  1. Xbox Prime May Support Steam Games
    • Microsoft's next-gen console, "Xbox Prime," is rumored to support Steam games natively.
    • If true, this would allow Xbox users to access not only traditional console-exclusive titles but also a vast library of PC games.
  2. The Scale and Trends of the PC Gaming Market
    • By 2024, the global PC gaming population is expected to reach approximately 908 million players.
    • 67% of these players still play games that are over six years old, showing a strong demand for retro and classic titles.
    • Many PC gamers rely on old platforms or emulators to enjoy classic games.
  3. Xbox’s Competitive Edge and Impact on PlayStation
    • If Xbox Prime officially supports Steam games, it could become a more attractive platform for PC gamers.
    • This move would enable players to enjoy previously PC-exclusive titles on Xbox, making it a more versatile gaming console.
    • PlayStation currently lacks a similar feature, which could put it at a disadvantage in the competition.
Conclusion
If Xbox Prime integrates Steam support, it could expand its appeal beyond the traditional console market and attract a large portion of PC gamers. This could make Xbox a go-to platform for retro and classic game enthusiasts, potentially threatening PlayStation’s market dominance.
Xbox has been making some big moves lately, acquiring studios and pushing for the complete eradication of platform exclusivity – ensuring that their games are available on all platforms, day one.

This has also been accompanied by major quality of life improvements as well as additions to Xbox’s overall ‘ecosystem’, with Microsoft going for an ‘everything is an Xbox’ approach – breaking down the conventional barriers of consoles by incorporating PC ports and streaming devices.

Indeed, the PC gaming market is poised to grow to even greater heights, and the next generation of Xbox consoles could capitalize on the same to leave PlayStation in the dust.

Okay, I'll play along.

Imagine the average casual gamer buys an 'Xbox Prime' in 2028. Capable of playing whatever latest AAA game is on steam at the time. 3 years later, someone releases some high spec unoptimized piece of shit that they want to play. It's on Steam for $20 less than it is on Xbox Marketplace, but it's barely optimized for PC let alone Xbox Prime. What happens then?

One of the promises of a console is that every game made for it is optimized for it and will run on it.

I still don't think they'll actually do this. Not without serious guardrails in place, anyway. There's just so much weird shit on there that MS would never allow on their own store, not to mention that allowing the execution of unvetted code is basically suicide from a security perspective.

PC gaming itself hasn't been able to kill Sony, while having a growing catalog of PC games dating back as far as half a century ago -- plus, recently, select PlayStation exclusive games on Steam.

What makes the idiot who wrote that garbage think that a stained brand would now be able to do so, without the modularity of an actual PC?

Going by this same, demented logic, the Steam Deck should've killed Nintendo three years ago.

Xbox will be a hit if you can hit a Switch to Desktop button and get to Windows 11's desktop. Install Firefox, emulators, discord and VLC like you can on a Steam Deck.
They can still have a somewhat locked down build which restricts Kernel (ring0) access.

It would shake up the industry and redefine what a console is. In fact, they should rename the system while they're at it. I always though the Xbox brand was super lame early 2000's edge.

So pretty much basically... Xbox will be simply one of the many HTPCs on the market... and THAT will attract 100% of the PC users... If MS couldn't attract users of one rival (in this case, Sony), it will atract every possible PC user of every brand that exists ?! Who the f* is the idiot who believes it ?!

Who did they think I was shilling for?
lol of course the secret ms plan that is going to change everything. Just need to wait a couple more years guys it’s coming.

This. Its always ‘wait until you see what we have in store for you next year’ with Xbox.

Its been like this for a decade,

Then the following year Phil Spencer will say something humble in a random interview like ‘I know this past year we were not able to achieve our goals…’

It’s always like this. The good stuff is always a year out, and when it finally releases they never stick the landing.
