FIFA 12 - Previews, Updates, Impressions, et cetera

Nope, Xbox Live UK seems to be down at the moment.. joy!

Fuck this shit, I was past 80% too. Come on!

OK, now it's back up but pressing the guide button makes my 360 freeze every time...

Glad they've made the PC game the same as the consoles this time but it uses around 20% of my GPU, wish they could've done more with the graphics but I'll take it over a horrible outdated port.

lol, FIFA killed Xbox Live in EU. Amazing.

So, anyway, the game feels pretty good. The biggest change is the way you defend, I really believe that EA may have fixed pressure whoring. It's not easy to defend, at all. Takes a lot more skill than it ever did, doubt the Barça kids will get the hang of it any time soon.

That skilled dribbling stuff, or whatever, they introduced this year seems more useless than anything, but I haven't had enough time to try it out properly.

Game pace is always slow around here, but it feels much more realistic than last year.

Presentation ain't bad either, they even had little video snippets during arena practice and 3D player models for kit selection. Scoreboards are pretty good too. Menus are also a lot more responsive this time. Good shit.

Commentary is alright. I kinda miss Andy Gray and his Scottish buffoonery.

All in all, good demo. Hyped. Pleased. All that good stuff.

Game doesn't feel smooth for me with vsync on.
I checked with fraps and it runs at 60fps constant but it doesn't seem fluid.
I even tried forcing vsync/triple buffering with radeon pro but no dice...

Runs smoothly with 60fps (1080p, 4xMSAA) on my rig with tripple buffering activated via D3DOverrider v2.0.1.

Echoing sentiments that they could've done better with the graphics for the game, but I will take this over another iteration of shitty PC FIFA.

Still the game runs flawlessly. The menus are fast and slick. Demo is too easy unfortunately, thrashed Milan 4-0 playing as Borussia Dortmund (maybe cause Hummels is a beast), so I'll definitely check out that file that adelante linked.

The defensive changes seem interesting on paper, especially the more dynamic shirt tug/shoulder charge situations. Also going to have to get used to playing this on a 360 controller since I've only ever played the games on Sony's consoles.

All encouraging stuff. Looking forward to playing it after work (assuming XBL is fixed by then).

How long is the demo? What's the content?

Typical stuff, friendly match. They do give you a nice tutorial right off the bat for tactical defending. Not sure about half-length, lol.

Graphics look pretty much the same as Fifa 11 to me, and this is on PC maxed.

The menus are really responsive this time and there are pretty much zero load times. Its over twice a fast getting into a game compared to Fifa 11 on PS3. Not sure if they improved the menu and load times or if its just a perk of playing on PC (probably both).

Did they remove the feature where you need to hit the pass in a specific place in the bar to prevent ping-pong passing? I don't see it in the control settings.

hmmmm...visually they have done nothing imo...shot I just took.

Pace of the game has dropped, first thing I noticed.

you have to use the skilled dribbling at really close range,to let the defender make a mistake

Well, legacy defending is just a controller option, so i'm not sure it's gone.
it's gone from online (there's tactical defending by default),but you can use it on local

The games own v-sync doesn't work. Even at 60fps the game seems to stutter during the match. Looks good and plays good but the stutter and lack of vsync is very annoying.

I like how the players run to get the ball for throw-ins now...nice little touch

Visually, it doesn't look that much better than FIFA 11 did on the PC, I like the new defending, but will take some getting used to.

Hopefully they fix Anfield in the full version

Enable triple buffering in your NVIDIA settings, or D3DOverrider if you're running an ATI and uncheck the vsync option in the settings. It's a little lame to have to do it but I have zero stuttering or tearing issues in my game.

I hear the impact engine has led to some truly awful refereeing decisions. Can anyone comment?
I haven't had any refeering decisions yet, but Subotic did the splits during a Dortmund v Barcelona game, and in another against Milan he did a funny dance in the air and on the ground which led to a free shot (thankfully saved). The collisions and consequential animations remind me of Sumotori.

I don't think the new gameplay really lends itself to 3 minute halfs but it's still nice seeing it flow a bit more like real football.

It's far better at the 6 minute halves setting if you grab the .ini linked earlier in the thread.

I'm playing the 360 demo so can't unfortunately.

Another point, the dribbling is much improved - I just skipped round a couple of players with Silva in a way that would normally be rare/impossible in other FIFA's.

It's either Low, Medium, or High :P

It should be in the settings menu when you load up the demo.

Ah, I was launching the game from the wrong exe!

Sorted it now

Is it only you ATI guys having problems with vsync? seems fine on my old GTX275.

Well didn't take long to get my first goal 11 min in(3 minute halves) with Barrios of all people. I will say though the pass to him was incredible, I like the weight of the ball so far too.

Demo on 360 fails to download. Gets stuck at 99% and then says 'failed to download' as an error. Will have to give it another try when I get in this evening.

The game feels good on PC save for the slight stuttering I experience every now and then. I've got a 6950 so I didn't think it would be an issue but I'm going to have to do some tinkering with the ATI control panel. Seems like it mostly happens when the camera pans (like on a goal kick). I'm kind of disappointed by the graphics because one of the previews I read said the graphics were significantly better looking on PC, however I think it looks pretty similar to FIFA 11 on 360.

I rebooted and re-downloaded (it started from 98%) and it completed. Worth a try!

Defense is gonna be much more fun in this I feel and take some good skill, instead of just mashing down A to charge your opponents.

Like Dancake said, reboot and DL again, started mine back at 98% and took like a minute to finish.

If I create a US Xbox Live account would I be able to download the demo since EU is still down? How would I go about doing that?

This is going to take some getting used to, I'm struggling to score on professional. I did however score my first ever overhead kick in my second match but I wasn't on xbl so I couldn't save it.
