I assume it will depend. If the gameplay focuses on the story and focuses on things like showing she is LGTB and jew, that the bad guys are white males etc. many people will get pissed off as happened in TLOU2.That's why I believe people are going to care more about the gameplay in Intergalactic than the main character's design.
If they keep away the propaganda (something I highly doubt) and focus instead on great action, exploration, spectacular set pieces and narrative with great characters (who are there because of serving a needed part of the story, not just for being fillers just to check some 'representation/diversity' DEI checklist) yes, people will care more about the gameplay.
Helldivers is a Sony IP, and most of the people who worked on it are from Sony or from outsourcing studios paid and managed by Sony (SIE/PS Studios/XDEV in particular). In AAA games, the lead dev studio (in this case Arrowhead) only provides around 10% of the people who works in the game. It's funny how he's trying to spin Helldivers 2 as a big win for Sony and a justification to keep trying even though it's not even a game made by a first party studio and Sony merely published it.
And beyond funding it, publishing it, producing it, marketing it, or codeveloping it, the game was supposed to be made in around 3 years and Hermen allowed them to have a 5 years long delay.
It's a Sony game and would be super different if someone else would have published and codeveloped it.
And it's pretty retarded to say that calling Helldivers 2 a big win is spinning anything: it's a fact, Helldivers 2 is the fastest selling Sony game ever and one of the most successful games on Steam of the year.
