FIFA 11 wasn't that good for sure, but PES flashy icons etc aren't really that great functionally. PES also doesn't have half the game modes that FIFA has to deal with.

You seen FIFA 12's menus and still have the same feeling?
yeah i'd hate to ding EA for having so much UI difficulty with their dozens of half-baked modes

I've got a custom playlist for the menus that's a greatest hits of FIFA songs all the way back to FIFA 97.

I AM HARDCORE

FIFA has actually introduced me to a number of bands. During the PS2 era, that's really the only thing that excited me about the game since the gameplay sucked so bad.

Care to list your playlist?

fifa needs to revamp its entire presentation. they can't even show two players from the same side subbing in, which has been in PES for like six years at least. menus and little details are where fifa fails majorly. and i swear you put a couple nerd interns (the kind of people who work on custom kits and shoes and stadiums and stuff) on that and they could make it amazing.

Haha no shit, the menus haven't been changed for like 4 years or something?!

PS3 FIFA GAFfers, we'll just create a community thread to add each other too. I doubt a proper club will be created this year either, but at least we can have a consistent pool of players for 1v1 matches and maybe tournament play.

All for it. Who is up for it? And will possibly update the OP with Gaffers interested?

Well they changed the frontend a lot.

I still don't like something about it, but it's functionally better than the previous 2 years.

Uggh. I'm located in Toronto Canada. When I played MLB the Show I was always matched up against either the Boston Red Sox or the NY Yankees it seemed every game. I was lucky to see the Orioles or the Rays.

So I should expect powerhouse "star" teams every game?

this year you first choose your team, and then the game put you against a similiar team...so if you take, like,my favorite team, cagliari, you'll go against 3.5 stars teams only.

They said the same thing is gonna be for quitters.the system,in theory, is gonna pair players with similiar disconnection percentage...so hopefully quitters are gonna piss off each other this year....hope all is gonna work as advised.

Yep. I can confirm this.
Already mentioned? Super duper awesome. I will never have to play Barca online. That sounds mighty good.

Well they still haven't fixed the fact that you can pass your way through the midfield in 3-4 passes every single time you get the ball. You'd think the general AI of the CPU defense would be one of their biggest priorities, since it basically makes the game play nothing like real soccer.

That's pretty smart. It will probably improve the quality of games if you like selecting teams that are 4star and below. I use Everton online, and almost every time my opponent picked another 4star or below team like Fulham, the quality of play way significantly higher than the average Real/Barca idiot.

Waiting for the demo.

I've checked out the new screens too and seems like they got a lot more players faces this time around, even for Ligue 1 teams. Glad PSG players won't look like a bunch of generics.

Cansei de Ser Sexy...for the third time??? Wish they had included one of Ladytron's from their upcoming album...or heck, something from Blood Red Shoes or The Kill's would've been great. =)

Said it before, but again you might want to check your own connection, because myself and others have never heard of a host advantages (I played 09-now)

I skipped FIFA 11 so my experience is all about FIFA 10. My D/L is around 3.5 meg, not brilliant but more than enough for XBL. Ping is 25ms, U/L 700k, Xbox is in a DMZ. No other internet activity takes place on my connection when I play online.

The host advantage either works for me (I win easily using lesser teams against much higher-ranked players) or against me, but it's so noticable it's beyond a joke. When it's against me the symptoms are classic: defenders AWOL, tackles missed by yards, most passes intercepted, receivers static, my own players tackling each other, tripping over a lot, even when they make tackles the ball falls directly to the opposition, passes bounce off shins, players run in the opposite direction to the thumbstick for a second when switching to them, light shots balloon over the bar, sprint speed is reduced etc etc etc.
There is no more frustrating experience in videogaming when it is like this, and I'm sure it's why so many players quit. It's absolute torture.

I've had the same symptoms in my favour for days at a time and have been the highest ranked weekly player in the world because of it (seriously), beating players 1500 ranking points ahead of me with ease (I'm ranked 27 atm, I think), skill-moving the ball up and down the pitch and walking it into the net as if the opposition are all Caspers. It's easy wins but not much fun.

On the rare occasions when online games are balanced with both teams getting intelligent, responsive players, FIFA is an absolute joy. The winner will be the best player with no external handicaps. It's such a shame the online experience, for me at least, is such a hit-and-miss affair.

Anyway, the reason for my original post was to ask whether these syptoms were addressed at all in FIFA 11, and whether we can expect any further improvements to the online experience in FIFA 12 (eg dedicated servers instead of peer-to-peer connections)?

Frankly in your particular case, we don't know if there's an answer. As most of us have pointed out, lag does exist but it's always for both parties, hence no such thing for us as a host advantage.

As for dedis, you can forget bout that one. They would have to invest so much on servers, just to support people playing 1v1, so they only do it for heavier modes like clubs where it makes more sense because more people are playing in match.

I agree with Mascot, there are big online issues in Fifa 11. Sometimes you can't lose because your players react twice as fast, and the next game it's your opponent and there's no way you can win. I see exactly what he means, and I played hundreds of games. I play in Europe.

I think it's very hard to make a perfectly fair online game when everything is decided in half a second moves...

Thank you! At least now I know I'm not imagining things..! ;)

Actually, I know this already: the problems I describe are well documented by scores of people on the official EA FIFA forums in an old thread called 'Online Changes' (a misleading title) where people originally thought the game was artificially handicapping players when they reached a certain ranking. The debate was long and winding but the overall conclusion reached was that it was down to one player receiving host advantage, where their game was as speedy and responsive as an offline game yet their opponent 'waded through treacle' (as I christened it).

The problem could have been caused by any combination of factors, but it definitely exists - too many people have experienced it. I'm genuinely jealous of all those who feel they have never had to endure it (as it only seems to affect a certain number of people, while others have no idea what the rest of us are talking about).

i think YMMV applies here... for starters you could actually try FIFA11 yourself. I know that Krispolls and many others keep running into lag issues but who knows, maybe the changes they've made from FIFA10 will affect you differently.

Yeah. On some versions on Fifa, it helped me and I was ranked among the top players in the world (while I didn't deserve that at all, my players were just reacting faster). But when it's against me, I can't win a game anymore. My players look stuck in the glue, they're reacting too slow, and the opponent runs a lot faster.

Maybe it has to do with the way the host is decided...It's not my net connection though, I have a perfect ASDL (and I live near the connection point).

As long as clubs are not problematic at launch (the first month for FIFA11 was a freakin NIGHTMARE for me), I'll probably be busy with that mode and only using exhibition matches to build up my VP before I dedicate some time into CM a couple weeks later.

yep it was really bad. i wonder how many people it put off clubs too (even though clubs still had a pretty good amount of players for many many months). here's hoping they learned from that mistake

Fifa is best played locally. I only play it online if I can't find someone else to play with, with is usually never the case when I'm at Uni. Besides, you miss out on all the banter if you're playing online.

I'll download the PC demo to bask in its glory, but I'll be buying it on 360 as all my friends will be doing the same.

Man, the amount of free gold packs in the Ultimate edition is nuts. I didn't pay a dime and am managing to stomp on some faces with a 3-star 100-chem team in UT11. I don't even know what I'd do with myself with that amount of gold players. Maybe I should do it.

You'd build a 5-star 100-chem team, of course.

Oh, absolutely about YMMV, I'm sure a lot of people aren't even aware of this issue. I wish I was one of them.
No real point in me trying 11 with 12 so close, I'll still take a punt on 12 as I like the sound of all the alleged improvements. I'm just bracing myself for a frustrating (at times) online experience in ranked 1v1s.

Are quitters being punished harsher this time around?

And can someone please point me in the direction of a list of improvements 11-12?
