She doesn't "have" to do anything, but getting injured over your sense of pride is pretty dumb. There are recourse to someone actually physically assaulting you like in the video without resorting to property damage and running off hoping they don't follow.

I don't think taking offence to being verbally abused and physically assaulted while cycling is just a knock on her sense of pride. Catcalling is revolting in general never mind when it escalates to this. Being angry at something like this and lashing out isn't as dumb as you make it seem, especially with the frequency it happens to women.

Fuck those guys.

I had a cyclist do this to me, except in my case I did literally nothing wrong. He clipped my mirror while I was at a stop because a car was blocking the bike lane and he went between us. I had to stop to fix my mirror, and I saw him at the next stop and asked him to be more careful. Didn't even use foul language. Guy up and slammed my mirror off for no reason. I wasn't even blocking the lane or anything and I'm always super safe around cyclists, have never honked at them, etc. Really soured me on them in general. I stopped him and called the police and he just took off, so I caught him on foot after three blocks cause his chain came off! Got him to agree to pay for the damages, but he ended up only paying for about 70% of the cost. Asshole.

"But how else r u supposed to let hur kno u like hur?"

Fuck catcalling. I actually said "Fuck yeah" out loud when she ripped that off.

If they did something, they'd go to jail. She doesn't have to tolerate their BS just because they could run her down or kill her

There was a good story on This American Life where a woman tried to explain to a guy how shitty he was being. It's dumbfounding.

Wait. I could just walk up to a car and dismantle a car mirror like that in seconds?

Gonna put this on the bucket list next to kicking doors in and punching through a windshield

I once got ran over and I rolled off the hood in a way that I broke off the mirror.

...I ended up taking the mirror and going home with it. That was an annoying night.

I am totally team fake on this one. Even the OP seems like an ad.

The list of videos on the channel is a little...interesting.
Haha, this isn't an ad, I have no idea about the channel or what's on there, I just didn't want to share the video from my FB so googled the title for the first Youtube link (the first one I posted had Arabic pop-ups on so edited to the second one).

Never really thought it looked fake or staged... apart from the motorbike going the same route and chiming in, which yeah, I suppose is a bit of a coincidence. What I can say is this type of aggressive cat-calling is very much commonplace in the UK. I work in Birmingham city center right next to an ongoing property development and the girls I work with get harassed and stopped quite frequently.

Catcalling is pretty vile but I don't consider that anywhere close to grabbing someone through the window of a car repeatedly.

Haha, I expected an accident or something. Not her pulling up beside them and fucking ripping off their mirror. Also what she did was pretty damn dangerous.

Ridiculously stupid behaviour to retaliate like that, but hooooo-eee was it fun to watch her do it!

That's what you call 'the red mist'. I've been there.

People are so quick to dismiss things as fake nowadays. I understand why, but I'd like to believe this is real and the girl ripped that mirror off like a badass. Good stuff!

Dangerous and plain stupid. Those guys are dirtbags but the road isn't the place for that kind of behavior from her either.

Assuming this was real anyway.

"thats exactly what you deserve you scum" should really have been delivered a lot better than that

edit - on a side note, where's your helmet cyclist girl?

as a cyclist who has received a fair amount of pointless abuse from motorists over the years, this warmed my heart.

you go, girl.

To me that's the classic thing you do when you're psyched up and emotional and you want to deliver a scolding comment... and you just end up sounding super corny!

He was touching her. Repeatedly. Gloves off at that point.

I mean, yes she could have and probably should have taken his plate number down, reported him, maybe she could have gotten the footage from scooter person, and gotten the guy fired/shamed etc. But I'm not going to blame her for raging and causing like, $300 worth of damage.

My flags on fake are why the motorbike stayed behind the cyclist the entire time. There's no reason he wouldn't have gone off ahead like the van at a normal street speed. Also, blurring the license plate of the van is being waaaaaaay too polite to them.

Even if fake, I'd like to know who set this up and why. An odd thing to stage from essentially anonymous people.
She is in the wrong because they left and she chased after them.
Counterpoint: Fuck those guys.

Well, that's why it's getting shared. It's why a lot of fake shit gets shared: People like the narrative and don't wanna poke at it too hard. They value the message being spread more than that message's authenticity.

Watching gross men have their day ruined by a righteous woman standing up for herself is a nice shot of feel-good. But if it's a completely staged stunt, then it loses a little bit of shine.

People'd rather indulge in the "what if" fantasy and so they don't investigate too deeply. And so the argument goes, why should they? At the end of the day it's 90 seconds of a woman ripping a mirror off a van. It's not a big deal, right? It really doesn't matter if it's "real" or not.

Of course, if you spend a large part of your day consuming/regurgitating fake bullshit that makes you feel good, you lose your taste for identifying real shit, because what's important isn't the truth of the thing, it's the utility in providing you a platform to talk about how you feel, and what you'd do in that situation.

I do wonder why the biker followed her
I'm under the impression he wanted to make sure those thugs didn't go back to her and try to attack her, since they were driving a multi-ton vehicule and she was pretty unprotected on that bike. Had they tried to run her over she wouldn't have stood a chance.
Sounds savior-esque but I think it's nice of him.
