"The favorite won" only equals boring if you're watching only for upsets. It's also the only reason why I can think someone would find last year's AE boring. Daigo v. Gamerbee in top 8 nearly gave me a heart attack.

Daigo and Tokido doing ST at Evo, fun. So Daigo won't be sitting around looking bored, lol.

Still remember how at one of the tournaments Daigo was playing HDR for what looked like the first time and was basically learning the differences with Guile as the tournament progressed (you could see him adjusting on the fly and being surprised at certain things not working), then getting comfortable in the end and winning the whole thing.

Wow that's a lot of posts already, only went up yesterday.

Last year I felt Chris G should have won. I can't see him not winning Evo, unless he encounters bizarre tech from someone who has an idea how to play Morridoom.

That was also the tournament where Tokido gained the "Murderface" moniker, IIRC.

Daigo vs Tokido: Daigo was in rare form, constantly smiling and laughing. And Tokido just looked furious. It was the most hilarious juxtaposition.

I might just watch these for the Japanese hype. The same reason why I choose spanish language broadcasts of soccer games.

It's so fun reliving awesome moments like that.

Zero is going to be the story of EVO.

edit: Man it was crazy thinking back the run Dieminion had at EVO. He beat Uryo, Mago and Fuudo.

If Vanilla SF4 was still alive would Sagat still be the best character or would it be Akuma?

And Zero probably won't win EVO but the chance isn't nil, it's certainly a possibility. One Zero team is likely in top 8, 2-3 is unlikely but possible and anything above that would be a big anomaly.

I would say a "standard" UMVC3 top 8 would look like this:

3-4 Doom
2-3 Vergil
1-2 Magneto
1-2 Wolverine
1 Morrigan
1 Wesker
1 Nova
1 Spencer
1 Zero
1 Dante
1 Sentinel
1 Strider
1 Viper
1 Haggar
1 Dormammu
1 of these characters: Ammy, Akuma, Strange, Storm, MODOK, Taskmaster, Hawkeye
1 character that is sort of rare in top 8

That's pretty much what the top 8s of UMVC3 have looked like on average for the past majors. Aside from the first 3-4 characters a top 8 generally has good balance of characters in it.
It's like P4A. Mitsuru is the best character but Teddie is the character that can fight Mitsuru. O.Sagat is Mitsuru.
Does that mean Yu is Ryu and Chie is Seth?

Edit: Fixed

True, if it's not Chris G, it may be one of the thousand Zero players. that 50/50 at the beginning of the match can be the end of Morrigan.

I believe in a Shuma or a MODOK winning, they are the characters i use, i want to see someone take them to the top (Angelic/Moons/Frutsy, do it for me).

Though yes, a Zero trilogy could kill pretty much any player.

A criclejerk of hate is still a circlejerk.

Yup it was a circle jerk for the original series.
Damn you edited before I could say Yu is vanilla Ryu. Trade Ultra and super trap made vanilla interesting.
Every post I make has about 50 edits :D

Trade ultra was a bit dumb, the trap stuff was interesting though.

Or playing Vega.
So who beat Sagat in SF4? Viper?
I like games where a bad guess loses you 60% of your health.
I like that too, but the trade wasn't really a bad guess it was more of a reward for someone having to make less good guesses than you with a tool that covers multiple things.

Basically both players make a bad guess but the ryu player gets rewarded

Vega just sounds like a straight up counter pick instead of a character who was actually top tier (unless I am mistaken amd he really was top tier).
