Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Crazy that they added building aspects to this. I mean, that's kinda the last thing I would've expected.

As massive and cool as the game looked, I'm just not sure it's for me. Never been a Bethesda games fan due to the combat but I'm willing to give this a chance.

Is it bad that I'm most hyped about their F2P card game? lol

This is exactly how I feel. When they're talking about AND THEN THE TUNES COME ON AND YOU REMEMBER WHAT MAKES FALLOUT GAMES GREAT! and showing this long montage of concept art like "those emotional Fallout vistas..." and then showing a dialogue system of four options that doesn't tell you what you're actually saying. It's less "this is how much we love Fallout" and more "this is how much we love our own take on RPGs."

Is this not how essentially every AAA RPG does things these days? I'm not sure what the huge game breaking deal is.

Even The Witcher 3 which is by all accounts amazing gives you short lines that don't necessarily equal exactly what Geralt ends up saying.

The mass effect dialogue system is the biggest insult I've ever seen. I mean, I was pretty offended by the horrible graphics and soulless world in the original trailer, but jesus christ. Scrap the fucking voice acting if you don't have good dialogue. Go the Pillars of Eternity route instead.
Ding ding ding

That shoot bang montage at the end just seemed like Bethesda was saying "we don't care about the talk stuff anymore because that's boring".

It's a big game with a ton of neat stuff but the gameplay demo totally encompassed how I am utterly disinterested in and unstimulated by Bethesda's idea of a "role playing game" and what they've done with the Fallout franchise. It's worlds apart from the series roots to the point where it is now a completely unique entity, for better or (at least for me) worse. It's just not Fallout 4 as I'd see Fallout 4. It's open world RGP-lite with crafting system made by Bethesda. Cool if you're into that. Otherwise *shrug*

I'll give it a look when it comes out but yeah, crafting/town building sealed the deal that this really isn't for me.

this is exactly how I feel

even the phone game kinda sealed that for me. not like it looked bad or anything but it was like puttin a bow on "yeah this is something different now"

Nice presentation all around. Speakers did a great job, everything basically worked. Gameplay segments looked nice. Fallout 4 looks great for doing what's best in Bethesda open world games, which is getting some nice kit then just fucking around and seeing what nonsense you can get into. Plus cool dogs are always nice.

I feel like I'm in bizarro land. I honestly and truly wish I was more impressed by this, but I wasn't...

I'm kinda just scratching my head reading all these responses. I think it looked fine... but just that - fine. It just doesn't look like a significant difference from Fallout 3 aside from art direction.

welp

we'll always have new vegas

word

more or less how i feel. these added features did not sound interesting in the slightest. but i still enjoy the wasteland and i need my furiosa rpg. so i'll cop this during a christmas sale.

agreed wholeheartedly, I was more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I really did enjoy Fallout 3, but this just seems so devoid of what makes Fallout great and is instead insisting on introducing a ton of new mechanics that just don't fit with the world that Fallout always tried to express

I mean it's not like I actively hate Bethesda's open world games so a part of me is still interested in booting it up and aimlessly wandering and fucking around. But it's the sum total of game systems and how they come together that just totally disinterests me.

They're obviously doing a ton of big things with Fallout 4 but it's all redundant and empty for my taste. I couldn't give a single fuck about building my own town. Upgrading my power armour. Flying around in my jet. Teaching my dog tricks. Whatever. Bethesda are really big on their RPGs being open world inconsequential snadboxes for you to dress up your doll and aimlessly fuck around in and build pretty things. That's great, but most of these game systems are a dime a dozen now, and it's not the kind of "role playing" I grew up on and find really immersing, so I just can't resonate with the direction they're going. Seeing this comprehensive Minecraft-money town building followed by flying a jet sealed the deal. It's not my Fallout.

It'll break sales records though so I'm glad others enjoy it.

The dialogue and writing will probably be worse then ever before judging by voice acting and that dialogue wheel, but the actual gameplay looks soooooooo much better then 3/nv

For those of you with non-iphone sized/shaped phones, make your own pipboy:

Same and I fear if I play Witcher 3 before it I will be totally disapointed in Fallout 4 if they didn't worked hard on the Role playing part as hard as CDRP did.
That won't be a Day 1 for me, I will wait for the reviews, I really don't want to be dispointed on that part.

that had to be the best game reveal at a conference i've seen in quite some time. going to take a lot for any other title to impress me like Fallout 4 just did.

Where is that amazon pre order link for the pip boy edition?

I mean, kind of, but having that sort of RPG, and then presenting it as 'a continuation of past Fallouts we all loved' aren't directly compatible in this regard.

Liked the tower defense aspect of F4, and Fallout Shelter looks fun. Nothing really surprising otherwise.

Am I just too cynical or does this not really seem all that great?:/

You're cynical, but you're not wrong. I think a bunch of people are thinking "wow look at all these features!" and a bunch are also thinking "gee I dunno, I really hope they didn't spread themselves too thin, this is all kinda unnecessary".

Neither side are crazy, but it all hinges on how they implement it - if things are cohesive, fit with the storyline, fun and feel necessary to the game then it's FANTASTIC. If not, it could be a huge disappointment.

Great, with that crafting system and "Every item in the world has its use", I can't wait to have to open every fucking drawer and cabinet I see to and take everything. Hate that crap.

Encumbrance here I come!

It's not great. It's shallow and only looks great on the big stage where you aren't focusing on the details. But underneath the fluff is a complete massacre of everything that made the original Fallout games (+New Vegas) great.

Haha, what? Looks more detailed and in-depth than any Fallout before it. How does it "massacre" anythimg?

I am so excited for this game. A brilliant reveal with several significant additions to the formula, such as the crafting system and weapon/armour customisations. New VATS looked great. Using the PIPBOY looked great as well.

Basically, all the initial negative feelings about aliasing, shadows and other technical matters seem petty compared with what they showed here.

The only negative thing about the reveal is that it will mess with the "pacing of E3" to start with such a high note. Can Microsoft show anything even in the same ballpark as this tomorrow?

The crafting system and new armor systems are really great and will make the game even better. Sad to see what appears to be a drop in the dialogue department though. I'm guessing we are getting less options there due to voice acting. Personally I'd rather cut VA for better and deeper dialogue trees.

Looks good enough for me, especially since you can destroy and rebuild whole chunks of the world.

You are hitting on what I'm kind of feeling.

The whole "Dead Rising" + "Saints Row" over the top Vibe, seemed crazy/whacky and fun. But yeah, something about all of this felt divorced from what Fallout should be? I mean, Fallout has always been silly. But I agree with you, that this just feels like a very specific RPG world they want to create, with a Fallout skin around it....

I don't know how else to put it. I personally thought it looks fun. But I just hope to hell,t he story/side quests are written well, and this isn't just a sandbox/rpg that is whacky.

Yep

Damn the vanilla game looks hella fun, which is ultimately what matters. I do expect fans to do some serious modding especially when it comes to graphics, gameplay and that housing. I can only imagine the possibilities, I rarely ever buy games day 1 but Fallout 4 on PC has too happen.
with all dem bugs.

The phone game presentation sound pretty honest stuff. They even aknowledge that many phone games are shitty.

I am seriously trembling a bit after all that info and the release date bomb. I got choked up a couple of times during the presentation. It has been a long, long time since I've been this hyped about any game.

All they showed was Fallout4 chill out lol.

This is exactly my issues with the game.

Oh sweet a bunch of crafting that I will completely ignore because I have yet to ever see a good crafting system in ANY RPG.

Oh cool base-building that I don't want in an open world game.

Oh great more Skyrim style open world everything.

I might just pass on this one. Fallout 3 was ok, New Vegas seemed to be better. This looks like they ignored all the stuff I liked about New Vegas and added stuff I don't want. Pretty disappointed.

Whats with all the hate for the dialog system?

To me the choice option for responses beats the old list of premade questions to the npc bethesda games are known for.

I think it adds a nice way to give your character more personality.

Todd Howard gave one of the best presentations I've seen inside or outside of gaming. He was so confident in the product he was presenting and gave the viewer what he knew they wanted. Damn, I'm going to have to watch that again.

It looks like a home building expansion for fallout 3, 7 years after fallout 3 came out. The combat and dialogue all look subpar for 2015.
Agreed. Gameplay doesn't looked much improved from Fallout 3, and no signs of a decent narrative.
