PSN/etc forever. When I post on the EA boards, it shows up as jergrah. Well last week, all of a sudden whenever I went to EA's sites, I would get prompted to set my EA Master ID - a new requirement with Origin in place now. I used 'jergrah' again and it said it was already in use. I thought it was already set at EA, considering everything I do on any of their sites shows as jergrah.

Come to find out, 8+ years ago I converted my email address on EA.com from a hotmail account to a comcast account. Apparently, that Master ID of jergrah stayed with the hotmail account, even though all I did was update my email address. I was on the phone with EA Support for 30+ minutes when they figured this out. Even when they did, they told me "there is nothing we can do -- no one will ever be able to use that ID". Not a huge deal by any means, but now my EA Master ID will always have to be "jergrah1" because updating your email address on their site disassociates your Master ID forever (or it did way back then).

I dont agree with the thread title that EA sucks --- but this experience last week made me pretty frustrated with the entire EA Login setup and situation.

I just got an email that looks like it's from EA saying that my password for Battlefield Heroes has been reset, which I assume is a result of the beta getting hacked. I spent an hour on their site trying to cancel my account with no luck.

Back in the day all of my Battlefield 2 stats were wiped randomly and I was permanently locked out of my account.

I've bought every Battlefield game and expansion that came out on pc, but when I tried to register them with EA to unlock the Garand in Bad Company 2 they told me that every single key was invalid.

I've been kicked from literally hundreds of Battlefield servers over the years because of Punkbuster

I bought the Mirror's Edge dlc and it turns out that the drm they used makes the dlc incompatible with the Steam version. They've never fixed it and refused to refund my money.

Battlefield 3 will be the first Battlefield I don't buy.

That happened to my main online user ID that I use. But they recently threw all the old inactives into the trash can and I was able to reclaim it. I probably should log in and see if the whole reset password has screwed it up. I'd hate to wait another 5 years to get it back.

I like EA and their games. I don't care about pre-order DLC, and I hardly watch trailers. As such, I don't care about those issues. I only want to play games, nothing more.

The exclusive licenses are dumb, but anyone can still create a football game, just not an nfl or ncaa game.

You may be thinking, URNT THEY A BUSINESS? THERE SUPPOSED TO MAKE MUNNY.

Just popped in to say I HATE that line of thinking too. Every time a thread comes up that involves a company deliberately screwing over consumers, there's always at least one person that simply says "Companies need to make money!" as if most of us aren't smart enough to realize that already.

Blame the NFL -- not EA. Just like with MLB, blame them, not 2K. All of these properties wanted more control of the products they officially licensed, so easiest solution was to open it up for bidding and pick a winner. EA won the NFL, 2K won the MLB. At the time when this happened, 2K had the best football game on the market and EA had the best baseball game on the market --- so only gamers got screwed.

You can blame lots of things, but if you look at the timing, a lot of this occurred after MLB Slugfest resulted in a lawsuit that included not only the Developer/Distributor but also MLB for licensing the product. The game was rated E10 I believe, but included batters hitting fielders with the bats and spiking guys while sliding into a base. Some lady saw her kid playing, got pissed and went to court. And even around that same time, the NFL was constantly at odds with Midway on how they were portraying the game of football and players in Blitz.

Im not saying I think exclusive licenses are good, I think they are complete shit. Im just saying in this instance, you cant really blame EA.

Not to start anything...but why is Activision so evil in everyone's eyes? Sure they don't really make new IP's, and they drove a few of their franchises into the ground, but they aren't doing a lot of shitty stuff EA is doing. For example:
-No online passes/pre-order DLC for their games or COD
-For your marketing point, their new trailers have been pretty cool. Granted I still don't buy their map packs, but hey. :p
-And I don't think they really buyout any licenses or anything? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sure...their DLC is expensive and that whole COD Elite thing is bull, but we have yet to see how that pans out.

Just sayin.
