ELDEN RING |OT| One Ring To Rule Them All

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
So I'm not doing so well in this game right now. I'm fat rolling, the weight is showing as heavy I think, and I don't know what to do. I'm using Vagabond class, starting armour that came with the character - I haven't put any points into endurance so far, just vitality, dex and strength as my current weapon scales with those two attributes.

I'm watching Youtube videos of guys with nice sturdy armour and they are moving super quick and rolling quick. I have no idea what kind of endurance they are rocking but my character is not great.

I killed Margit but it felt undeserved as I used a summon to do it. I'm going to all kinds of places and I feel super underleveled. I'm rolling soooo slowly, if I use a shield I'm getting pummeled by knights in Stormveil castle.

It's funny, I beat Dark Souls as a heavy tank but in this game I'm just not sure what I'm doing. My weapon damage is 140 + 40, I have a number of stones to level up the weapon but I haven't done that yet. I'm desperate for a Ultra Great sword but I don't want to cheat and find the location for one - DONT tell me where I can find one. :D

I'm getting murdered so far.

You need to start putting points into Endurance pronto. Beating margit with no endurance upgrades is kinda wild. End gives you more stamina and carry weight, you need to take some gear off until you're med weight (it's at 70% carry weight) to not fat roll, and your shield won't be working well because all it does is use your stamina bar as a shield and you have no stamina.

Leave Str/Dex alone for now, they won't scale very well until your weapon is +10. Just have enough of both to wield whatever weapon you like.

Put points into endurance and/or wear lighter armor so that you're medium weight instead of heavy. It will make the game a lot easier.

Yep, more points in Endurance.

Honestly thinking about restarting as an astrologer… the game seems more fun when using sorceries instead of trying to rely of faith and strength.
Well, if it’s any help, I rerolled Astrologer, was melting everything, but decided to go back to Confessor.

I feel like Souls are, at heart, a melee game. One shotting Margit from distance felt like a cheese. That’s not to say that there can’t be brutal fights as a caster, especially when up close.

I mistakenly thought if I remove all the other weapons and armour I collected that it would remove weight from my character..... which it clearly didn't. I took everything out except what I was using and my weight is still heavy. Like I said, it's the starting armour for Vagabond. I forgot the weapon I'm using but it's some kind of one handed sword that deals blood damage.

I'll definitely put more points in endurance but I'll need to put at least 10 points in there I think. :D You live and you learn I guess.

So I enter this room in Stormveil Castle only to hear the door shut and like a locking sound followed by a giggle. Punk ass knight standing there in the corner, big ass blade in his hand.

And all this with me just fresh off a Margit kill.

I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me !!!

Thanks I'll definitely put more points in endurance but the armor I'm using is like basic Vagabond armor. It can't be that heavy right? If I want to use better armor then I'm screwed if I'm struggling with the basic stuff. :D

Do you have several weapons and shields equipped at the same time? They all add to the weight.

You don't have enough endurance when you start a vagabond to use all their starting gear, you have to unequip some stuff completely or downgrade it to light armour that you've found. Just take stuff off until it moves from heavy load to medium load, then when you get more endurance you can add stuff back.

Just consider taking off some armor pieces for now. How many weapons are equipped? Fat rolling is easily fixed man don't sweat it.

Edit - forgot to hit refresh and didn't see all the replies. Sorry to be redundant. As the starter vagabond just pick one of the two weapons you start with and unequip the other. Lose a piece of armor and I think you should be good to go.

Now would be a really good time to take a long look at the Status and Equipment screens in the pause menu and try to make sense of the numbers though.

Best of luck.

Yes, but at the same time do all you can to get down to Medium Load, it's too much of a handicap otherwise.
... definitely wasnt recommending he stick with the fatty roll.

I get the feeling all or most of the weapons slots are full of stuff.

without getting into spoilers, some bosses have attacks that are literally impossible to dodge while on the horse

one of them could 1 hit KO me

I thought I was crazy so I did research, and according to the internet some attacks are literally impossible to dodge on your horse

hiding behind objects doesn't work too. the attack comes down directly from the sky and will hit you regardless of where you are.
Other bosses right? Because dragon and sentinel were extremely easy to avoid on horse.

Oh yes. Yes they do. People.
Lmao.

Btw i found a pair of pants, hurra!

Horse riding is by far the best thing in the game, i would be okay if this was a horse combat simulator.

Is anyone finding the lock on system a bit clunky, i mean clunkier than usual souls games?

A lot of times i move the stick but it doesn't change target, sometimes i click the stick and it lock on the wrong enemies (not the closest one) and sometimes when i defeat someone the lock doesn't automatically moven the closest enemy even if i have the option turned on.
Also the usual camera that sometimes turn crazy when locked on someone in small spaces, pretty annoying.

Can someone with a higher intelligence explain to me why the f* my holy sword can finish the first skelly like this and not these two?

The first one only has white smoke effect. The others have white and black. I don't what this means, if it's a bug, etc. But that's what I see.

There’s a melee spell that gives you the best of both worlds.

I just cleared Carian study hall and this encounter might genuinely be on par with bed of chaos for me. Literally just designed to be as annoying as possible and thats all there is to it.

Hehe, I hope you got him. I got surprised by the attack pattern, died many times. Some enemies I find tougher than Margit and Godrick so far. Might change now that I have the moon veil and the unsheath attack is bonker for staggering enemies.

Wait until you find out who did this to you.
I actually never found out who did it?

Was it not obvious as soon as it happened? There's only really one option.

He shows up after Godrick, anyway.

Also, fun fact, apparently if you die during that side-path through the castle, you always lose some of the runes you had because he's following you stealing them

So I have to ask out of curiosity, did any of you guys beat the tutorial boss? I went straight in.... that motherf*cker killed me in three hits. :(

I so wish I could get my revenge.

Yep.

I especially like the way he hit with arcane bow through the walls. That was super relaxing.

Jump attacks feel like a game changer in this. It works really well against some enemies and even knock them back sometimes. Jumping + Heavy Attack (RT/R2). Also on bosses, I used it a lot against

Leonine

and it took chunks out of his health bar and brought him to stagger a few times.

When I fought the boss sized enemy at the end of the tutorial area's stonesword key path and again under Stormveil, there were a few times when I thought I'd been swallowed but it was just lock-on camera/transparency fuckery. I've died a few times to that, because while I'm mashing shoulder buttons to "escape" I'm not blocking, so I take hits.

Nah, did you talk to someone when you arrived at the castle?

Thinking about it, if you went the side route I bet you could actually miss him

Finally made my way down to the Southern Peninsula and to the Castle down there.

Holy smokes, the art direction is just brutal. Seeing the enemies standing atop a hill of bodies with that dude tied to a post being burned alive, and then all the people hanging on top of the castle. Par for the course with these games but I dunno, just hit me hard and made me shudder. I made it to the boss but only did 1 attempt, will probably come back after I grind a bit more.

My focus tonight is to do the Red Bonnet girls side quest so she'll sell me smithing stones. I need to get my health bar up and level up my weapon a bit. I'm using a +2 halberd but it just isn't cutting it for most bosses. The Scimitar is good too but that's only +1.

Commander Niall is the worst boss in the game so far for someone who doesn't want to summon or use ashes. Getting ready to just say screw it and go beat the game. That area is all I have left.

What I am liking so far is this can be a very pick up and play kinda game and you always feel like making progress, for example I played for maybe 90 mins, cleared 2 caves, discovered a few cookbooks and churches and cleared more of the East side of the map

Thats where the BotW part comes out the most imo

Ive been using summons a lot, and I love it. Especially the jelly spirit, so far. But I dont have many yet. I found out in a tooltip that the glowing arch icon on the left indicates when you can summon. They put a lot of work into that mechanic, and I dont feel like there should be some esoteric rule to the game that every achievement in the game should be justified by whether or not you used a summon. It works better than the NPC summons from prior games which have a tendency to be too squishy and be of no use. While doubling the boss health pool.

Oh for sure, part of me is like "this game isn't too difficult" cause when I'm out in the open, I can manage most encounters and flee on Torrent when giant enemies appear.

Completely different in dungeons though, I can usually get through by the skin of my teeth but the mini-bosses generally wreck me. It's never too frustrating though cause the Grace Points are insanely generous, I love that about the game. I've never once felt like I was wasting my time, I always feel like I'm accomplishing something.

That dual boss against crucible knight and misbegotten warrior was……

screaming-crazy.gif

I did eventually beat it, but something inside me broke in the process.

Cheers Applause GIF

Very nice, still haven’t managed to beat him yet. I got my two skeleton summons to +2 as I like their revive feature and I’m in my 50’s level-wise. I can beat Misbegotten usually as I stun him with most of my attacks but Crucible Knight is a whole other story. If my skeletons could stay alive long enough when only Knight is left, I might manage but no luck, and he takes little damage. Maybe it’s my weapon, I’ve got a +5 Pickaxe, but want to eventually rock the Grafted Blade Greatsword* once my stats are high enough. *hey bro, we heard you like swords, so we put swords in your sword!

Although checking a guide, apparently beating it activates the festival, and I heard doing that early can fuck up Ranni’s quest, and main story-wise I’m only slightly past Godrick. I don’t want to mess up Ranni’s quest, as I definitely want to see more of her for, err, ahem, reasons.

Some people will call summons "cheating" while Googling where to get the most powerful weapons and magic in the game and using exclusively them. Others will call summons "cheating" while shield tanking every boss. Don't sweat it.
