I don't see how people can be so divided about Fable.
At the very least, it's not like any RPG or action/adventure game on the PS2/Gamecube. I mean, I can't think of any.
It's got an interesting art style, voice talent in spades, a brilliant soundtrack, and a premise which caused so many of you to stick through to the end.
I won't continue playing a game if it has bad controls, horrible graphics, glitches, or just boring gameplay. The game is averaged at about 12 hours. That's Prince of Persia's length. I find it highly unlikely that any of you sat down at Fable for that long or even 7 hours of one sitting, and if you did, you must really love the game.
Based on my experience with Fable so far, it seems like a shorthand action game with some interesting sandbox concepts thrown about. It's not deep, but it's entertaining as an action/adventure game. I'm not saying "OMG I'm bored to death make this stop."
