If I want a system that's got specs that big, requires online all the time, and has no used game market then I'll just use my PC thanks.

I already own it, I can have as much storage as I want for cheap, my games don't delist, I can mod things, I have screenshotting and community functionality in game, I can upgrade my system specs if I want to, it doesn't red ring, and games purchased for it beat out the current used market prices anyhow so why should I downgrade?

I want a powerful system in the living room that can live up to the experience I can have on a PC without any of the crap that PCs bring along with them.

exclusives + timed exclusives + microsoft owns the pc gaming market as well so they'll be trying to lock that down eventually? You should welcome your new gaming overlords with open arms, it will hurt less.

oh and dat kenect2 fun.

My PC is in the living room and its hooked up to a TV. It replaced all that for me and I don't know what crap you refer to it bringing, but its done nothing but good things for me. Still enjoy your console. You can keep it.

Kinect should have been sold as a mocap peripheral to animators period. It makes gaming cumbersome instead of simple and enjoyable for long periods of time. Plus I know Microsoft owns the PC market, but they don't OWN the software market. Steam pretty much owns digital distribution and they provide me with all the tools I need to enjoy it...not microsoft. Hell I could go Linux if I wanted to now for a lot of stuff thanks to Steam.

You are very wrong. There is a place in the gaming ecosystem for a place like Gamestop. They may be parasites, but even bottom feeders clean the shit off the bottom of the tank.

Of course they have a place. They existed prior to used game sales (not very well though since EB and Babbages went under). It's just not a very profitable place without used games. Unless they start selling something else.

Games retail in general isn't a very attractive place. You know how US retail is $30 cheaper than Japan or Europe? Nearly every penny of that comes out of the retailer's pocket.

So right after all this shitstorm about no used games, this poll is posted on their facebook page...Hmm.

I wonder why. Some part of all this has to be a trial balloon. Their silence on such a subject to plopping out a poll about the matter is interesting.

No used games will kill the next xbox like it killed steam and pc gaming.

I think this is a bit of a fallacy. I don't remember second hand games ever being a big thing on PC. I do remember Gamestation (UK) having a tiny second hand PC section (like one shelf) around 2000-2001, but I think that was as big as it ever got. For consoles however it seems to have been a big part of the market for a long time.

Did Blockbuster closing hurt movie awareness? Indie record stores fell like flies during the 90s and 2000s, I think music survived. People will still find what they need, and the message about a games existence will still reach the masses. To claim Gamestop dying turns gaming into a niche is just ridiculous.
Blockbuster closed because it became irrelevant and refused to adapt. People found superior and cheaper ways to rent their movies. The situation is completely different because Blockbuster went under because of mismanagement, not because they blocked movie rentals. A block on movie rentals would have a huge impact on that industry.

Bit of a weird question though, the way its phrased. I'd probably answer physical copy because I don't know what "Games on Demand" is. I'm in favor of purchasing games digitally though.

Ah well. Let me know how Halo 5 goes guys. I don't think there's a single franchise, other than Halo, left exclusive to the Xbox that I give a shit about.

Games on Demand is what Microsoft calls their downloadable catalog of retail games.

Something that hasn't occurred to me until now for some reason..

This would also mean you wouldn't be able to return games once you've inserted the disc in your console ?

Doesn't that go against a few laws that are there to protect customers ?
There are laws allowing you to return basically everything you've bought within 7 days or something like that, as long as it's in perfect conditions obviously.

Of course MS could find a workaround, but i can see class actions happening

you can't return opened games in my state, including PC which would be similar. you can exchange them. it could easily be a problem.

not sure about other places, but i'm sure it's somewhat similar in most areas

In Sweden you can only return digital media if its unopened.

Here, and in a few other countries you can, or you can exchange them at least which would still be a problem.

Unless Durango games are categorized in a different way, as goods that are 'ruined' the moment you open them, but i can still see class actions against MS.

I havent seen any lawsuits agains steam? Pcgames you buy in stores thats steamworks shouldnt be able to be refunded if opened since the store wouldnt know if you used up the key or not?

yes, forgot there are many examples of this on pc.
nevermind

But there was a lawsuit, not sure if against steam or some other digital distribution channel, and the sentence was users must be able to re sell their digitally downloaded games as used, as they would with physical media.

has this been posted yet? very good read. the go into how second hand gaming can still live on the next xbox.

http://www.edge-online.com/features/why-microsoft-is-killing-the-second-hand-game-market/

i guess - i thought it mostly prattled on about why these moves are so good for MS' interests, with an aside about selling activation keys for used games, something i thought most kind've assumed would happen since at least the OP. by licensing Gamestop, maybe Gamefly etc to sell these as well, they keep everyone (relatively) happy...except consumers like myself.

There's a big one going on in Germany right now where the government is suing Valve.

I'm hoping that it'll allow games to be played disc-less. I'd like to be able to go into a store, buy the game, activate it using the code in the box and install it from the disc, never needing to re-insert the disc again.

You want a PC with Steam Big Picture Mode. I love mine.

Does big picture mode fix all the bugs and driver problems that come with PC games?

Seeing as how i can go into any game thread for which there is a PC version and see a third of the thread dealing with hardware configuration problems and requests for bug fixes i dont think so. I have ZERO TOLERANCE when it comes to dealing with hardware compatibility and driver issues in games. I left PC gaming years ago due to that and never turned back.

Yes! I install all my games on my 360 and this feature would be a godsend.

It's a terrible name because it suggests mere rentals.

I believe Microsoft, and much of the developer community in the west want games to be more of a service than a product. I think the name is a reflection of that. It's like having films or a show on demand. It's less of the product and more of the service delivering it to you.

let's leave the "1/3 of any PC game thread" hyperbole aside, and focus on the fact that if you played skyrim, silent hill HD collection, walking dead and numerous others, youd idn't stray that far from patches and bugs as you're implying.

I played Skyrim on 360 and yeah the game was buggy but those were bugs dealing with the developers software only. It wasnt because i had a different part in my 360 than someone else had or my drivers were out of date, thats what i dont have time for.

DAMN!!!, i thought id never say this but at this rate i might be ditching MS next console and move back to the SONY!!.

Ideal situation for me would be, Windows 8 starts to incorporate achievement points into ALL PC games from now on, and i just buy the PS4 for exclusive titles...i can wish cant i??

Driver problems you can fix that your self. Like keeping it up to date. And these days a lot of it works fine. Some of them need a little tweaks but that is what makes gaming on PC so good. And the mods oh the mods. And the cheap prices of games. Buying a 60 euro game for a console when i can get it lower on price at Greenmangaming for 30 euro's. And that zero tolerance tjeez. Deal with it. It has been this since the dawn of day on PC.

And most people are not hardcore people who know what to configure there pc or to maintain it in a good state. That's why they ask what needs to be done so everything works fine.

At this moment i have not turned on my Xbox 360 in 1,5 years almost. To be honest i do not miss it and saving me 60 euro's a year for Xbox Live Gold. Here in europe is the worst since we have less things on xbox live then the US and that stinks.

You have to wonder how much of that is tied to the used games news, as well as Games on Demand having absolutely shit pricing.

Game is currently $30 on PC. $60 on 360.
Less than that during the holiday sale, much less than that on GMG.

sony would be smart to go the other route than MS of MS is stupid enough to block used games.

It cant understand the thinking behind stopping used games, talk about being a bunch of backwards thinking assholes.
Didnt MS just do what all the publishers been pushing for ages? If Sony wont be doing the same thing then I can see that the publishers will be favoring MS.

If it's a question between making your publishing partners happy and making brick and mortal game specialty retailers happy, there's no doubt which faction has more clout.

But see what makes it good for you turns me completely off. I dont want anything to do with it. All i want to do is put the game in and play. If it works for you then thats fine, i have no problem with PC gamers. Its just not for me and i know it.

I dont even want anything to do with the mods. Tried the whole modding thing with Morrowind, messed up the game so bad it wouldnt even boot. Looked at it again for Oblivion and you needed a manual to figure out what you should and shouldnt download and the correct order to install them. Miss me with that!

At this point im strictly put the game in and play the game as the developers intended. Thats it.

Zero consoles will let you do that at this point. 3DS and Vita are the closest you can get to the old school console experience at this point.

Brick and mortars are dead. What is left Walmart? Costco?

The best deals in Canada are coming from drugstores these days.

If this no 2nd hand thing goes through GameStop is dead.
