Everyone wants to hate the Xbox Series S, but.....

And the idea that games will look exactly the same is horseshit, we've dealt with a whole year of people claiming PS5 will have a PERCEIVABLE graphical deficit compared to Series X because of TWO teraflops and now we're pretending this thing will look just the same? Again, absolute horseshit.

On the other hand though, it sounds like you agree the PS5 will have a PERCEIVABLE graphical deficit compared to Series X.

Depending on your home network setting, why not use the console streaming? Less lag than xCloud and should be better on Series X (theoretically) . You can stream it to PC or Android, so a Fire TV stick should be enough.
I personally wouldn't play any action or quick paced games (except you know what ^^) in the bed room, so I wouldn't focus that much on lag on your case.

Why don't you try out the console streaming and/or xCloud first and later you can decide what system to buy? I don't think, that the Series S will be sold out. By then we should have enough information and experience about the consoles and you can decide for yourself, if the Series S is enough for the bedroom or not.

I think every metric matters when it comes to performance from a console, yes. The advantage PS5 has is that they have actual exclusives designed to take advantage of that hardware but what happens between third party games is up in the air, but I don't expect there to be a plethora of DF videos telling us there's no difference at all, I mean, their whole job is telling you there is one. Basically if 2 Teraflops makes a difference then you can be damn sure 8 makes a difference.

That doesn't sound sensible, though. If you're going to save 200 to go eat somewhere or go on a trip then you're not being SENSIBLE like one person said because this console will last 7-10 years. I dont know how to break this to you, but outside of this board, regular people don't see spending $300 on gaming as "sensible", let alone $500.

Who are you to tell them a new phone that they will potentially use hundreds of hours more than the casual game console deserves thier time and money? Your priority is not thier priority.

I didn't say what deserves their money. I'm talking about what is or isn't sensible. BTW, phones that cost hundreds of dollars aren't sensible, it's a fucking phone.

Then those people (who are allegedly very poor) should wait to buy their Series S until one year after the first next-gen exclusive game releases (which would probably mean Fall of 2022). It'll probably be $199 or less by then.

That's actually probably true, and it will likely be $199 or $249 next year. Its also likely when they will sell the most series s.

I'm still thinking on getting one... Was waiting for nvidia or AMD to announce their mid-range (6600 or 3060) cards since I don't give a single fuck about 4K or even 1440p (I could for the later but not right now).

Some of us just feel we're wasting money on a feature we won't use (4K).

To be fair, 4K is very niche in most of the world, and for people who game TVs under 40", even 1080p can be uncommon.

Actually, outside of USA, 4K isn't even close to be an option for most, let alone 1440p which is very VERY niche here latinamerica which make the options very limited and expensive.

But even then, there's just people like me who really don't care about 4K as long as they can play their games, many of us were already complaining for months because 4K was making consoles more expensive for those that won't use it for a while (for whatever reason).

And yes, $300 vs $500 is A LOT in here... Like, srsly, A LOT. Let's say most people in Colombia don't even earn $400/month and we're not even the lowest paid in the continent in average, yet some of them like gaming so try to go cheap by financing, pirating or waiting for months or years till games prices go down. I actually know people that stopped pirating because of XGP on their Xbones since it's a great deal for them.

You could easily reverse that statement and swap phone for video game system. You and I see value in gaming as high, for others the phone would be the high value item.

So, here would be the real difference... if the only smart phones in existence all cost 400 dollars I'd never buy a smart phone. If the only next gen consoles were 400-500 dollars with no 300 dollar option? These people would still buy a next-gen console.

I bought it for the form factor and because I mostly want to play classics on it. And its not expensive though the Digital PS5 is only 100 more expensive.

Do you guys have a used market with relatively cheap PC parts? I wouldn't be messing with next-gen consoles in your case (they'll probably be locked down tight for years). I'd get my hands on a gaming PC, an eye patch, and a peg leg.

You might not, but they would. And they would skip the console and game on older ones or on thier phone.

If you literally can't handle spending an extra 200 dollars then there's nothing sensible about how you live your life.

No one is too poor to afford a 400 dollar smart phone if they have PATIENCE.

No, they said that any first party games they make for the first 2 years will be on Xbox One as well. The Series S will be supported as long as the X is because they're the same console, the S is just spec'd down appropriately for 1080p-1440p.

Oh god no, that looks terrible lol. Would absolutely stick out like a sore thumb in pretty much any entertainment centre too.

True, it probably would bad in most, my upstairs TV stand is white and grey though..........
Downstairs I really shouldn't care, its in a closet......lol

Extra 200? My smart phone cost me 80 lol. It does everything I need it to do... I make calls, receive calls and can look up bullshit on the internet. Smart phone prices are stupid, there isn't anything amazing someone can do who spent hundreds more than me, I know, because people in my family have expensive ones lol. It's nowhere near comparable to the difference between video game consoles. But whatever, that's priorities, I don't care about a smart phone, this whole conversation is predicated on people who CARE about video games, I mean they must, they're buying the newest console at launch, right? I don't give two shits about smart phones.

I think PC gaming is more expensive everywhere lol, apart from for those claiming that they rather spend on PC so then games are "free forever"

I don't actively want to hate. I just do.

Honestly though, I don't hate it. It's just not for me, I kinda ignore it's there. Not "real" next gen for me.

the fanboys seem to want to compare the Series S to the PS5: DE for no reason other than console warring, the Series S is NOT a Discless Series X, its solely designed as the "second xbox", for the kids rooms where they want to play the new games with their friends and most likely only have a 1080p hand me down tv from the living room, or as a cheap entry into next gen where Game Pass is the main draw.

This is NOT a console thats designed to go under that fancy 4k tv in your living room.

It is a console for people who do not wanna spend 500$. Yes it is significantly worse product then PS5DE for just 100$ more in every fucking way.
But Sony is turning into king cunts and I do not wanna support them at this point. So Series S it is.

Perfect for my daughter who doesn't and won't have a 4k TV for years in her bedroom. I think it will be a hit for parents who appreciate a cheaper console+Game Pass for their kids. Especially in the age of $70 games.

Kids are also not going to give a shit if a game runs at 900p. Ryse was 900p on Xbone and it was still beautiful.

One upstairs, one downstairs, that leaves the bedroom for something. I could keep our last xbox one x for it, but something tells me once I get used to ssd loading I won't want it. Selling it would pretty much pay for an s, or half a x.
You don't need a console for every room in the house

There is tons of hate on the Series S box, but people have to say:
- its a poor value vs the series X
- its killing next gen, dragging it down with lower spec
- it will confuse consumers

So now, with that out of the way......

There is something odly compelling out the box.....

- really nice form factor (size)
- is still a fair amount cheaper, especially when sales taxes are taken into account in some places
- while not 4k, still has good backwards compatibility
- will play new games, even at a lower resolution - supports many new hardware features
- loads games much faster than previous gen

In my house, we will have 2 xbox series x machines, and a ps5. (Dont judge, this was paid for by selling ps4 pro and xbox one x machines we sold 2 months ago at top dollar that I bought on optimum points) So one tv left to get a box for, a 49" tv about 10ft away in the bedroom.
A series X, or the strangely compelling series S?

Everyone who has no interest on Xbox wants to hate the Xbox Series S, but.....

FTFY

The console is perfect for casual gamers who are the vast majority of console gamers. Affordable, more juice than what we would have as main consoles hadn't the Xbox One X/PS4 Pro been a thing and the funny thing is it will perform much better than base Xbox One especially but also the PS4 throughout the whole generation. Base Xbox One struggled to do 1080 30 in most games, the XSS might start showing it's age towards the end of next gen but it won't be nowhere near as bad as the base consoles this gen. I mean, it can run Gears 5 that is by no means an old looking game at 120fps without compromising visual quality.

Plus all this talk about performance when the millions and millions of people who bought Xbox One and PS4 couldn't care less it can only do mostly 30fps at 1080p or even lower in some cases.

And MS already stated games will just scale down from XSX so no, it's not going to drag down how games look on other platforms. I wonder how much this was a thing here when last gen first launched because I really don't see it in the sales. 150+ millions console sold...

I don't think everyone hates but certain fanboys seem very threatened by it.
I plan on getting one someday for my living room.

Interesting. So you support Xbox, the side that constantly and repeatedly lie about everything. And you support their lies.

I am basically going to be using it as my local remote streaming box, it's going to be a tough hit for my Switch usage. If i can stream locally all my indie rogue-lite games and jrpg's to my phone, I am golden.

Now we know it's full RDNA2 those features are really going to help the Series S. Once the launch period is out of the way we'll see games taking advantage of what are still next gen CPU and SSD solutions.

Ive ordered one to go with my Series X, looking forward to it. It's a nice small console at a good price.

I support the side that ll give me(IMHO) better gaming experience for the best price.

Also I was with PS this gen and there is no Sony exclusive I liked no matter how they try to hypnotize me with shiny graphics. Writing in their games suck, gameplay is always shallow as fuck and MS seem like ll try to win back audience Next Gen the way Sony did with their PS3 games. At the wery least we ll have good multiplayer n GamePass.

I can't wait to see the first engines that start supporting DirectStorage and VRS properly.

I think it's a very good entry to gaming . For just $299 you will be able to play so many titles from the past few years with better performance and not missing out on any upcoming titles . As of now , you can barely buy an RTX2060 alone with $299 that show how good of a value the Series S is .

it would be good 2nd console for a bed room or something or a very casual player. Nothing wrong with having options.

Why do you guys sound like advertisements all using the same buzz words as each other.

Why are you so triggered by the Series S existing and some people liking it. If you don't like it.... Don't get it.

Personally I had an S preordered as it was going to be by secondary console, but I cancelled and swapped to the X because of bathesda purchase and gamepass. Now its going to be my main.

A lot of my friends who are sticking with playstation as their main have preordered or are thinking about getting the S. It's budget friendly and allows them to play the games they'd normally miss out on.

I don't give a damn for other people opinion about it, specially since most the ones that criticizes it here actually criticizes everything related to Xbox.

I pre-ordered the Series S and the plan is to keep it until mid-gen when I might also buy a PS5 Slim and / or change the Series S to an Series X when price drops.

I play Nintendo Switch mostly docked and love it. Series S is a much stronger console with all the 3rd party support, that will handle all the next-gen games (even if not with the same performance as PS5/SX) and with Game Pass and an awesome backwards compatibility.

There's nothing wrong with the console for the price it's being charged! It's pretty awesome actually!

It probably will play games just fine but the 512GB SSD makes it a confusing purchase because you will need to buy the $220 drive eventually.

That phrase comes to mind......Haters gonna hate! :messenger_grinning_smiling: Too right the fact that it has backward compaitbilty is HUGE to this DAY: Burnout Revenge, Rockstar Table-Tennis, Panzer Dragoon, MGS-Trilogy, Republic Commando, Virtua Fighter 5 has not been bettered...

Well that's patently false. There are lots of people who can't justify $500 for a toy and for whom it doesn't make sense to spend that much money. Entertainment isn't a right to be earned and expecting people who want to play games to just "work harder and wait you dirty poor" is a horrible, douchebag take. Having an option that allows people to access the ecosystem is something that I'm glad companies like Microsoft and Nintendo are doing with lower cost hardware, even if it's a lower spec. I wish Sony would also do it.

I hear what you're saying, but, isn't the whole point of what ms and gamepass is doing being available on a bunch of devices and doesn't that give people access without needing an s? Can't they have access to these games on their existing tablet or pc?
and Sony did make a more affordable console. $100 less than the disc version and maintained the same specs.

The Series S is what sold me on next gen actually. I'm a gamer dad on a budget so the $299 and $60 games are what is going to put the box under my TV. My kids are very little (under 7) so all the bells and whistles mean nothing to our gaming family. We are very excited for the gamepass and the fact that next gen is barely over $300

I was impressed at the size of the PS5 next to IJustine. Someone found a way to make something bigger than her head. Merv Griffin would lover her.

Whilst we are here we cancel series x and PS5. They are holding back the nvidia 3080.

I love the look of the console and how compact it is, but I'm not the target audience so it's existence doesn't appeal to me. If it doesn't end up holding games back, cool. But if it does, then I'm going to be baffled by the decision to even make it.

Pretty much my take. If gta 6 ends up downgraded so they can support that box, fuck Microsoft for life. Except Forza, Turn 10 can do no wrong.

It's a nice little second console aimed more so at the casual market than dedicated gamers.

Some pig headed fucking snobs just can't and won't accept that though. Best to ignore those arseholes.

outside form factor i see nothing interesting in S
And If you really want a cheap experience not locked to gamepass content opting for it is not a wise choice because lot of third party will not be on it and you don't want to have to wait for cheap price on a digital store with no concurrence.
