Shit is reaching levels of insanity we could only imagine before.

This is checks and balances failing, correct? How do we even fix this at this point? What the fuck happens if Trump is impeached? These people can't even follow a judicial order; what's going to happen when their god-emperor is forcibly removed from office?

Well

We never have to worry about that

These reports are very bad, but it's much more likely this is the result of a complete clusterfuck of a policy being instituted overnight and it being repealed at almost midnight on a Saturday. These are customs officials probably being completely left out in the wind by their supervisors and frantically calling people in their office trying to figure out what they're supposed to do.

You can't call the supervisor if the supervisor was left out in the dark too. Based on what we know, the lack of consistency in the detainee releases across the various airports would strongly imply the CBP office at each airport are interpreting as they see fit.

Exactly my point. If this were some far reaching decree by Trump himself to ignore a federal court ruling then this would be happening all over.

Sometimes I love democracy and sometimes I hate it. You often find you powerless at the same time it's the only system that is humane.

To hell with you all who are behind this ban.

None of this is entirely by design. This is shitty people that believe in shitty things doing shitty things because they think they can. No more.
The "shitty things" they believe in, among other things, is that government shouldn't work for the average citizen, just for rich special interests, and so they go about making that a self-fulfilling prophecy. So, yeah, a lot of this is expressly by design from the top.

What can be done about a rogue Executive branch? This shit is nuts

The rogue executive branch has the full backing of the legislative branch. Only the judicial branch can save us, unless it also sides with the two branches which is a possibility after Trump fills in the vacant seat.

Well you could start impeachment processes, but the House and Senate won't play that ballgame. So I guess you could have a military step-in which seems also unlikely and very likely to cause even more issues if it did happen.

I really feel like we're rocketing toward a Reichstag fire.
Hitler needed 4 weeks in office before executing the arson attack on the Reichstag. Curious to see if Trump/Bannon eclipse that timeline or if they instead pay tribute to it on its anniversary (February 27th).

the judiciary can just declare what is or isn't legal

it's still up to other agencies to actually enforce those declarations

it's problematic when the person at the top of most of those chains-of-command thinks he has CEO-like powers and is above the rule of law

The Judiciary can't do anything. Nothing they rule is enforceable if the other branches don't want to enforce it.

The only options in the case of Trump going rogue and having the executive branch defy court rulings is for him to be impeached or removed forcefully by the military.

A modern version of

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

All this out pouring is actually giving me hope. This whole week has been so depressing, and I was really starting to lose my faith in America fighting back. I really needed this.

Not hard enough. Where are the Supreme Court judges? Why aren't they kicking down the door of the oval office?
... That's not how it works.

These courts didn't just decide to tackle the issue, the ACLU sued. The SC will weigh in if it gets there and hopefully it does to set a precedent.

That's not how this works. The case would have to be appealed up to the Supreme Court. Takes time.

Let's make sure we know how the process works before we get outraged about not doing enough. People are doing literally as much as they can.

There's a process. The Supreme Court can't make a ruling on anything until it works its way up the chain and comes across their desk. That takes a long time.

If the people don't relent Congress will have no choice. If this happens every time Donald "The Shitstain" Trump does something terrible, it will work. It's on us not to lose hope, and to keep fighting.

......NOTHING about what is going on right now is how it is "supposed to work"

This isn't Final Fantasy 12. SCOTUS isn't enforcement, they rule on cases brought to them through the court system and essentially determine what's legal.
