Isn't that why they're investigating those emails? To find whether they matter?

I hate that it's happening, but imagine if the FBI didn't come forward now -- if we found out after the election was over they investigated more emails, GOP would have flipped their shit and accused FBI of hiding it to help Clinton (especially if something was found).
True

I'll wait for their report and then react.

Not before.

Also agree with you on announcing it.

In regards to the 3 emails vs "thousands"

The fact is both statements can be true. They are investigating Weiner for his sexting with a minor, which could involve "thousands" of emails. Of those thousands of emails, there could be three emails which actually pertain to Huma/Clinton.

Based on one of the Tweets linked earlier it sounds as if there were three emails sent by Huma from Clinton's server to Weiner that weren't included in the emails that they already investigated. The existence of additional emails that weren't turned over to them is the connection to Hillary, not that it means anything important.

I can easily see that Comey couldn't be more "concrete" with his statement as it involves an ongoing investigation which elaboration could potentially compromise.

Except we've heard tons of new details about what they're looking into that wasn't in the letter, like the source of the e-mails (Weiner's sexts).

But he had to know it would start a shit storm.

Whether intentional or not, it could be seen as tampering. Particularly if nothing of value is found.

And if he just sat on these new emails until after the election without informing Congress, that would seen as tampering as well.

Any decision that Comey makes is going to have political ramifications.

A political "shitstorm" should NEVER be the concern of the FBI Director.

It shouldn't, but that's a part of the job. The FBI has to look impartial and if there was nothing holding him to making that statement, why do it?

Again, what's the harm in making this a public release after/if something is found?

And if he just sat on these new emails until after the election without informing Congress, that would seen as tampering as well.

Any decision that Comey makes is going to have political ramifications.

Not if they're proven to be unrelated to Clinton's investigation.

I sorta wonder if whatever they found contradicts Huma's testimony and if she's the one who is going to go down in all of this.

Na. From the looks of it, the news to the FBI is that a lot of the emails Huma sent were stored on those devices because she forwarded them to her Yahoo account in order to print them, not that she created a bunch of emails that they hid from the FBI. Several media outlets have confirmed that these emails weren't withheld by the Clinton campaign.

And I have a hard time believing that these are completely new emails. Other have already reported that they haven't found anything classified in them yet. I mean, why would she print out classified information with an old account?

This whole thing is just so bogus and unfair to Hillary. How the hell does she even respond to this? I mean, she knows the same thing as everybody else (well, ok, the campaign has its own sources in the FBI I guess)/

I sorta wonder if whatever they found contradicts Huma's testimony and if she's the one who is going to go down in all of this.

It's going to be nothing probably., like pretty much all the e-mail stuff has been at the end of the day. I think the statement by the Clinton campaign earlier was pretty bold, I don't think they're worried about anything. Unless Huma isn't involved with them anymore, but I thought she was.

I can easily see that Comey couldn't be more "concrete" with his statement to Congress as it involves an ongoing investigation which elaboration could potentially compromise.

He could have easily waited until after the election. Making this public just 11 days before an election is not in line with norms.

Matthew Miller, who served at the Department of Justice under Attorney General Eric Holder, blasted Comey's move in a 14-post spree on Twitter Friday afternoon, ripping the FBI director for his practices throughout the entire Clinton investigation.

In a later interview with POLITICO, Miller again ripped Comey, saying, “The Justice Department’s longstanding practice is don’t do anything seen as trying to influence an election. That’s usually interpreted as 60 days, let alone 11."

So Mods took "Clinton" out of the thread title because this has nothing to do with her. Let me check to see if major news outlets followed suit

CNN: "FBI probes newly discovered emails tied to Clinton case"
NBC News: "Emails Related to Clinton Case Found in Anthony Weiner Investigation"
BBC: "FBI probes new Hillary Clinton emails"
FOX: "Discovery in Anthony Weiner case prompts FBI to re-open Clinton email probe"
MSNBC: "Emails Related to Clinton Case Found in Anthony Weiner Investigation"
CBS: "FBI reviewing new Clinton-related emails"
ABC: "Anthony Weiner Probe Sparked Latest Clinton Email Investigation"

nope

I wonder how long it will be before the mods remove "Clinton" from election related threads.

ABC News leading with the "FBI bombshell" of "explosive information."

They then casually mention no evidence of Clinton wrongdoing, but who cares? You lead with "bombshells" and "explosive info" and the narrative is already established.

That liberal media sure is back at it again, am I right?!

However, I don't think anyone who, to quote Bernie Sanders, doesn't care about those damn emails will be swayed to care by this tremendous reaching by the media to find any possible way to be "even" in coverage of Hillary and the human dumpster fire.

Bombshell investigation my ass. The only "bombshell" were how freaked out everybody was about a letter, but no actually news about Hillary.

Because he is legally bound to do so.

He had testified under oath to Congress and when new information that potentially alters that testimony becomes evident, he has to make a statement to Congress indicating as such.
But it hasn't been made evident yet. Look at the actual letter:
the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant

There's literally nothing to report yet, and Comey jumped the gun.

ABC News has been pretty anti Hilary, when they are not obsessing over the weather.

Well, we don't know what the three emails are... And even if they aren't exactly a revelation, if he's under instruction to report it than what he did was fine.

And it's not as if he was the one who leaked this letter to the press.

There is no doubt that Comey exercised "an abundance of caution" in sending the letter at this stage.

But, the FBI testified before Congress that the server investigation was effectively "over", that there was nothing further to examine. However, this new information effectively caused a "material change" in his sworn testimony before Congress in the sense that there are other documents that should be examined related to the server investigation. It was this "material change" in the status of his sworn testimony that required the letter to be sent under law.

It doesn't matter. The FBI was just beginning that part of the investigation so Comey had nothing to report yet. He was under no obligation to tell anybody about it because it's not pertinent yet. And in doing so, he's opening himself up to accusations of political interference.

Thats bullshit. If he's not sure if the materials are even relevant to the investigation (like he said in the fucking letter), there's no reason to claim they constitute a material change to anything. There was no fucking reason to send the letter. He's trying to play politics. Period. I won't be surprised to see him running for an office in 2018.

Just catching up...so Wiener sent thousands of e-mails, and the FBI, GOP and media are all assuming that all of them are concerning Hillary's server until proven otherwise?

Oh, and I don't suppose any progress has been made on finding out whether Wiener is guilty of anything, right? I mean, who cares?

Can someone answer this because I legitimately don't know:

Since Obama is still President doesn't he have the power to pardon Hillary of all past crimes, etc.? (Not saying that she has any but as a hypothetical), and even if she is indicted if she wins the election and passes the inauguration wouldn't she be immune to prosecution as the President?

Never seen a thread title change so many times. Eye of the beholder.

In short; FBI are investigating new information relating to the Clinton email investigation taken from the devices related to a White House sex scandal. Everything is fine. In unrelated news Donald Trump has bought a new tie.

Christ. A man with a book reading a story book is about to appear in a real world thread. Wholly fucking shit.

I may have been wrong. CNN seems to be pushing the "October Bombshell" narrative. Like it's a mandate for their people to say it. They go back, they go forward again. I hope things change tomorrow.

White House sex scandal? What? No, it's a regular sex scandal.

And the relationship to the "Clinton email investigation" is just that they are emails from Huma to Hillary, possibly.
