2 hours into it....and ive concluded that i don't like it. its buggy, it has sever screen tearing problems, the voice acting is horrible, frame rate problems, akward controls, guh i could go on.

thats my opinion anyways.

there really isn't a huge difference between these pc screens and the console version i played yesterday;are all the Post Processing effects we were shown in pc screenshots still there ?
As it stands, i'd say graphics on console look more organic; not a big fan of the ultra clean and rather sterile look of pc games when it's not toned down with some PP, unless the game goes for mirror's edge style look, and this is not the case here.

Anyway; finished the tutorial yesterday and started roaming around; the visuals are *amazing*, it's definately one of the most remarkable technical achievments on consoles.
Game feels like it has some depth to it, so far i'm not finding the gunfights very convincing or fun though.

Going to play with map editor today.

Yeah, the post processing is there but not in any of these screenshots.

And holy shit. I installed the ATI hotfix, turned the AA down from 8x to 4x and ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Settings: Demo(Ranch Small), 1920x1200 (60Hz), D3D10, Fixed Time Step(No), Disable Artificial Intelligence(No), Full Screen, Anti-Aliasing(4x), VSync(No), Overall Quality(Ultra High), Vegetation(Very High), Shading(Ultra High), Terrain(Ultra High), Geometry(Ultra High), Post FX(High), Texture(Ultra High), Shadow(Ultra High), Ambient(High), Hdr(Yes), Bloom(Yes), Fire(Very High), Physics(Very High), RealTrees(Very High)

Average Framerate: 58.59
Max. Framerate: 88.29
Min. Framerate: 38.64

:lol

The 4870x2 is a beast. I'll probably play at 2xAA because I'm at 1920x1200 anyway. I should be getting some burly framerates now.

Screens please. I want to see what it looks like on a really good rig.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I am disappointed by the screens people are posting. The scenery really looks bad imo (not technically, but art). In a season with so many games, Ubisoft should have released a demo for people like me who are undecided.

I am a PC gamer, but the screens people are posting look like crap. I think the problem is the art direction. No wonder the game scales so well, it is definitely not graphically intensive from those screens.

I agree with those points. And I'll add, that you spend too much time traveling on foot, enemies have better accuracy than they should, and the map function is too clunky. But after 3 hours, I'm not ready to give up on the game.

Yup, these things look like ass to me.

I'll post some screens later.

I haven't started playing yet, having too much fun benchmarking.

But I think this is definitely a game you have to see in motion. These screenshots fucking suck.

The game looks damn good during the benchmark run.

Simple screenshots don't do this game justice as far as I'm concerned. I'm loving the experience so far.

Just look at gameplay video, even if the quality sucks it shows how the game truly is and if you would like it. I just picked a random video off youtube that someone just uploaded, didn't see it but: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNBmPcP8uYA
That should give people a better idea.

to each his own i guess.
ultra high res and extremely clean graphics don't go along too well with organic environments (while stuff like mirror's edge and wipeout would look awesome on pc).
They immediately give away the fact the stuff you see onscreen is computer generated; someone mentioned trees looked like cardboard cutouts in screens posted above; that's what i'm referring to; when you're going for a more realistic style you'll want some post processing to hide the obvious technical shortcomings and i'm not seeing any in these screens -maybe they just weren't enabled dunno-; Crysis doesn't suffer from the same problem for example.

None of those are inside buildings...like one of the first missions were you meet up with the girl in the school or whatever. There is nothing special about that at all. I'm not talking about in the caves and stuff but whatever floats your boat...you remind of the person trying to tell me the textures were great in MGS4 throughout the building when you fight the frogs.

I was messing around with the benchmark tool and came across this. Just changing the shadows from Ultra High to Very High gives me 8 more FPS. I'll definitely be doing that from now on.

Also, as others have said, best benchmarking tool ever.

Heh, you are judging the whole game base on one insignificant building in a level? The last level of Crysis (which is inside) is the closest thing we have to photorealism in a game.

I'm running more or less the same specs as chespace. 1920x1080 4xAA ultra high DX10. Runs swimmingly. The mouse control is bearable. Still bad, but better than some other shit out there (*coughdeadspacecough*).

I'll post some pics a bit later after I've gone through more of the game, but I've honestly never been more conflicted about a game's visuals. Sometimes I'm just dazzled by the amount of detail and life and movement all around me, others it's just...blah. Bland atmosphere and simplistic geometry. When you see it in motion the prettiness definitely outweighs the ugly. It's just not very photogenic I guess.

Gameplay (other than the controls) is great though. It's really not hard to kill enemies if you know how to aim. Then again, I'm a STALKER vet who plays on master, so... At least they give you some decent weapons from the outset here! Hell, a flamethrower is one of the first weapons you find. :D

You're right. It's not special at all. It's a completely unremarkable school building. Why would you expect mindblowing atmospherics in a place like that? :|

Yeah, this engine/game is incredibly optimized and I think on the whole it looks great.

Remember, I'm also the guy who finished Crysis and went straight into 2 days of STALKER so I am pretty tolerant of graphics as long as the immersion factor is there and it's here in spades.

I haven't really started the game yet. I just fell over from malaria after trying to escape from a burning house and decided to save the game and share some screenshots with y'all.

BTW, the performance at 1920x1200 with 2xAA and everything on Ultra High or whatever at DX10 is phenomenal.

Well, I'm definitely liking the game thus far. I can already tell I won't be using the main roads much, the world is just too damn pretty and interesting. Also happy to know that rushing into a guard road block can be a problem without a plan.

I know this might sound dumb, but i use my *ENTER* key as my shooting button but for some stupid reason ubisoft thought it brilliant to not allow me to bind shoot to then ENTER key, does anyone know if there might be a work around for this? For any FPS, i always use my ENTER key for shooting and i hate it when some developer takes that away.

Sorry, no answer to your question.
But I'm just curious to WHY you use the enter key? I suppose you've reconfigured the entire control scheme in some unique way that you find more effective?
What do you use the left and right mousebuttons for?

the game does look good, no doubt, but it does offer me anything that I want to play. I had soo many freeroam fps already and since Flashpoint/Armed Assault, I mostly get bored because those 2 games definied how open levels should be done. do anything whenever/whatever you want

back to the game, nice graphics, but I pass

Wtf? There's buttons on a mouse you know... How does it even work, you shoot with your pinky finger, move around with arrow keys?

You are human, right? With arms? And fingers? I'm trying to figure out how you play, but I'm only coming up with contorted pretzel positions.

I have to say that I really was surprised how great the game looks on my HDTV. Smooth framerate, the vegetation looks good, the lighting is great (easily the best part of the engine), and the overall atmospheric feel of the game world is just nicely done. I'm feeling the heat of the African sun as I'm playing it. Very positive so far.

And it's no Crysis, obviously
class of its own! class of its own!
, but I think it definitely achieves what it set out to do. I was skeptical, but so far I give it a thumbs up.

EDIT: Ah, fuck. Photobucket resized them into bloody thumbnails.

I have to agree. It's GTA:The Fps, for every minute of gameplay you have 5 minutes of traveling time to get there.

And other things that bug me a lot:

- Repairing vehicles (is this fun?)
- Guard posts (Whats the point, they respawn anyway and is just there to slow you down)
- Aiming is off (as other mentioned)
- EVERYTHING is a fucking achivement (there soo much pointless shit to do, they should have made decent REAL missions instead)
- AI is horrible. Enemies run around like crazy people and they can hit you from insane distances.

The original Farcry had a sandbox feel to it but you always had some kind of direction and purpose. This is just a collection of half-assed ideas with a nice gfx engine. For people totally sold on this kind of sandbox games I can see it would be a lot of fun, I on the other hand would have liked a bit more real content(story, direction) and less of the padding.

Going to give it another chance tonight though but if it doesn't win me over it's going back.

Chiggs said:
Yeah, I noticed this in STALKER, too. Why do they do this?
It immediately lets you know who spent the budget to reference real weapons and who simply looked at/played a lot of CounterStrike. You see way back in it's earliest days as a mod, CS was a lefty game, all the first person view models were made for the lefty view mode, the standard and non retarded looking proper right handed FPS view was always only a mirrored lefty view, so while the charging handle and ejection ports were correct in the lefty view, they were completely off in the mirrored view.

Everything looks wonderful in motion. Some of those shots I just sat and stared in awe at how alive it looked. It's no Crysis, but I have to give this game props for that.

Awesome.

/side note, the gun and hand models for this game look fucking awful. And in a First Person Shooter that's the equivalent of casting 3rd degree burn victims for a porno.

Game is great, lovely, still fun to even just roam around in after putting a day of play into, but even if you boot this sucker up on the lowest difficulty level, there's no escaping the "every poor sob is an ace sniper" phenomenon that's apparently sweeping Africa. I get shot, look around, no immediate presence - I think "oh shit, a sniper". I dodge in and out of cover until I take note of the muzzle position. I beeline for him, zig-zagging. I close on him, ready to get my Jason on, when I realize he's been consistently pinging me from like a mile and a half away with a shitty pistol. For fuck's sake, it'd be a miracle shot with a TAC-50 anti-material rifle - and this broken, starving spirit wandering the plains of Africa in rags, this civilian turned military for the pennies he'll need just to eat; he's not just regularly, but predictably breaking world sniper rifle records with some shitty, rusted glock? There's suspension of disbelief, and then you step back from the game, and there's this, you're confronted with this bizarre nation of Equilibrium pistol savants. :lol

What can I say? The game rocks. Booting it back up for another twelve hours!
