ESPNU, a multi-media college sports initiative including a new 24-hour television network, will launch on Friday, March 4, 2005, it was announced by Burke Magnus, ESPNU Vice President and General Manager.

The "03-04-05" launch date will help tip off the next day's start of Championship Week, ESPN and ESPN2's annual franchise featuring comprehensive coverage of men's and women's college basketball conference tournaments. ESPNU's first week of programming will include approximately 25 additional live conference tournament games (not currently on ESPN or ESPN2).

First tragedy, then farce.
I dont get it.. is it basically ESPN 3 with a different name?

Hopefully this means they will start to carry college baseball in earnest... but if this turns into more field hockey or shit that NO ONE cares about (see ESPN2 or Fox Sports during the day) I could really care less... and yeah, ESPN news is a great idea.. "hey, its like sportscenter on a 24 hour loop, but shittier". The press conferences are the only good part about it, but they cut in and out of those and talk over them anyway so who cares.

and ESPN classic sucks. Granted they didnt start that network, but horribly editing the games down to the 'important' parts is retarded.. show the WHOLE FUCKING GAME.. also, showing "new classics' from a week ago is stupid.. its not a new classic its filler programming.. just like the rest of that network. At least some of the NFL films stuff is cool.

I can't wait until we get to ESPN 8, with Cotton McKnight and Pepper Leach doing play by play. Don't mess with "The Ocho", baby!!

It's already a College Sports Network. I watch it on my phone. They show stuff like....volleyball.

I hope they don't put normal espn/espn2 conference games we are accustomed to on this espn u station. I am sure dish network won't be getting this station, and don't want to miss out.

Heh, espn (although they have gotten better) doesn't show that much live HD to begin with, so I don't see the rush for espn hd 2.

I'd much rather have more options to watch college sports, but only if I can get the station. I am just worried they will move existing college basketball games from espn/espn2 to this espnu station, and my providor won't get that, that will stink.

if you're a big fan of college basketball, ESPN2HD is a really nice thing to have. They broadcast a pretty decent amount of games on it in HD, and having it would give me the opportunity to watch several more of my school's games in full HD glory.

I get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, and ESPN Classic...maybe I'll get this too?

I love ESPNEWS so so very much.
