FFXV: What's The General temperature of this Game?

You have to stop saying this. It's an MMO, it plays differently, it comes with different expectations, and it's judged by different standards. This game might as well not exist for players of single-player mainline Final Fantasy games.

It's a game that's helping SE do quite well, so what I'm saying isn't false. And I'm a single player FF fan who loves XIV so to say it should be judged by different standards is a bit unfair when so many other fans who never play other MMOs play XIV because it's Final Fantasy and has a story that's similar if not one that surpasses much of the single player ones in the series.

I was hoping for a game with real-time combat and movement that was at least as coherent as the recent Kingdom Hearts games.

That's not what we're getting. It didn't need to be as precise, and I'm fine with the "hold button" thing, but I haven't played any intense fights that feel like anything except for a total mess.

My wife disagrees, though - she loved her time with FFXV and hated her time with Kingdom Hearts - so who knows!
It's time to divorce her. :p

Getting more and more excited as the release date gets closer. While I'm not 100℅ sold on the combat, playing around with the last boss in the platinum demo gave me some hope. Still, I really didn't like chasing around those dogs in Duscaue and I hope they improved the combat enough so that won't be frustrating.

I don't give a shit about MMO's since they aren't my thing but to sit here and blatantly ignore them as hurting FF is ignorant. Forget about the quality of the game or its story or reception. It makes square a shit ton of money which helps fund those RPG's we love so much that that aren't named FF.

I'm pretty excited myself. Already scheduled a few days off work for the launch. I've seen every episode of the anime a few times and played both demos quite a bit.

Lavishly big budget JRPG's are rare in this day and age, so I couldn't imagine sitting this one out, especially when it's a mainline Final Fantasy! I've been anticipating the release of this game through so many different periods of my life I mean...

The game could be a 6/10 i'll still play it. Yes, i need closure from this.

This is where I'm at. I've already seen enough to know I'll enjoy my time with it regardless of it's shortcomings. If I had to guess though, Metacritic: 81

No matter how this game turns out to be I'll buy it day one, I've been watching and rewatching trailers, looking at Famitsu scans, reading impressions and watching Nomura [laugh] for years now. It sort of feels like an obligation at this point.

I enjoyed the hell out of Duacae when it was first released and put a handful of hours into it, but yes, Platinum demo was atrocious except for the Iron Golem fight. And that only scratched the surfaces of what the combat system could be. It was quite honestly such a weird demo to release, I'm not sure what their intention was and I think did way more bad than good.

Honestly, even the Iron Golem fight was meh for me. Now for their intention, it's curious... the first time we heard about a second demo was around Jump Festa 14 iirc. Tabata spent a whole year saying it was going to be just a tech showcase for the game, even if combat was going to be part of it.

In the end, it's just a tech demo as originally promised... but when Uncovered happened, S-E decided to promote it as something more substantial. And that's why I think most people expected different things, and it's S-E's fault to hype it that way (as a "full demo", or whatever).

For me, if they really wanted to get people on board, another update for Duscae would work just fine, since it's a lot more representative of the game.

I can't fathom playing Duscae for 30 hours. I was bored after 30 minutes.

Half of that time I was probably trying to glitch it, I admit hahahah.

I feel like threads like this exist purely to kill hype for people like me. I'll say this now and you could quote me on this forever. Final Fantasy 15 will be a return to the greatest this series used to be known for. I have full faith in Tabata and I know he's bringing up the goods.

If we can pick and choose the games in the series then 12 shouldn't count either. Just because 14 is multiplayer doesn't make it count any less then any other game in the series. If a game comes out in the main series and people say "i got a final fantasy experience" then why shouldn't it count other then you not liking a payment model?

This part of your post interest me, and believe me when I say I don't mean to bring down your hype or anything.

I am curious why exactly do you think that. What has Tabata done that gives you hope he can make FF XV a quality game? The only thing I know about Tabata is his work on Type-0, and I felt that game was purely awful.

For me the cons:

-battle system

-art direction

-I don't trust Square

For me the pros:

-seems there'll be more of a proper epic JRPG world map and trappings. That's a big step in modern development.

-a JRPG that is its own thing, instead of being 'another game for the niche otaku consumer.'

I want a mainstream JRPG to do well and give the genre more room to move outside of otaku niches. I also want a showcase of what the games used to be able to accomplish coexisting with modern technology. I'd also like to actually want the game, but I'll be happy if XV accomplishes something, however small, for the genre even if I don't play it in the end.

I'd also just like FF to be back.

...

I mean I don't think high budget games on western-oriented consoles can be the answer for the genre, but nor is PS3/Vita or 3DS in the long term, which are the places I'll probably be playing P5 and DQXI respectively (perhaps NX for the latter?), games I'm actually anticipating buying. I respect what it seems XV is attempting.

Type 0 that we got was a port of a psp game. But as a psp game it was one of the biggest, most interesting titles I've ever seen on the platform. Story was dark
opening alone still gives me chills
, combat was fast and varied, and once you really explored it's systems it had alot of interesting ideas to offer.

That's not the game that sold me though, crisis core hits me harder then almost any other final fantasy game. I could go into every reason I love that game but it's easier for me to put it this way. Years after final fantasy 7 comes out, I never thought a psp prequel would be on the same level for me as the original game.

I'm looking forward to it and will be buying day 1. But I gotta say that I disliked both demos due to the combat. There was a sluggishness to it that I found off putting. I hope the final game ends up being satisfying where it concerns combat systems.

Metacritic prediction of 86.

Honestly, if threads like this get you down your faith seems fragile and easily shaken.

That this will be at the height of FF experiences doesn't strike me as being anywhere near a reasonable expectation. Square Enix' first open-world game built on the failed bones of both Versus XIII and the Luminous engine, directed by the guy that did modern gaming classics The 3rd Birthday and FF Type-0? Ah, yes. Greatness awaits.

Seriously, there's just too much actively working against XV for what you're hoping for to be the reality. If it's good at all, that'll be quite an achievement and people should be at peace with it (spoilers: they won't) because it'll mean SE has won an uphill battle

Of course, this is to say nothing of how the game sells.

I was so hyped that I bought Type-0 HD on day one for 70 CAD for the Duscae demo. Followed every ATR religiously and waited anxiously for the Uncovered event, but the 1-2 punch of Platinum demo and the Microsoft E3 demo really sobered me up.

And then they kept releasing really bad screenshots and weird trailers, and it really tempered the hype for me that I no longer feel the need to get it day one, even though I'm still excited.
I'll just wait to buy it when it's cheaper and performance issues are ironed out.

If the final game could at least give me something like the exploration and open world adventure that Witcher 3 was, then I would be a happy lad.
Doesn't have to be perfect or GOTY material.

Threads like this don't get me down based on my faith of the game. I feel down because of the amount of negative feelings surrounding the game. Like I get it, long development cycle and it's a series that hasn't been good lately (outside of 14). But looking at all the upcoming games, it seems like this one has the most people going "I have a bad feeling about this one" and I just feel it's unfair. Still though, I imagine most of the talk will change once it's actually released.

This game is white hot for me bruh. When they put it in the microwave as Versus XIII, it had the makings of excellence. When someone removed it from the microwave early and rebranded it as XV, it was lukewarm. Not bad, not good. Then this past year they put that shit back in and clocked it up to MAX HEAT. This game will be pure fire.

Every demo and trailer has been awful to middling at best. It certainly doesn't help that world of final Fantasy came out of nowhere and looks far better in every department. I just don't see any scenario where FFXV ends up actually being compelling and worth the wait.

ima get it but im still realllllly worried about the combat system.. i didnt like it at all in the demo..

they need to release a video of max level character and eneimes fighting..? plus the dlc is really making me wanta say meh.. my hype died for this 5 years ago and hasnt really been too excited for it since!

That's just crazy talk.

Lol I love this scenario

Some people are upset a mainline FF has a season pass. Some outright despise season passes, some are afraid SE will offer garbage like endings and some just hate.

yeah the last pass i got was Bio infinite.. didnt even really play the last one released for that game because i was over it...
but it mainly has to do with not knowing what it is. i did buy BBs dlc but only the day it released and knew what i was getting.

1. It's a AAA game in 2016, why wouldn't it have one? I don't think it being FF means anything when it comes to this.

2. Nothing I can really comment there.

3. Why? We know what in the season pass, the expansion pack won't be the ending, will probable be some made up scenario they make up during or after the game.

I care less about this game the more I see of it, with the trailer rebranding Vs. XIII as XV being the last time I was excited for it. At this point, I pretty much just accept that new mainline FF games likely won't appeal to me anymore, and I'm going have to continue going elsewhere for RPGs of actual interest to me.

Going by XIII, it will review exceptionally well regardless of its shortcomings, and will sell tremendously based on its name alone. Simply being an FF game will allow it to coast by on the legacy of past games, regardless of what I think of it.

I don't have much confidence in Square-Enix anymore.

I expect the game to be better than Final Fantasy XIII at the very least. :P

I have no opinion on it as there are no concrete details or info. Those are the reasons I've seen here as to why people are against it. I might've missed some, but most were like that.

Marketing seens to be almost no existant this close to launch. I have faith in Tabata, but no way the game will deliver on the ridiculous level of hype it generated from all these years.

It's not even launch month. Give it until September then you will see a ton of it. Every mainline Final Fantasy game has had a large amount of commercials. It will happen.

That's not happening.

general consensus? seems that the hype took a dive after the the platinum demo. e3 didn't help.

and recent threads showing off gameplay or screenshots follow the same song and dance bouncing back and forth between "IQ LOOKS LIKE SHIT!" and "PC CONFIRMED!"

I'm weirdly optimistic about the game since I think the series more or less bottomed out with fan support on XIII. Its like there's nowhere to go but up. Based on the design choices, it looks like they are employing some of the better things about XIII (the open world a la Pulse) and hopefully the story won't be a complete clusterfuck of nonsense.

I'm only worried about the action style combat, but I'm pretty good about getting used to things like that.

Neither of the three demos convinced me the gameplay is actually going to be good. With the way FF games drop in price so quickly these days, I'll probably pick it up at $30 on Black Friday.

Then you will be disappointed. FF has never had good stories, gaming in general has never had good storys, capable yes but not good certainly not in comparison to other media. Unless you are one of those people that think Suikoden 2,Zero Escape and/or 999 are good stories then you might be in luck.

Bitch whet? The reason Final Fantasy became such a phenomenon was because of its story telling!

Honestly, I'm likely going to spend the next half year with Persona 5, so FFXV isn't getting any of my attention for a long while.

Bitch whet? The reason Final Fantasy became such a phenomenon was because of its story telling!

It was judged against its major contemporaries which were Mario and Zelda where most of the story was in the manual. Nowadays there's more competition and we've smartened up. A lot of things that FF has gotten away with in 2D won't work in HD. I don't think FF stories are excellent but they have very enjoyable characters at times. I will wait and see if FFXV follows through on its setting.
