Activision have plenty of blood on their hands too, but many gamers seem more than willing to give EA a pass because they publish a few games they like.

I personally see Activision as just "taking advantage" of their properties instead of pointless things that only hurt the consumer.
And COD seems to sell without all that pre-order crap. Makes you wonder if that stuff does anything positive.
 
Both EA and Activision SUX. But recently I'm pissed with Codemasters and their Dirt 3.

I have all Codemasters racing games of this generation, and was a HUGE fan of them, even with that damn "dude, bro, cool" Dirt 2, the piss filter and paper physics in Dirt 1, or the bugs in F1 2010. But what they did and keep doing with Dirt 3 is outragous! I feel disrespected.

They've promissed a more serious game, with less "cool, dude bro" stuff, an even better physics than that in Dirt 2, much more tracks and real focus on rally races. But what we get is a worse physics and handling model, less tracks and locations and even more "dude bro" stuff. As if it wasn't enough, they're selling things that are already in the game (something that you've alread payed for!) with expansive DLCs (there's two already).

It seems that they (EA, Activision, Capcom and Codemasters) are begging us to dowload their games illegaly, since they're disrespecting us (who waste our money in their empty promisses) so much. We're paying a lot of money to get broken and even incomplete products, and there's only one way to make them stop: NOT BUYING THEIR GAMES ANYMORE.


EDIT: one company that I hated in the past, but learned to like is Rockstar. They make games like RDR, that are worth your money. Even the DLCs are complete new gaming experiences.
 
There are plenty of good reasons to hate EA. In game EA account CRAP, $60 roster updates, $60 PC games, shutting down Black Box, moving them and making them develop Need For Speed: The Run because EA insisted on running them ragged making simulation skateboarding games and then got all surprised when they saw diminishing returns. There are also such classics as: Dragon Age 2, Medal of Honor and Crysis of Duty. But they are developing a new SSX game so they aren't all bad.

I can't blame them for their online pass thing given gamestop's shady practices and the many mouthbreathers that go into gamestop and buy a newly released game used to save $5. Can't blame them for shutting down servers to games nobody played anyway either. At least they aren't trying to charge you a subscription service to play games and at least they still make games. I could get behind a "Microsoft Sucks" thread 100%, but for obvious reasons that would be an absolute shit show.
 
Most of the games I buy now adays are from EA: Dead Space 1-2, NFS Hot Pursuit, Mirrors Edge, Alice:Madness Returns, Mass 2, Dragon Age, etc.

EA is about innovation and creativity. They are like the Nintendo of the west so I support them.

IDK, he's kind of a moron. I was out of town at the time and he's been dodging my questions. In any case, EA should have required a password or sent an email link allowing me to reverse it.

You can get Magic Carpet and Dungeon Keeper on Good Old Games. I'm not familiar with the Wing Commander franchise but one of the games called Privateer is also there.
 
EA has actually made significant strides this generation in my opinion. They used to just shove out crap year after year and wouldn't publish anything remarkable. Now they're publishing Dead Space, Mass Effect, The Orange Box and Portal 2, Shadows of the Damned, Battlefield 3, etc. All quality stuff and some of it, very creative and "edgy" stuff they wouldn't have published last generation. Even their sports games are adding new features and innovations since Peter Moore joined the ship.

That post was made before they signed on with GOG. That's a step in the right direction but it won't mean much to me until they start releasing the Maxis catalog.

At this point, it seems EA is doing the best content out of all the 3rd party companies.

Just this year Mass Effect 2 (PS3), Dead Space 2, Alice: Madness Returns, Shadows of the Damned, most of their sports franchises are great, Shift 2 wasn't bad.

I dunno.. if you hate EA, you must hate quality.

I'll add something more. Fifa's animation is so incredible that the DICE team asked them for their animation tech to use on Frostbite 2.

I'm talking about Madden and NCAA specifically. They claim Madden is a simulation of football, but not when players act like magnets because they have to make concessions for the animation system.

i completely agree. when i dont like a game its like the devs are begging me to download it illegally! i too feel disrepected that they would release a game that i dont appreciate, and DLC after a game is released.

I'll give a reason!

Origin, EA's new DD service, just tried to install itself on my computer without prompt. Only thing remotely EA related I'd done this week was to reinstall The Sims 3. From disc. But sure enough, just now, browsing GAF while munching my breakfast cereal and UAC pops up (seriously, fuck everyone who thinks disabling UAC is a good idea) to let me know Origin from EA would like to install itself.

The fuck?

I dispense your ironies, mate. And please, don't change the meaning of my words. I'm talking about companies that disrespect their costumers. Are you happy while you're playing Assassin's Creed 2 and your internet conection fails, so you cannot play it anymore? The guy who dowloads it illegaly don't have that issue, but you, who wasted $60 dollars has to deal with it.

Are you happy when you see companies like Activision selling a Call of Duty version worse than the previous one, while charging you 10 dollars more? And then selling DLCs with only 2 new maps for 15 dollars? Without the DLC you'll be excluded from matches, so if you wann keep playing online, you basically have to pay for it, while in the previous versions the DLCs were for free. Isn't weird that with DD these companies have a way bigger profit margin, but even so they're (I'm talking about Activision, EA and Ubisoft) raising their games prices?

These companies are basically calling you stupid.

Don't get me wrong, I do think that Dirt 3 is an amazing game, but I feel disrespected for Codemasters not keeping their promisses. They've made me believe that Dirt 3 wasn't empty like Dirt 2, that it was more rally oriented, with more tracks, that it has better physics. But its not. And what are they doing now? They're selling the "more rally" stuff via 10 dollares DLCs. I feel cheated and I won't pay for it. I refuse to pay for that.

I understand that the games producers have family, that they study and work A LOT, even at night, weekends, etc. They deserve to be very well rewarded for their work, but isn't it unfair that us, who pay for their games, have to deal with stupid DRMs, believe in empty promisses, expansive DLCs with content cuted from the game, while the guy who download it illegally hasn't?

The idea of the DLCs is to expand the game's life. To give an even greater experience, like Rockstar did with GTA 4 and RDR. But what the others are doing is cuting content to sell them later. Don't you fell cheated?

Here's an idea... make a base game with real improvements every 2 years or so, and release roster upgrades, or even just have a game that allows complete roster changes, uniform changes etc. Focus on actual improvements instead of being a very slightly glorified roster update.

I love how the OP presents two valid but ultimately by-the-by points to fill out the OP, before launching into the highly specific point of the thread creation all along. Not slagging you off, Snuggler, just made me chuckle.
 
I feel your pain OP. My relationship with EA is a love hate as well.

There are several titles they are publishing that I'm excited for, particularly BF3.

And I know from experience (BC1, BC2, Crysis2) that their servers/netcode will be crappy for about at minimum the first two months in the games life span, which makes me hesitant to purchase any of their online games day 1.

I've grown weary of publishers, specifically EA, of charging me $60 to beta test their product post launch.

Those are the only iffy ones. But with all the bad news coming from dice (no mod support in BF3, tons of pre-order bullshit, multiplatform release, 2 year alternating cycle for BF/MoH etc), it may wind up being prophetic.

Yeah...Maxis worked on the original Sims series (The Sims 1 and expansions), then a little of The Sims 2 and switched over to developing Spore. They still exist, their latest game was Darkspore.

*Edit* - EA now has control over The Sims series, Jeff Green worked for EA/The Sims Team - not Maxis :)

Pretty much. EA has been putting out excellent games as of late. I used to have a bit of disdain for them when they killed Westwood, but then EA put out CNC: Generals, AKA the best CNC game (and my favorite RTS) of all time.

In my personal opinion, yes.

Bad Company exists for a reason. When you're expecting a sequel to one of the most popular online PC games and you learn it is multiplatform, it raises flags. There is a large difference in the quality of games built from the ground up for PC and games that come out on all platforms, that's a simple fact, regardless of what DICE claims when pandering to their audience. I'll hold back judgement til the game is out, don't get me wrong it looks great, just that a lot of news coming out has me worried.

Weather or not it has anything to do with EA, Maxis is now pretty much dead to me. They're just milking that The Sims train. Give me back the company that wanted to release weird stuff like SimFarm and SimLife and SimAnt

Oookaaaaay.... I think you may be confusing console/PC design differences and multiplatform. But carry on ignoring every game that is not PC exclusive, I guess.
