Exploring last night. Dropped into a little canyon with skeletons that revive themselves and some weird sludge monster things.

At the end of a canyon was a door. Inside, murkwater catacombs. Stone imps? Not sure. Easy to clear. Boss behind some mist. Can't remember his name.

Not even that hard bud I couldn't take him down in the handful of attempts I made. 2nd attempt we both had a hit left and i got greedy. I'll get him tonight.

Back to Margit after this.

This game. So glad I picked it up.

All kinds of things, though it depends on the crafting books that you've obtained. The Santa Claus looking NPC in the Church of Elleh sells you the crafting item, in case you haven't bought it.

Only items I craft so far are antidotes for poison and food for Torrent. Can't ask Torrent to go on this massive quest with you and leave him with an empty stomach, that's just a total dick move in my book, lol.
I've never fed my horse. Not once and I'm level 50 😂

He's still running around though and not complained about it so I don't worry. Fuck him, he's got a job to do.

Gay porn is where it's at.

what a huge jump in difficulty
if you're not at the very least 35 vigor might as well just give up going there all together
also the bosses there are on another level, the main one took me 6 hours of trial and error, i almost went fucking mad

Man last night was an exercise in what not to do in a Souls game.

Decided to stop at
Margit
at the very end of a ten-hour marathon session. "Eh, I'll try him once, he's the first boss. Maybe I'll get lucky," I thought. Proceeded to bang my head against a wall for the next two hours and was getting frustrated. It was like "I know he does a charge and that has a follow up swipe, I know the hammer jump/slam is kind of bait if you stick around to punish it, I know the telegraph for the quick tail swipe punish" etc. etc. but I just couldn't execute and my dodging game was getting worse every attempt.

Finally on the "one last try" attempt, just as we enter phase two, my headphones die (been playing for almost twelve hours at this point, bless them) and I'm stuck in dead silence. Somehow I took that as a good omen and I rallied. Dodges were finally on point, I was patient and never greedy. Brought the ugly fucker down. I'll remember that fight forever and its only the first fucking boss.

Do not be like me.

No one is as good at these games on hour ten as they are on hour one or two. If you get frustrated just go to bed or take a break. I think everyone whose played a lot of Souls has that story where they hit a wall with a boss, slept on it, and then came back and won on their first try the next day.

That boss and the area you unlock thereafter really makes this game feel like Dark Souls now. Love it.

I killed
General Radahn
on my first attempt lol. Kept hearing how hard he is on reddit, especially for melee characters (I'm melee). Don't get it but then again I'm yet to kill the blood lord guy after 20+ attempts.

Just spent way too long trying to kill the dragonkin soldier. Those big guys that have massive AoE attacks are a real bitch for a melee character. Just once I'm going to play as a sorcerer in one of these Souls games and fight these guys from a distance.

Against super hard bosses i have this thing that happen where i almost fuck them up first try and then fail miserably like 20-30-50 times after that.

Can't even explain how, but it happen with almost every super boss fight in souls games.

I guess that during the first try you have no frustration at all and react by pure instinct instead of reacting after studying their patterns.

I'm building bad habits in this game. I was a dodge master in other FromSoft games but my timing is way off here. So I'm just tanking shit. I have 40 Vigor, which isn't a ton, but it's enough for me to survive most hits. So I'm just taking hits to the face in order to get a bunch of hits in myself, then rolling away/blocking and healing. It's super risky but it also shortens boss fights like crazy, which seems to increase my chances of success. I know it's gonna get me killed against later bosses, though.

What weapon(s) is everyone rolling with?

I'm using the Spear (might be called winged spear) and the Urumi whip.

I also use a ton of throwing knives and darts to lure and take out flying enemies.

Has there been any update/fix for the stutters on PC? I want to play this game, but not shelling out bucks for something that will be ruined by bad performance.
I've got a beefy computer but I'm still getting occasional stutters. Reports seem to indicate that while high-end hardware can mitigate them a tiny bit it doesn't help very much.

Totally playable for me though. Overall I'd say performance has hindered my enjoyment of this title by like ... 0.5%.

Why not try it? Its pretty amazing.

I know exactly what you mean! That actually happened to me on Tuesday with the Tree Sentinel while I was trying to be a Wretch try-hard. I think we psych ourselves out. I need to learn to actually concentrate instead of "trying" to concentrate but after ten years playing this stuff I still only hit that flow-like mental state by accident. Pretty neat when it happens tho!

Lol the opposite for me, i usually tank behind a shield but i guess that getting good after 600 hours with monster hunter and that tiny ass i-frame roll that game has made me a roll master in this game.

To keep things vague, you eventually acquire the ability to respec from a particular someone that you will meet during the main story path. You take an item you find in the world to them, and you can reset back to the default stats for your class, getting back all the attribute points you earned.

I just acquired the ability and I'm about 20 hours in, level 50, but I've been taking things pretty slow. It can be acquired sooner than that. I also had the item needed, as I just happened upon one not realizing what it was for. I believe they're fairly abundant.
Thanks for this! I appreciate you being vague. That was exactly what I'm looking for.

Although I'm 20 hours in as well and only level 27 I think ...

Nice! I'm definitely still dodging and not playing super recklessly or anything, but I'm also taking a slightly more Bloodborne approach where I'm willing to get hit in order to get in a few hits myself. Bosses just seem to have so few openings and strafing around them forever waiting for one can still get you killed.

I still have to fight the tree sentinel once, maybe tonight is the night, i'm only a level 7 wretch with a pair of gloves and a surprisingly strong straigh sword of the vessel (i don't know the english word for vassallo).

Right now i'm really abusing the jump+r2 attack on basically everyone, fun times.

To be fair i'm dodging because i'm a nude wretch not strong enough to wield the shiled i found...

I still prefer the shield style with an occasional roll here and there, rolling all the time is super fucking stressful :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Also i really want to try this block counter new mechanic, it looks perfect for me.

Ah man this is exactly where I was yesterday. Naked and (only sometimes) afraid. I made it 20 hours without a shield and I was really missing having one when dealing with superfast enemies like those cave gargoyles. One thing I'd wished I'd done is remember to farm some enemies around the first big camp with the treasure chests. They have some good drops for a Wretch with nothing (including a surprisingly decent medium shield) and drop rates aren't absurd.

Also consider at least rushing through to the first boss and exploring the area that's beyond/above the Stormgate. I kinda thought the Stormgate was the gateway to the first boss and put that off way too long. There's a few goodies up for grabs on the wooded plateau that would've made my start easier.

Stay strong, Wretch.

They dropped that shield already, i just need to put some points on strenght to use it.

I farmed like 100 fo those soldiers.

I'm gonna take my sweet ass time before even going to the first boss, right now i'm on "exploring to find a pair of pants for my boney ass" mode.

Man you're totally starting the game exactly like I did on Tuesday. Respect.

Question - did any of those guys drop a spear? I love spears even though they've always been trash in these games.

Golden Halberd. And Zweihander. Also Golem Greatbow. I have a quality build and now investing into Faith.

I love whips. I found a "thorned whip" in Dark Souls. It'd be cool to find a glowing blue magic whip or something here.
I've only found two whips and there is an enemy I recently encountered that has a different one that it probably drops. I'm guessing there's a magic one and maybe a spike/thorn one too.

I've been going towards quality but its not too late to change plans towards either STR or DEX. With an investment into FTH it seems like you'll need to prioritize 5 stats now ... might be spreading yourself too thin. How's it working out for you/what level are you?

Try them all for 10 min. Whatever you start with in terms of armor and weapon could easily be what you're stuck with for 20 hours. 100% less gear than in any other Souls game. Starting choice is a lot more significant.
Im 12 hours in, lvl 35. Thinking about going full heavy armor and strength and leaving my faith build behind me.

Been watching DrDisrespect play the game and man the game just clicked with him on yesrdays 3rd stream, an 11 hour stream and he only stopped because the game crashed and his wife was giving him grief.
He's blasted the game a lot, mostly about the camera and sluggish controls, but he's also getting to the addiction point with the game.

Myself, i'm about 25 hours in, and just love the game.

That set of areas I brought up last time…well, I missed a dialogue by clicking twice instead of three times through repeated lines (From…….), so I actually got a story thread to continue when I revisited to check for anything new. Finished the quest line. Seems important, and got the (weapon) moonlight greatsword :messenger_hushed:

Ah hell. You have to keep talking to NPCs even when they are repeating themselves now?!

So that one secondary and invisible boss in a cave with a bunch of illusory walls is nearly impossible if you have a thrusting weapon and no spirit summons.

A cool idea, but he needed to stay visible a little longer. Probably much easier with any weapon that has wide swings.

Can you not summon at all in the Evergaols? Not even the Wolves?
Nope. I usually put a summon sign down before trying a boss a few times. Gives you a sneak peek and can help some folks out. Tried that with one of the Evergaols and although I did get summoned, it looked like the poor host couldn't active the gaol and she ended up using the Finger Severer to send me home.

Some of those have an NPC summon sign, or so I read after that incident.

I love reading about other people's experiences in this game and comparing them to my own.

Soak it up, people. This is gaming at its best and it will be a long time before the internet has so much to discuss world-wise about a newly released game.
You know a game is good when you enjoy hearing others talk about it. I've been watching this Scottish comedian I like (Limmy) play through earlier parts on Twitch and I'm finding it really entertaining. I can't recall the last time I played a game where I was compelled to watch someone else play through parts I just recently played.

Nope, just a straight sword in the beginning.
And a 2 handed sword if i remember well.
