Watch all the tutorials videos, play the tutorials. You'll get a good overview of the basics by doing that.
All the tutorials are being redone for 2.2 as well. Even I plan to redo them once 2.2 drops and I have hundreds of hours in the game.
There are also a lot of good community made videos explaining the basics. Some are out of date and things in the game have changed but most will give you a good idea of the basics.
There are loads of great community made tools/sites out there to use as well.
Do you only earn rank for say feds if the station is Controlled by a faction allied with them ? I've done a bunch of missions at this one station for all factions and one is feds but my bar ain't moving
What's the point of loading up with collection limpets if you can just launch one that continuously and automatically brings back your mined resources? I was individually targeting and launching the limpets, which made them expire after one collection. Then I accidentally launched one without targeting and it stuck with me for the rest of the mining session, bringing back resources.

Same for me. But I did rank up prior to trying it in Beta The Cutter on the other hand... <3I was ranking up to get a corvette myself, then the beta started and i tried an A graded one - i no longer want a corvette (just don't like it at all) and as such am not worried about ranking up anymore
Depends on your loadout. AFAIK the biggest Collector Limpet Controller can handle three of them at a time. On bigger ships you should use two of those to have 6 limpets at once. With those it's great to gather materials. You should not target mats that way though. What's the point of loading up with collection limpets if you can just launch one that continuously and automatically brings back your mined resources? Heard about the buff to the Type-7, right after I'd bought mine.. hehe. Can't complain, I think they're increasing the purchase price of the ship as well, so my timing worked out pretty well.
Sandro Sammarco said:Hello Commanders!
We have had a little bit more time and leeway in this beta period than we thought, which has allowed us to make moderate balance passes on the Keelback, and now, the Type 7.
Like the Keelback, these changes are not meant to fundamentally change the role of the ship (the concept for the Type 7 has always been a solid, specialised trader), just to enhance their capability in this role.
So, we're giving the Type 7 the following enhancements:
* 40% increase to base hull value
* 30% increase to base shields value
* 20% increase in hardness
Updated slot sizes:
OLD: 2x size 2, 2x size 4, 2x size 5, 2x size 6
NEW: 2x size 3, 3x size 5 and 3x size 6
On paper, these changes look very significant indeed. However, looking at comparisons with other vessels, we *think* that the Type 7 was simply getting a raw deal.
Even with the enhancements, the limited speed, manoeuvrability and offensive capabilities of the Type 7 should keep it firmly in the trading path.
These changes will drop in a beta forthcoming update. We hope you enjoy testing them.
You have to complete missions given by Fed people. Doesn't matter the controlling faction.
Are FSD Wake Scanners still a thing in the game? I have been to 10 or 15 stations which EDDB says may carry them, but have found nothing. I think I need one to collect some data for one of the engineers (Elvira?).

They do expire so having lots will help, plus if you are mining you use one limpet per prospector launch.

Buff to the T-7? What are they buffing on the T-7? I know they are going to buff the Keelback next beta update, but the T-7 too?
EDIT: nm, found it:
That's great, that ups the max cargo of the T7 from 292 to 304. At least now the large T7 will be a superior trading ship than the medium sized Python, as it should be. Although it's not much more cargo room, just barely more.
Now if they just add one size 1 internal to the DBE then ship balance will be in a pretty good spot for the most part.
After 3 days of grinding I have gone from rank 1 empire to almost rank 10. I'm trying to get to rank 12 by Monday. It's been slowing down but not too badly. Apparently rank 10 is the halfway mark to rank 12. So 0-10 is as long as 10-12.

Damn that Beluga is huge!
Not really. It all depends on what you are aiming for!Still kinda bizarre that the option of targetting a specific resource to collect leads to the expiration of the limpet after one use.
How are you doing it ? Where and what kind of missions, for who?

Selecting a mat/mining fragment only could be useful if you want to avoid getting crap all the time. Up until now venting the things you don't want ends up getting it again due to the stupid collectors. This changes in 2.2 though. So, say you just want to get the high value fragments, you select them and a limpet will get them and die. That way you leave all the crap out there. This is especially useful on smaller cargo hold ships like the ASP.
That being said, I'm out of low level materials like nickel, sulphur and such. Seems like I need to get my Mining back up and running for a bit God, why can't we get those mats by other means
Can I take that to mean there's more to talk about, ie more content.
the next big patch for this season is coming soon.Horizons is on sale for 20 and I'm strongly considering picking it up. Worth it?
Maybe i'm crazy, but I feel like I've seen this thread on the front page a lot over the past couple of months. Can I take that to mean there's more to talk about, ie more content. Horizons is on sale for 20 and I'm strongly considering picking it up. Worth it?

Can you not turn in exploration data to level up Elvira? I keep reading that but don't see any option to turn it in (X1).
So I got a tip off mission to go and scan the data cores at a shipwreck. I go to the exact coordinates and there's nothing there. A bit of a drive away though there is a shipwreck with a few canisters of commodities, but no data cores visible. Is it possible I'm at the wrong shipwreck? Do I need to do something at the shipwreck to find/free the data cores?
I'm not familiar with every mission but you aren't supposed to pick anything up ? Also yes sometimes you get to a place but it's only half the mission and when you cruise around they update you with new location.
I can't imagine selling my aspX. It's my favorite ship so far, even over the Conda.
I was supposed to scan data cores but I couldn't find any.
Er, Ray Gateway in Diaguandri suddenly doesn't have outfitting or commodities market for me. Maybe restarting will fix.
Pretty sure it was either UA bombed or put in a lockdown state
Bummer. It's my go to station for new modules/ships.
Sure, I'm just whinging.
I usually go to George Lucas in Leesti (I mean, lookit my username <----, of course I would). They don't have everything, and the selection changes now and again, but they've got a pretty good selection, and usually have what I'm looking for when I go there. I also tend to use it as a trading hub, but I haven't done it lately.Bummer. It's my go to station for new modules/ships.
I'm officially a billionaire. Can't believe I had only 10 mil. a couple of weeks ago and been struggling with money since the beginning. Sothis, you served me well my friend.

I'm at about 850 million in credits. Slowed down doing my sothis runs as I was getting burned out. Besides, driving the SRV around is super fun.
Interesting the Python, FDL, FAS, and Asp Explorer are all relatively the same size.
I heard they're supposed to be nerfing Sothis runs in the patch? I might wait to see what the next big money-maker is after that. I've been playing since Beta and still can't buy an Anaconda. The life of an explorer, I suppose.
