Also everyone saying that pass backwards is ok is getting it wrong, it's about whether the player you are passing to is behind you, not the direction the ball goes.

Navas was certainly offside from the first pass.

Yeah, that's a problem with the current iteration of the offside rule - he was offside and ultimately gained an [admittedly only slight] advantage from doing so.
