Today I learned: there are a fair few assholes on Gaf that I am glad I never come across in the MMA thread or gaming side. Like you can spot the trolls, but some of you seem to be serious about this and are coming across as 100% dick.

Some snippets and the episodes in the North East. Dude seems to love this place and I got the feeling if he had the chance he would go for dual citizenship. I might be wrong on the citizenship but at least he felt the phrase " only in America" has it's positive merits.
 
Must there always be an American brag thread? Note - this is part of the reason some people think of Americans as douchebags.

I don't really know how to express myself properly here, but I'll give it a shot. I'm not really proud to be English. I'm proud of the history of the country, and I'm proud of a lot of aspects. But I can't be proud to be English, because I had no choice in the matter. I'm glad to be English certainly

It does, he, like many of us have great affection for such a diverse and normally welcoming place. That does not mean we are jealous however.

Yo i feel you on a lot of this but you're dramatizing a lot and are downright off base on plenty. Organic food is easy to come by. It's in every supermarket chain and if not, local farmers markets and whole foods stores are chock full of them. Fresh produce isn't more expensive compared to premade food either fyi if you have a bit of buying sense.

Transport and education depend on region and location as well.

Europeans have plenty of fucked up politicians and political problems. I don't think this even needs clarifying. Y'all are just as crazy as we are, just less overt religion.

You guys pay for internet based on usage, which fucking blows cocks.

To say the financial sector hasn't peed on you either is silly given what's happening to the Eurozone right now.

I find racism talk to be a little silly given motions for burqa banning, the general treatment of immigrants, forget the handling of Roma people and antisemitism.

We're being called "self-entitled fucks", "douchebags" and "fucking idiots" while posting objective, literal facts about why Britain and other countries are lesser. I haven't called any British people "fucking idiots" or "self-entitled fucks", in fact I have nothing but the deepest respect for members of other nations and I hope one day too that they can become citizens of the greatest country in the history of this planet.

What if you're starting your own business? Or what about minimum wage/part time jobs, do they include healthcare? Or say your company downsizes or your job is sent overseas? These seem like realistic possibilities, not hyperbole.

This country is terrible for anyone that isn't aspiring to become an entertainer or business owner. It's an absolute theme park for corporations. Any small fry that just wants to live their life knowing they'll have affordable healthcare/education, a nice small cheap apartment and better workplace rights would do better elsewhere. The best thing about this country is separation of church and state but that's constantly being attacked and it's basically de-facto christian nowadays. I won't be happy until an atheist wins high office.

Agreed on corporate influence and christian influence though, that is the absolute worst.

I can be happy about living in a country that represents the same views I do, offers free education and so on. But national identity doesn't make me proud. All countries are divided to people who all represent their own views and there's really no things that everyone would stand for.
 
To be honest, I think it says a lot about how much Americans envy Europe that they have to make threads like this where they make up quotes from people they've imagined about how great America is. I think that's a very sad thing. I hope that over time Americans will learn to move on from their jealousy, because jealousy is unproductive and you will never be as great as Europe if you keep just making threads and imaginary people.

I love this country. Korey's trolling aside, I think Americans have a lot to be proud of and the story we have crafted for 200 odd years. This country has achieved a lot, I would argue a lot more than others but since it's GAF it will lead to just going in circles and that's ok.

People have a lot of pride for the place they hail from and rightfully so. I just hope the I leave my mark and contribution in America so I can give others the chance to be proud of this nation.

I don't really feel any kind of national pride for my home nation, but I do like the whole 'Europe' thing a lot on balance.

Anybody who generalizes a country of millions of people by calling them stuff like that is not even worth replying to. I have tons of friends from all over the world and people who come here get the uttmost respect and kindness from me. So I just laugh when people say "Americans are ___."

Certain people from Europe and elsewhere can hate all they want. Doesn't matter to me lol. I'm quite happy with the life I live. It's quite telling actually that much of the hate is towards us and not the other way around, despite the problems of other countries and despite how much of our media and culture the western world inhales daily. At the end of the day if you're our ally we will help help defend you.

Maybe in winter, but we got temperatures about 20-25 celsius currently and sometimes reach 30 during the middle of summer.


As for the topic, i like you americans, but envy??? No, not at all. I don't want to live in a country where religion and guns are a big deal for its community. Lets not mention your public healthcare either.

I've already laid out irrefutable evidence on why America is better than Europe. There is literally nothing Europe has that America wants while there is clearly plenty that America has that Europe wants. There's a reason why so many European actors come to Hollywood. Americans are so gracious that let an Englishman play Batman, one of America's most iconic heroes. Could you imagine the shitfit if they got an American to play James Bond?

Actually we only let the second rate actors go to America. You should see the ones we keep to ourselves. They can make you laugh and cry at the same time before they even come on stage.
