Scott explaining rock and roll to Scott, the actual Bono drawing a penis and signing it Bonobos, the guys getting all kinds of swag but not any fuckin t-shirts bro-- landmark episode.

little uncomfortable during this one audible ad where Scott spends the entire time making fun of Ta-Nehisi Coates' name and unconvincingly reading a press release for his book, considering it's an impassioned biographical creative essay in the James Baldwin tradition about the pressure of being black in America...but that's just Scott being ignorant so whatev

This was the culmination of the entire podcast, and it was beautiful. Well played, Bonobos.

Scott's reaction to his comments about Bob Marley's music was total C+ material.

It's also nice to hear that U2 seem like genuinely nice fellows. Although I would have expected the whole band to have been willing to play at that gig celebrating the TWENTIETH FUCKING ANNIVERSARY of that fan website. For those fans to be satisfied with that, it makes you wonder if they even know all the members of the band U2.

Relistening to some improv4human episodes. Dan Lippert is really underrated. Really consistently funny. And his voice is deep as hell.

Bussed my whole shit up at the Jon Goodman bit at the end of todays episode. You could hear even Scharpling starting to lose it there as well.

I've somehow ended up really behind on CBB and am slowly making my way through the eps. Yesterday I ended up listening to both the "Banging the Table with Stars" and "Silicon Valley P-Cast" episodes, and they're amazing. Claudia O'Doherty's Kim Cattrall impression was fantastic, and Middleditch's unemployed lottery-winning DJ character was great too. Fantastic stuff.

This actually might answer the question I had. I'm catching up on HHs and I'm on the first Sharpling appearance from a month or two back and I can't tell if this guy is a really good straight man that doesn't know the show or he's playing a character. Either way I was out of breath from laughter when they kept telling him all the ways to make his show good and then Sean said something like "you want to be sober so you can remember all the details about the guys you fucked the night before!"

jemaine clement (flight of the conchords etc) workin on project with Earwolf

http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/08/jemaine-clement-people-places-conversations/

to a radio play he’s developing for Earwolf.

The one I’m doing is like an old-fashioned radio play. A lot of it’s on the ocean. I’m on a big ocean mission sea-going trip.

Are you playing multiple characters?

A couple. I play the main character, but not too many of the supporting characters. It’s going to be pretty cool. We made one. We made a pilot in New Zealand, and then we’re making the rest. We start next week. We’ll make it in New Zealand, but it’s put out by Earwolf.

When do you expect this new radio show to come out?

I’m not sure, but Earwolf will know.

It’s called Uncle Booty’s Buttonarium.

Earwolf has launched a new premium subscription service

http://howl.fm

With new shows from Wild Horses, Superego or Lauren Lapkus, all CBB live eps (including a sclusie) and several comedy albums. Plus, the WTF back catalog

(Including a sneak peek of that Jermaine Clement show)

Weird. They're offering an ad-free archive of Earwolf/Wolfpop shows, but they seem to be about a month behind. I wonder if that means Howl ad-free will be behind the standard feed. It also looks like a lot of the originals are limited-run mini-series or one-offs. Hmm...

no superego backlog on howl subscription is weird

I might just sub for a month and go through the live eps I missed and such. better price than buying them separately

edit: ohhh, free weeklong trial. nice

There's a month trial using podcast promo codes. Cbb or Spont, though I assume every podcast will have a code.

On the plus side, at least they are remastered (CBB). They'd gone back a few times and added new ads to old episodes and recompressed the already compressed files. Some of them sounded hella rough.

On the bad side, we don't get the Pepsi ads.

Hopefully one day they get the NNF archive. Stupidly expensive for new listeners to go back.

New listeners and old listeners, before they joined Earwolf the only thing you could hear for free was the chatter before the guest joined. Then you had to pay yes or yes.

I won't even consider it until they have an Android app, for obvious reasons.

Does the iTunes app let you download eps, or is it streaming-only? Because if it's streaming-only, that's also a dealbreaker for me.

Also, I actually really enjoy Earwolf's ads and would probably miss them.

It lets you download, but apparently sometimes deletes them when you close the app. Hopefully that bug is fixed when it takes android.

Gotcha.

If the episode player is subpar to Pocket Casts (which I'm guessing it probably is), that's also a point of concern.

I dunno. I'm kind of getting concerned with the overall direction of Earwolf/Wolfpop/Midroll. Obviously I want the Choctaw to be filthy rich and everything, but I hope they don't ever completely abandon their ad-supported model in favor of an entirely subscription-based service.

Does that mean stuff like Sean and Hayes on CBB ad reads are now gone forever? :(

edit: Well actually all HH ad reads in general too.

You're not interested in Sergeant Sean's Loot Chest? It's got leaves in it, man!

Matt Gourley is a national fucking treasure.

I wish he'd speak up on I Was There Too though. He talks like someone on Delicious Dish from the SNL skits. Even with the iPhone cranked all the way up I have trouble hearing him over the background noise when riding on the bus and this is the only show with which I have a problem.

Losing ads is not much of a benefit - I'd rather use the podcast app of my choice and easily skip through them when they bother me.
Exclusive content is what'll keep me subscribed - I'm happy to throw $5 a month at them for some bonus episodes or some new podcasts. Not having the Superego archive is a bummer.

They sell ads. The price they get for those ads is based on viewership numbers. Going subscription only for their big hitters would kill that business. Its why Never Not Funny moved. I cant see them ever going away from free totally

pay for the app and get ad free HH

or don't pay and get more great content from Sean and Hayes

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM REAL TOUGH CHOICE HERE

Looks like it's a new series (which is so damn awesome).

I'm glad their archives are still behind a paywall. They put so much work into every episode and deserve $_$

EDIT: No Ronna & Beverly archive tho???

EDIT EDIT: Love that Albums are included

EDIT EDIT EDIT: No Andy Daly POdcast Project? :(

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: Daly and R&B archives are BOTH on the actual app HELL YEAH

ads were fine for years, now we should think it wasn't enough RIGHT after they get acquired by a huge company?

Ads don't really have anything to do with my own personal sense of responsibility for supporting artists. I bought every Superego archive pack. I'll buy a Howl subscription every month.

To each their own, of course, but I'd hesitate to call this garbage.

You've been able to donate to specific shows for years now, why didn't you do that? So now the people who donated will just buy a subscription and all the people who listened to the ads are now not allowed to listen to old eps. What a great compromise, really user friendly stuff.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(also, not sure how the ad free thing works, but i'm listening to HH and it has an ad at the top)

What are you talking about? If you don't want anything to change, ignore it. I really don't understand any anger over this. It's $5 a month.
EDIT: Oh, didn't realize they stopped the archive after 6 month.
