The city building aspect will be a joke.
This is exactly how I feel. When they're talking about AND THEN THE TUNES COME ON AND YOU REMEMBER WHAT MAKES FALLOUT GAMES GREAT! and showing this long montage of concept art like "those emotional Fallout vistas..." and then showing a dialogue system of four options that doesn't tell you what you're actually saying. It's less "this is how much we love Fallout" and more "this is how much we love our own take on RPGs."
Ding ding dingThe mass effect dialogue system is the biggest insult I've ever seen. I mean, I was pretty offended by the horrible graphics and soulless world in the original trailer, but jesus christ. Scrap the fucking voice acting if you don't have good dialogue. Go the Pillars of Eternity route instead.
It's a big game with a ton of neat stuff but the gameplay demo totally encompassed how I am utterly disinterested in and unstimulated by Bethesda's idea of a "role playing game" and what they've done with the Fallout franchise. It's worlds apart from the series roots to the point where it is now a completely unique entity, for better or (at least for me) worse. It's just not Fallout 4 as I'd see Fallout 4. It's open world RGP-lite with crafting system made by Bethesda. Cool if you're into that. Otherwise *shrug*
I'll give it a look when it comes out but yeah, crafting/town building sealed the deal that this really isn't for me.
No footage for female character?
What a way to start E3. Looked incredible.
My GOTY list is not going to be easy this year.
welp
we'll always have new vegas
more or less how i feel. these added features did not sound interesting in the slightest. but i still enjoy the wasteland and i need my furiosa rpg. so i'll cop this during a christmas sale.
agreed wholeheartedly, I was more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I really did enjoy Fallout 3, but this just seems so devoid of what makes Fallout great and is instead insisting on introducing a ton of new mechanics that just don't fit with the world that Fallout always tried to express

Is this not how essentially every AAA RPG does things these days? I'm not sure what the huge game breaking deal is.
Even The Witcher 3 which is by all accounts amazing gives you short lines that don't necessarily equal exactly what Geralt ends up saying.
Am I just too cynical or does this not really seem all that great?:/
It's not great. It's shallow and only looks great on the big stage where you aren't focusing on the details. But underneath the fluff is a complete massacre of everything that made the original Fallout games (+New Vegas) great.

You are hitting on what I'm kind of feeling.
The whole "Dead Rising" + "Saints Row" over the top Vibe, seemed crazy/whacky and fun. But yeah, something about all of this felt divorced from what Fallout should be? I mean, Fallout has always been silly. But I agree with you, that this just feels like a very specific RPG world they want to create, with a Fallout skin around it....
I don't know how else to put it. I personally thought it looks fun. But I just hope to hell,t he story/side quests are written well, and this isn't just a sandbox/rpg that is whacky.
yap
this is exactly how I feel
even the phone game kinda sealed that for me. not like it looked bad or anything but it was like puttin a bow on "yeah this is something different now"
This is the first game this gen that actually feels like next gen gameplay.
Haha, what? Looks more detailed and in-depth than any Fallout before it. How does it "massacre" anythimg?
I am so excited for this game. A brilliant reveal with several significant additions to the formula, such as the crafting system and weapon/armour customisations. New VATS looked great. Using the PIPBOY looked great as well.
Basically, all the initial negative feelings about aliasing, shadows and other technical matters seem petty compared with what they showed here.
The only negative thing about the reveal is that it will mess with the "pacing of E3" to start with such a high note. Can Microsoft show anything even in the same ballpark as this tomorrow?

Agreed. Gameplay doesn't looked much improved from Fallout 3, and no signs of a decent narrative. It looks like a home building expansion for fallout 3, 7 years after fallout 3 came out. The combat and dialogue all look subpar for 2015.
