YEAH, BECAUSE THAT WORKED SO WELL LAST TIME.

Seriously, someone needs to call German on his parental skills.

Nagi no Asukara 20-26 (END)

I really loved this series. Can understand why others didn't though.

The artwork and animation in the show is beautiful. The character designs (especially Chisaki, best girl) weren't too bad either. I'm a sucker for romance and this show was chalked full of it. It wasn't always pulled off the most gracefully though, and I'll admit that.
There were so many instances of people running off after confessions, mostly Manaka, Chisaki, and Miuna. As well as countless scenes of people pining...mostly for Hikari.
The anime definitely could have been about 4-5 episodes shorter, there were quite a few episodes where there seemed to be minimal to no story progression.

As for some other things...
I kinda hated how so many people got Ena in the end, but I guess they had to do something like that. I also love how they pulled that story about the Lady loving the Sea God and her children more than her land lover even if it wasn't portrayed that way. But getting that out of the way, the relationship dynamics were interesting. I think I enjoyed the interactions between the 5 (and later 7) main characters because I emphasized with them all, especially Kaname. His whole relationship with Tsugumu and Chisaki reminded me a lot of myself. Speaking of those two...I still don't completely like Tsugumu...and I can't put my finger on why. But I think Chisaki did love him in the end, despite her reluctance to admit it. I felt bad for Miuna, considering she liked Hikari so much...but it was pretty much destined for Hikari and Manaka to get together. The scene where Sayu confesses to Kaname is definitely one of my favorites, due mostly to Kaname finally showing some emotion.

The music was well done and the second OP was great! Great series.

Thanks to everyone for responses. I guess my personal problem is that on weekdays at least I really don't have a lot of free time in the evening and I'm godawful at scheduling/not wasting my own time besides, plus I want to try and stay as current with everything as I can. It's probably not as big an issue for a lot of people as it winds up being for me.

Also I was going to try and expand my hobby list to more stuff beyond anime/games as a new year resolution -- besides trying to exercise more so I'm not so pathetically sedentary -- but there's a lot I want to watch/play backlogged in those two categories already beyond new things coming out soon. Like I said, terrible at self-management etc etc.

Speaking of Winter season though this is what I lined up for myself.
Yuri Kuma Arashi -- I feel like I should be wearing an "I survived Penguindrum" shirt for this or something
Kancolle -- More profitable than Touhou, at least
Shinmai Maou no Testament -- Poor man's DxD? Might drop if it gets boring
Saenai Heroine -- Hopefully this works out better than the last time noitaminA tried a LN adaptation
Koufuku Graffiti -- The signature Shaft style as applied to food porn
Idolmaster Cinderella Girls -- Depends on how well they can balance the cast
Death Parade -- The first real payoff from Anime Mirai
Jojo -- Can't wait for
D'arby poker game
ISUCA -- Willl give it an episode or two. My other possible drop if needed
Aldnoah S2 -- Against my better judgment, probably, but I'll see how stupid it gets
Rolling Girls -- Looks really neat visually.
Junketsu no Maria -- From what I understand the manga is only three volumes so this should be complete, which is always nice for an adaptation.

Continuing Shirobako, and I'll also be trying out something I'd planned, which was moving Unlimited Blade Works to this season as a weekly backlog show so I can watch the whole thing straight through without a cour break in-between (which had caused some problems for me with F/Z).

Also, now even DestinyGAF has a podcast. We really are the laziest community. :p
I'd be interested in an AnimeGAF podcast, either listening or participating. Not like there's a surplus of good anime discussion podcasts. In fact, I'm not even aware of one.

I don't think i'd like to listen to a podcast where 90% of it is talking about how much they don't like a show or why X director and X studio is shit the whole time.

I'd rather listen to what people like, because it's more enjoyable and would make me want to go seek out shows like that. I just don't think AnimeGAF as a collective podcast effort can make a positive-sounding podcast or find good in shows they don't like.

You can't like everything though. Otherwise, what's the point?

I do one that like a handful of people listen to. Since I've had three gaffers on, I suppose that's the closest we'll ever get. lol

There are other podcasts like ANN or AWO, and I know that A3K apparently has a whole network of podcasts, but finding a podcast that where I know the people and respect their opinions is the hard part. I'm sure I've made my feelings on the ANNCast clear many times. lol

That was the best scene.

I mean, yeah, not liking stuff is going to happen, and that's fine.

I just don't think it'd take much for it to spiral into a consistent hate-fest of things people don't like now that they'd have a soapbox.

I mean, if I even sneezed the word TRIGGER, i'd expect a 45 minute Imaishi hate-on fest and how they should die as a studio after LWA2. Much like what happened here only a few days ago. I don't think i'd like to listen to that at all.

If there could be reasonable and tempered discussion, like some of the huge writeups good people do, weighing both pros and cons, then i'd be more inclined to listen.

Them accurate notes! So good.

AnimeGAF is probably big enough to have many diverse opinions, so depending on who you have on the show, you'd probably avoid that anyway. You just don't want a circle-jerk cast or you basically end up with ANNCast whenever they review anime.

I guess it really does depend on who you'd put on it. I just imagine it and basically think of an opposite ANNcast, where there's still no middle-ground.

No way to find out until it really happens.

Rahxephon episode 1-9

It's Eva by Bones. I wonder what the connect between Haruka and Hayato is?
They're supposed to be the same age, so lovers, friends, siblings?

That's probably why I've been enjoying the newly started Anime Now! podcast which is just the host and one other person reviewing a single show after its done. And at least so far its about shows the people like. The last episode about Tamako Market was nice.

On the other I also listen to Dynamite in the Brain, despite the people mostly having tastes the opposite of mine and talk about shows I don't give a fuck about (KLK, One Piece, HxH, JoJos, GUNDAM, etc). I think I listen because they amuse me, and its a non US view of anime.

Anime Addicts Anonymous Podcast. I'm entertained despite not agreeing a lot of the time. I guess because they aren't really mean about it. Plus there's a non male perspective there and for a good while it was done from Japan so it added something extra. Of course with my favourite member of the team not on every week all the time anymore my ethusiasm has dimmed a bit.

Eh, with any community, I guess it depends on who would make it. I personally am rarely all that harsh with any show. I can go, "sigh, that again" with some tropes like anyone else, but typically speaking if you're trying to make a solid show, you tend to want to balance personalities and viewpoints. The people who are harshly critical are only part of the community, after all.

Well since Crunchyroll don't work I'll just watch Bahamut or Ping-Pong on Funimation......

...................

When did all of Funimation's simulcasts start requiring a subscription?

Midonin

I was able to watch Barakamon a few months ago without a subscription, now it's locked behind a paywall.
I'm not seeing that it is. Most shows should be subscriber only for their debut week and then become free.

I will never subscribe to funi. Not enough content.
I've got some of their shows in my backlog, and this season alone they have plenty of new shows I'm watching, so I'm sticking with it for now.

I mean, they're simulcasting only 8 shows TOTAL this season and about half of those will be continuing simulcasts and endless shounen. Clearly this is worth paying $8 a month for.

Well for me, when I try to watch the first episode of Bahamut or Ping Pong, it pops up the paywall.

Can I get someone who doesn't subscribe to Funimation to try watching an episode of something and see if a paywall comes up.

Ronja 3

Ronja goes out and explores the forest. Find a sweet river.

Finds an awesome lake

Finds a nice rock and falls asleep. And forgets she's supposed to be home before sun down.

Nothing really happens this episode until the end where meet the dwarves of the forest, who are really these owl looking things

Pretty creepy.

The CG really isn't that bad though. Sometimes when she's running around it looks funny, but other than that it's pretty good. Background art is godlike though. The show is a little slow though and I can't finish it without taking a break inbetween.

Cajun, there better be a goddamn massacre within the next few episodes if you want me to believe this is more despair-filled than Madoka. Health issues do not count.

Rough ranking of the Fall shows that I watched:

Really liked
YuYuYu
Celestial Method
Inou-Battle
SAO II -- Mother's Rosario arc

Liked
Grisaia
SAO II -- Calibur arc

Varied a lot episode-to-episode between Liked and Okay
Mushishi

Okay but lazy adapataions
Vanadis (lazy LN adaptation)
Lost Future and Daitoshokan (lazy VN adaptations -- Daito had a lot of really funny faces though)

Boring but inoffensive
GF Beta

Anime original wackiness tier
Akame ga Kill

Fuck you Bones/Kadokawa a.k.a. worse anime original wackiness tier
Chaika Avenging Battle

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Psycho-Pass 2

Also I dropped Twintails at ep.4 and Trinity Seven at ep.6. Probably should have dropped Vanadis/Daito/Waremete at some point too, but I liked the characters enough for the former and wanted to at least see out the stories of the latter two to their end.

Some other shows are still in backlog, like UBW.

I'll give them a shot. I can always use more podcast material for while i'm at work.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet 4

Slower episode but it had a point to say about this culture's lifestyle being largely slow and carefree which isn't exactly gelling with Ledo's militaristic upbringing at this point. I'd imagine it means more in the big picture, but some of the stuff even in hindsight was weird. Like when Ledo and Amy went to the elder and he didn't give much advice or any significant worldbuilding, he just said go see Amy's younger bro which they were going to do anyway. This episode made me think of a future socialist utopia with everyone catching the rain water at the end, and the stuff about caring for the sick for caring's sake.

About the flashback...I'm going to predict, but nobody reply to this, that
Ledo was brain-washed into being a soldier.

Just read gangbang doujin or something jebuz

I think its safe to say its not gonna live your expectation bro.

So for anyone who has a normal full-time job -- and I mean a normalish 9-to-5 daytime gig, not a weird setup like cajunator has or something -- and you're nonetheless planning on watching 10+ shows from the upcoming season... how are you scheduling all that?

Or maybe no one else is that crazy/stupid and I'm just the odd one out.

Well compared to 2013 , i watched much less anime in 2014 ..that's because in 2014 i started a daytime job (in a school no less ) .

So i adapted my schedule and so far it did work since i did watch 10+ show on average per season.
Each day i watch 3 episodes of a show ( that means 80 minutes spend after 8 pm ) since i do count the amount of time i'm spending in this tread writing my impressions. On saturday and sunday that number goes up to 8 . That way i can watch most of what is airing without an issue.

In the event i'm playing a game , my anime viewing time is relocated during my working hours. ( i'm mostly the one in charge so it's easy to find free time )

Tribe Cool Crew 02

Decided to give this another shot thanks to Twitter musings, I watched the first episode and it was fine, but didn't continue watching because I didn't think it was really for me.

Still feel mostly the same way on the second episode, but I'll watch the third. I feel like I should be liking this show but it isn't clicking for me.

lol, not in the mood for that kind of despair at the moment.

With cajun reassuring me up there, I think I'm going to stick it out if only for the reason of putting off writing up my AOTY post for a few more days.

Really, there are many ways this could go for me to not consider it a waste of time. Doesn't need to go full grimdark to accomplish that.
