F-Zero GX : Do you want more and more ?

I think F-Zero GX can be considered the best experience I have had with my GC. I was literally hooked to the system for nearly a month and the game gave an gave me a lot. But when I beat the history mode + unlocked everything...well, there only remained the multiplayer and well...playing split screen in a 14" TV is something that I really don't love...
Don't get me wrong ! F-Zero GX is without any kind of doubts a long game but it is a so cool experience that I always wanted more and more. I was under the impression that a lot of people here experienced the same. Perhaps the inclusion of online would have helped a lot and we sure would be still playing it but well...we know what happened.
Now we can look to the future and consider that GC can still give us a few surprises at E3. Sure F-Zero GX 2 won't be one of them but what the hell...to dream is free. I would be thrilled with a simple iteration: just more tracks and tracks and style...tons of style.

It's hard to see why it bombed (did it ?). We are in front of one of the nicest arcade racing experiences this gen. It was fast, it was nice, it had good music and it had length....A pity. 3 Mario Partys per gen yet only one F-Zero !

Best game this generation for me: talking about hours put in (I have put 10 times more hours in FZero than any other game this generation!).

I find the game too fast to work well with the track design. I mean, going as fast as you do, only to have to negotiate a turn like this:

Z

That's no fun.

The harder tracks are more guilty of this than the earlier stuff. The game is great tho, it's just too fast.

I agree - the game kicked my ass in the beginning, but one you "get it" it's awesome. Just wish there was an easier way to unlock the AX tracks....

Nagoshi said he'd like to do an expansion disc for GX... maybe throw in more tracks/vehicles/parts, LAN options and a track editor. :)

An expansion disc would be outright godly. I've always wondered why they never do them for racing games... after a while, you have done all you can in the game or need something to reignite interest.

Mario Kart is a perfect candidate for expansion too. They could make up for the poo battle arenas.

Amusement Vision should focus on F-Zero Revolution and Daytona Revolution for 2006-2007.
I wouldn't mind seeing AV take over Wave Race too. And I'm not sure Sega's really authorized to make anymore Daytonas... maybe Super GT 2 would be better?

Yeah this became my favorite racing game of all time after playing it

just an amazing game and those Z curves were fun as hell to take

it was all about finding an arcade and playing in the arcade beating all the courses unlocked them and the rainbow phoenix that way

the rainbow phoenix just owned every track in the game

My favorite racer too. Well, I don't know. F-Zero X is freakin' awesome too. Actually, I think F-Zero X edges out in track design and sountrack. But undoubtedly GX's graphics, options, sense of speed, and just "holy f-ck" factor are unrivaled.

I would enthusiastically support the release of an expansion.

it's heaps of fun when you've got the skill to slide and drift turn around those corners without even touching the sides. it's most certainly a difficult challenge but all the more satifying once you practice enough to master the tracks.

Something I have yet to do for all of them. I still need to unlock AX tracks and crafts.

I would. Eitherway, I don't expect AV to be involved again. The future of F-Zero looks to be to combine it with the anime. Prob the same team doing the GBA ones will be doing the next-gen F-Zero.

Next thing i want is F-Zero XDS.

Fuck no!
The anime SUCKS!

AV were heading 150% in the right direction!

Eh, outside of the graphics I much, much prefer F-Zero X. And even then, I think the simpler and less chaotic graphics have a certain charm that allows me to enjoy the gameplay more. GX's graphical work borders on the distracting, and I felt the music, track design and controls were inferior to F-Zero X. I gave it several weeks of practice and training and beat most of the main game (minus in the unfun and unforgiving story mode) but I really haven't touched it since. F-Zero X entertained me consistently for several years and I'd still rather go back to that one.

I'll take an expansion to Wave Race: Blue Storm though, by far my favorite racer of this generation.

True. The more I play, the better I get... But I don't play enough.

Well, there's quite a big F-Zero time trial competition scene online ( check out www.mrfixitonline.com )

There's loads and loads of special stuff to learn if you want to compete for fast times easily adding another 50-100 hours to the game.

It's way too hard, there are still 2 cups I havent unlocked. It's a lot of fun, but I just suck. I need to get better. I am using the logitech force feed back wheel with the pedals, and it is awesome.

Interesting please tell us more. Because I have heard that it is virtually impossible to play with the wheel, and the wheel is the only way I plan to play the game. Also what view do you use to play? Have you played using the first person perspective? I can imagine the immersion of playing with the wheel AND in first person view! Drool.

Isamu forget about wheels, 1000" TFTS or whatever you claim you need and if you really own it like you said go and play it.
Shit you are going to enjoy it, don't be silly.

F-Zero X was a steaming pile of shit. And if you think graphics are distracting now, wait a few years and see what happens to the racing genre. Long live AV's F-Zero series! Would love to see one on Revolution.

I wouldn't call it a steaming pile of shit, no. But I agree that F-Zero X isn't even in the same galaxy of quality as F-Zero GX. But that's just my opinion.

I'm not sure Suzac could really handle a full blown 3D F-Zero... look how NdCube's effort turned out (Tube Sliders). I doubt EAD wants to bring it internal again either... GX was a decent success too, even managing to match it's predecesssor in sales (something none of NST's racers have ever managed). I don't see why F-Zero wouldn't be given to Sega again, or maybe even Namco next time. Either could craft an amazing Wave Race too, with stunning visuals to match the physics engine this time.

The only problem I had with Fzero GX is that your eyes would always hurt after fixating your eyes in spot and not blinking when playing the game. =\

Not only is this game one of my favourite this gen (definatly best racer) but it actually has unlockables worth beating the hard difficulties for.

I would kill for an expansion (w/trackbuilder!) but I think its unlikely because of poor sales figures.
