When devs talk about IQ (image quality) what exactly are they talking about?
Dynamic resolution was the sacrifice, meaning the game will switch to ugly 900p instead of 1080p or we are talking about less polys in the background ?
It's like the Nintendo problem. You have to get some kind of mindshare outside of the dedicated fanbase, especially with a game like this that is clearly making overtures to a Western audience.Their marketing efforts so far border on useless when they've only really been effective on people that were already buying the game anyway. Nobody cares about Kingsglaive or some sweepstakes to win a car. They have no presence in mainstream consciousness.
Umm what ?Marketing seens to be almost no existant this close to launch. I have faith in Tabata, but no way the game will deliver on the ridiculous level of hype it generated from all these years.
Umm what ?
A freaking CG movie came out in Japan and is soon to come out in North america.
They are massively over spending on marketing in typical AAA fashion.
They are arguably squandering resources as well.Took a big risk with that movie. It could be at the expense of the the actual game too.

No they don't. There's no proof of this, especially among the gaming press which is still an "enthusiast press" at best. At most, games are slowly being held to a higher standard, which is a thing to be happy about, not lament over.
It's my most anticipated game of all time. I literally watch vids of it everyday now before I go to sleep. I've been waiting 8 years for it and there have been some bumpy rides along the way, but I'm keep looking at the positives. I put almost 30 hours into Duscae alone so even if the combat was still like that I would be fine with it. I've replayed the Platinum demo 5 times and I enjoy it more than the first time playing it.
Quote away.Ok. Just in case, can I quote you if we are wrong (I'm on your side).
Bingo. A metric ton of cash being spent on marketing and shit like movies doesn't mean anything if it's not productive marketing. That's called being ineffective and wasting money lol.Exactly. The argument is being misphrased and misunderstood in turn. It's not that there isn't marketing, it's that's for as much of it as there is, it's not actually all that effective/conducive to reaching the goal they've set.
The weird thing about the movie and anime is that I imagine only fans of FFXV will watch it, and I don't imagine they need convincing.Umm what ?

Nah considering which part of Sony is distributing it, I doubt it.
Weird, isn't it?Lol, the FFXIII triology and FFXV's extremely long development have really pissed off a lot of people. FFXV is definitely among the top of games GAF loves to hate.
I don't see any reason this game isn't going to be at least considered "good". The biggest problem I can see coming is maybe the battle system. But it has been considerably improved and extended over Duscae and the Platinum demo. I don't remember any gaming journalist who got to play the final battle system state that there was something wrong with it. On the contrary even. They all pretty much liked it.
We've already had this happen in the movie thread. Tabata was surprised at the ticket sales I m sure it did fineThe movie cost millions at the very least.
I really dont expect it to bring back its cost let alone bring in any significant profit. No general audience will be interested in this movie even if it actually turns out great.
If I were in charge,I'd have pumped all that movie money into the game to make sure its as feature complete as possible.

Another potentially concerning part is if it's necessary to fully enjoy FFXV which increases the barrier of entry.
The anime showcases the backstory to each of the back street boys which seems pretty important to know since the game is you going on a road trip with them. The movie is a prequel showing the love interest and Noctis' father, which also seems important.

I don't think I'd have pumped the money into the game. I'd have pumped into a more traditional marketing budget. The movie cost millions at the very least.

Dunno the numbers. At the least they need to push a volume high enough to show that FF is "back."we know how many copies SE need to sell to recover the investment alone?

I'm not ashamed to admit that what got me to buy TW3 was a kickass trailer I saw on TV.
All I want is a good story and good characters.
After the dire writing of the entire FFXIII saga, that's all I really want. A good story.
Good gameplay too, but... just don't let the story nosedive like FFXIII's did. FFXIV proves there's still great writing talent at Square Enix.
It came out right around college finals and I remember being on the fence because of low funds and low time.I'm surprised a trailer of all things did that to you, I say that because you're a Gaf member with more knowledge than the average joe.
Umm what ?

This is an exaggeration, now isn't it? I haven't read a fully positive preview for this game, and journalists do not seem to have a unanimous opinion of what they've been able to play.Weird, isn't it?
Don't think I've read a single fully negative preview for this game. Journalists seem to unanimously love what they've been able to play. GAF on the other hand doesn't waste a moment shitting on the game.
I feel like (on GAF) this game will go down like Dragon Age Inquisition. A critical darling, but despised by most outspoken members on this forum.
Oh wells, I'll still probably love every minute of it.
We can pull up the platinum demo impressions and compare it to the actual platinum demo thread if you want nothing he said was wrongThis is an exaggeration, now isn't it? There's a lot of spinning.
You should read more widely then. It'll be good for you.Weird, isn't it?

And that is not even all. In addition to a movie with star actors we also got the very high production value Uncovered Event, an anime series, a partnership with Audi as well as with Roen (popular Japanese fashion brand), Coleman and recently American Express.
On the contrary, SE is going all out on promoting this game. This will probably be the costliest marketing push for any of their games.
Enjoyed Duscae, played more than 30 hours... but Platinum was pretty bad on the other hand, so like Cor said: "It's complicated".
That said, I certainly have some concerns (mainly for combat, performance on consoles and how much interesting content is there), but still I'm quite confident in the game being at least "good". It's also lacking a big story trailer, but we might get one next week.
Really want the game to succeed though and I'll be there on day one.

This is scary, but it's the truth- I've doing this for the longest now.
